I don't carry while inside my house; but with that said, I'm never more than a couple of steps away from a firearm if need be.

Same answer as above - in fact I've got FAR more flashlights than firearms, because my son thinks they're neat and keeps 'acquiring' them.

I just whip out something else and they usually leave me alone after, sometimes the police show up, and then it gets weird

I don't carry inside but do know where (as does my wife) all my firearms and flashlights are at all times.

In the rare occurrence there's an unexpected knock at the door Ill check the Ring or go straight to the front bedroom and peak to see who's there. Even then, I rarely open the door for anyone we don't know and let the dogs do their job.

True story, about 15-20 years ago, looked on the front page of the St Paul newspaper and to my suprise I knew the person on it, was a cousin of a friend of mine. He had killed 5 people in two different home invasions. In the first instance he and his partner in crime entered a dwelling through an unlocked door and raped the women and killed her and her two childeren. did the same thing a couple of weeks before this, these killers somehow got inside a dwelling and killed the owner and his mentaly disabled daughter. This piece of trash used to live less than 1/2 mile from me.
If something like this happens to you you had better be prepared because you will have very little time to react. I do carry at home and when I don't I have my Glock close by.
For those who say just move, it is not that easy sometimes to just pack up and move. And these incedents happened to "safe neighbor hoods".

I always open the front door naked, with splitting maul in one blood covered hand and beer in another. So far no accidents with anyone wanting to take my life. Unwanted soliciting also seems to be in decline.

I wouldn't call MSP a safe place to live, quite the opposite. I wouldn't move to a larger metro for all the money in the world. Too many peeps per sqmi increases the chance of crazies. We're all at risk, some just more than others. No right or wrong answer for all, we all gotta make our own way. I'll continue to live in a state people make fun of and would never move to, in a town of less than 25k people (even that a little big for me). We can all spread out a little and keep our sanity. This does not eliminate my risk, but certainly reduces it greatly.

I dont have to worry about many people knocking on my door...even living in town

110lb Dutch Shepherd deters most people from hanging out on the front porch...Heaven forbid they come in my home without me inviting them in

Inside the home...sometimes, but usually due to coming in and out of the home.

On property, yes. I can't make it back to my house, enter, and then grabbing a weapon in any reasonable time. I could have people breaking into the front door while I'm on the back part of the property and wouldn't even know it. Imagine walking into that and not armed?

For me, it's all situational. For every 100k people there are 270 burglaries. I wish my odds for winning the Lottery was even close to this.
Now add rapes (1 in 5 women, 1 in 33 men in their lifetime) and assaults (1.8M year) the numbers start getting real.

Instead of finding excuses or reasons to carry, I would suggest the opposite.

I got a wake up call almost 5 years go now with an attempted home invasion. Lucky I wasn't being complacent or lazy with routine. It could have cost me my life (and my dog), it definitely saved theirs, and hundreds of thousands of dollars. (I might not be retired)

A few weeks ago I went up to see a fellow staff member since we had not seen each other in years. I know that person carries, he knows I do. The topic never came up but you can bet your ass at least one of us had a weapon (it was def this guy). You just never know when enjoying a cup of coffee with a friend can take a u-turn rather quickly.

I have three I like to choose from depending on the situation:

    Deep concealment
    Concealed
    Property and nightstand

Once you get dressed and ready for the day, I see no reason to remove your weapon if IWB is comfortable unless entering no-go zones.

Seems counterintuitive. The guy that carries a gun while home----but opens the door for everyone---is "living in fear" but the guy that doesn't open the door unless he knows who is there, is "not living in fear."

    Strange times.

It has nothing to do with fear... I fear no man.

I simply choose not to interact with people whom I did not invite to my home and are likely there to sell me something.

I learned my lesson the first go around. Now it’s one concealed rape whistle always around my neck, two more right next to the front door just high enough that all the cats don’t get wrapped up in the lanyard, and one more whistle in each room. The downstairs walk in safe is also chocked full of more whistles. Also Albuterol inhaler cartridges loaded up in multiple bandolier belts for when i loose my breath from all the blowing. Me and the guys usually go out once a month to train in the middle of the woods. I can conceal most all my whistles under my Patagonia puffer jacket.

Whistle defense is a great idea.

I personally use a Claymore Mine strapped to my chest as a very visible deterrent to any aggressors that dare come into my house.

I also make my wife wear one also.

Wearing a seat belt is the law.
    Carrying a firearm is not..

A decent 'gun' belt would fix that.
    I like Wilderness belts.
Tactical Belts, Duty Belt, Military Belt, Instructor Belt

I wear this when I carry; jeans, cargo shorts, etc..
    Original Instructor Belt

    I wear this to work.
I don't carry a firearm at work, but I do have to pass through a metal detector when entering and exiting the hub.
I also wear it to concerts and when flying.
    Frequent Flyer Belt

It's odd you ask a question and then want to argue with people that don't do as you do?
Not everyone is as paranoid as you are..

Wearing a seat belt is the law.

Saw that one coming too. I was a regular seatbelt user two years before the law passed. I know several people that never wear it. I have sat by the road and counted up to 50% of drivers not wearing it. Try again.

I asked a question, people replied suggesting I am too fearful. I have defended my reasoning. I've never understood the thinking that an online discussion was "arguing." I guess I have a higher tolerance for disagreement. Further, I don't think I've ever told someone on a gun forum (subforum here) they were "paranoid" when they took steps I did not. Again, higher tolerance for disagreement.

I definitely need a new belt. I have worn a double-the normal-thickness leather belt since about 2014. I may try the We the People Holsters adjustable belt since the waist is changing so rapidly. When I get to where I want to be I plan to buy an Andrews' Leather alligator hide leather belt. Runs around $350.00 IIRC. I had better not let myself go again!

He's massive for sure for the breed...which is partially how we ended up with him

he was purchased in the Netherlands by a lady in Illinois for a protection dog...was trained and certified but got too big for her to handle...so she gave him away to her trainer who had contacts in SC where i am and where my wife was a k9 handler...sooo....we got him for free.99 already trained

    Good job on quoting posts..

Not sure what you meant by 'try again'.
What I stated was fact whether you disagree with it or not.
If you chose to live your life by "50% of the other people break the law" does that make it right?

Do what you want, carry a gun at all times, do or don't wear a seat belt, no one cares..
If you want to, good for you, others don't deem it necessary nor do they live in fear inside their homes.
    It is your personal decision.

    Paranoid?
I'd say you fit definition #2, and that is ok, it is your life to live.
    upload_2025-2-7_13-11-59.png

I wish I had the time to sit on a road and count how many people do and don't wear their seatbelts.
God bless you for having the time for that..
