Needle Bearing Transfer Case Vibration in My 2021 Sequoia

    Hi everyone,

After getting the transfer case oil changed, I just wanted to share my recent experience with my 2021 Toyota Sequoia. After the service, I noticed a familiar issue I previously encountered with my 4Runner: a cyclical vibration when the vehicle is cold.

Initially, I thought the oil change would help improve the performance, but I'm seeing the opposite effect. The vibration is quite noticeable, leading me to wonder if there's a connection between the transfer case oil change and this new issue (Same thing happened with 4 runner). I really thought this was only an issue with the Taco, Fj, and 4 Runner. I wonder if Chevy and Ford also have this issue? Is it a 4x4 issue or a Toyota issue?

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Is this a common problem among fellow Sequoia owners after a transfer case oil change? I'm curious if there's a specific reason behind this or if it's just a coincidence.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!

    Safe travels,
    Xmytruck

Quite common in Toyota front IFS diffs of all gens. ECGS bushing fixes it for most. I did my 2000 FGT front diff. Never had to do my 2019, but many 2.5genners have. Toyota will replace the entire front diff rather than install a new needle bearing. The bushing eliminates the needle bearings as a fail point.

I'm still under warranty but not by much and plus do I really want them replacing whole diff because of one bearing. Why do you think they take that route? Really frustrating I had 4runner before this and it was the one thing I hated about the truck.

If you’re under warranty, let them repair it under warranty. If you don’t want the warranty repair, have the ECGS bushing installed. I did mine in about an hour and a half or so taking my time. Not hard to do, but you need space and tools to do it.

Maybe pull the plug and see if they put enough oil in?

If it’s the front differential needle bearing, it will go away when put into 4wd. Easy test

Strange that it gets worse after a fluid change ….Might be worth doing yourself to ensure the right amount and type of fluid was used . It’s probably the most junior tech in the shop filling it & trying to do the job as fast as they can ….I use the Amsoil 75-90 synthetic gear oil in the squeeze bag makes it pretty easy & mess free.

Sorry for the late reply after weeks driving the truck I find that the weird thing is that it goes away after the truck warms up. I really thinking its the brakes I feel that the passenger side brake is stilling just a little. My last appointment at the dealer they recommend I flush the brake fluid but the fluid was clear so I thought it was an up sell. I will have do the 4x4 test again.
