Finally found the damn part location in the EPC. was looking under the wrong VIN. It's in the Cylinder Head section.

I agree with Dan on this one. Typically speaking, Dorman is solid stuff. But they do re-brand on some of their parts, so you never know. If you see the Dorman wings logo stamped into the part, it's typically going to be a quality part.

 

Tube bumper or cage for bumper? I only ask because I've seen both, but only one it the right choice. I think you know which.

Since it’s fresh on your mind - any tips? Gonna have to do mine at the next oil change.

 

We only have to have one LP light in the rear. But cops like to use one out of two LP lights being out, to pull people over for a fishing expedition. Technically the third brake light on my cap should work, but I've yet to be pulled over for it. I doubt I'll ever wire it. Someone wants to rear end me, the brute force rear will fuck em up. If it does enough damage to the truck, I'll use it as an excuse to bob the bed or go short flatbed. If insurance totals it, I'll take the pay out, buy it back, and swap from full coverage to liability. It's not the daily anyways.

 

I got pulled over for so many ridiculous things back when I had a wooden bumper. One was not having a license plate light. I actually got pulled out of the car in Waco at about 1 AM one time on the way home from college station. And I had peed in an OJ bottle just like in dumb and dumber. They did pull me out of the car, but didn’t drink the pee. I probably got pulled over 8 or 10 times in that thing. And still my only moving violation is on a bicycle…

Regretably I missed it. I had the work the night before Thanksgiving and the night of, I drove to San Antonio, then Hidden Falls the next morning.

But what he taught me was great. Disconnect and zip tie your hoses out of the way when taking apart each side to make it easier for access. After removing the valve covers, make sure to scrape off any remaining sealant carefully and keep it out of the well. Be sure to remove it from the front top and bottom corners as well as removing the half moons and cleaning them of any old sealant, too. Clean the inside of the valve covers since you have it off.

The spark plug tube gaskets seemed to be the biggest pain. Shifty used a flat head screwdriver to pull the tabs up and then flat nose pliers to bend them back. The gaskets will also be hard and very brittle, so removing them is not going to be fun. Use the flat head screwdriver to slowly work them out without scoring the metal walls of the cover. This may just take some time. After installing the new spark plug tube gaskets, use the flat head screwdriver and a hammer to push the tabs back down, but carefully. Use the flat head pliers to make the final press down.

When ready to install the covers back with the new VC gaskets installed, make sure to add FIPG sealant to the half moons and seat it back into their slots. The need to be flush and then add a little bit of the FIPG on the top corners of the half moons. Also add the sealant to the front corners on the base.

Thats an odd year cutoff for the gaskets, i’d expect the vvti stuff to be different, but not all the us engines.
