I've never been a fan of this....well going into the yard yes.....but inside the home? No.

I know of one instructor that does but she's the only one I can think of.

Today that changed. I had to open the front door to talk with a guy and I realized if something went down, I might not be able to get to the "house guns."

I decided to start carrying while in the home. I have to wear a belt anyway as I've lost so much weight I can't keep my pants up, so I just slipped on my thumb break holster with compact .45.

So, do you carry while inside the home?

No. I do have a doorbell camera and would highly recommend one.

I was waiting for just that reply.

I think those require a smartphone. Not getting a smartphone.

I also think the company retains and sells all the video collected. Not interested.

If I had to carry to feel safe in my own house a Ring camera would be the least of my concerns. If they were easily hacked I’m sure we would have seen some great stuff in the tabloids by now.

All that said - you could set up your own cctv system if you were so inclined for not much money.

you have a computer. You can link it to that or get one wired to your tv so it’s live.

follow up question: will you take it with you when you shower? That’s when you’ll be most vulnerable.

Let's extend that line of thought....

"If I have to carry a gun to feel safe in my own community I'd move."

Not so worried about being hacked....more worried about it being sold or shared.

Putting the holster on my belt is definitely cheaper than a closed circuit TV system.

    Anyone else carry at home?

I lost all my firearms in a deep sea boating accident. But if I did I would just have a LCP2 in my pocket as a habit, just like keys, wallet and a little folding knife when I got dressed and not put much thought into it for the rest of the day.

No, I don't carry at home.
Unless I'm expecting someone I don't answer a doorbell ring at the front door.

If someone came into my home that wasn't supposed to be here, they would have my dogs to deal with.

I would not carry in my own home. I should not have to. I do not carry when I go to town. I should not have to. If either of these changes, I will move. I can’t imagine having to walk around my own house armed because I’m afraid I’ll be attacked at a level I need a firearm to defend myself.

Maybe be better to put a small safe near the front door and access the firearm before you open the door when the Girl Scouts come to sell you cookies..:p

If you don't think it can happen to you anywhere then you have a far higher opinion of "society" than I do.

    Yes!!! Everywhere I go!! :)

With me it is not a feeling of being safe it is just a natural thing to do. I wear clothes and I also wear a gun. If it is not on me at home one is readily available.

I live in a somewhat rural area, but within the city limits; its a small community and literally everyone knows everyone. There are a few bad apples, namely due to some inexpensive rentals, but they get run off fairly quick as the landlord doesnt put up w their shit, and if other residents complain, he sends them packing.

There is one individual that likes to get rip roaring drunk the first 3-5 days of the month when his check come in, and he is known to harass women, and has done so to my daughter, wife, and other neighbors, with it becoming physical w me several times....the neighbor has asked me to remove him for her safety while she calls PD. He isnt always around the area as he goes back to the Rez when he runs out of money, but if he is home, I'm on guard, and we all keep an eye on the house.

All that being said, I've got a firearm quickly accessible in my work messenger bag, while in the living room and kitchen, and their are implement around if needed. In the garage, which is detached from the house by 100 feet or so, I have my small 32 H&R snubbie, in case. Again, more rural, so we do have some weird happenings at times, and I've had people trespass. Having that pistol tucked into a back pocket while kindly chatting w folks is a good insurance plan.

If someone knocks, the wife and kids know not to answer until they verify who it is, and if I'm home, I typically run folks off.

I've had one incident of a confused Door Dasher banging on my door at 0100 trying to drop food to the wrong house, but again, thats a rarity. So, no, I dont carry in the house unless there is a fae wind about and the hackles on my neck are up. Otherwise, I've got access within the house.

Any situation where a firearm could increase your odds of survival.

Whatever would make you feel unsafe and need to move. Whatever you feel the need to carry for in the first place, at home or otherwise.

Spraynard is never more than 18" from his G20 at a minimum.

The 429DE anti-tank pistol is of some heft so it may remain in an adjacent room but always on the same floor.

Same. Hope it stays that way for everyone honestly.

It's like insurance though. I'm insured. I don't have insurance because I'm "afraid" that I'm going to be injured or become sick. I have it in case I become sick or injured.

Am I afraid I'm going to get into an accident in when driving my truck down the road? No. Does that mean I shouldn't have insurance on it for the slim chance of an accident? No.

Do I have any fear that someone is going to break into my home? No. Does that mean that I don't have a my firearm(s) ready for an emergency and on me or in reach while at home? Also, no.

We live in a rural area and I bet 90% of the people here have a firearm. I think anybody coming to the area knows that, we have not locked the truck or any vehicles since we have been here. My daughter does say Dad with the bear around you should carry when you go for our forest walk. I just don't like the added weight, but if I start thinking when I hear something in the trees my first thought is bear. But, also have 2-3 dogs with me when out hiking and think the bears don't like the dogs, so far no problem. But, the dogs get together and tree bears at least twice a month. So we have some around for sure!

However I agree with one of the posters above if I had to carry while at home, maybe I need to change neighborhoods.

We must be the chosen ones...
I have guns in fairly quick-access safes all over the house, but I don't feel the need to be carrying one on my person every second of my awake time.
I doubt others that posted here actually do it either...

If we’re going down this road - I assume everyone carries a flashlight too? A gun isn’t much good without light.

I have driven somewhere between 500,000 and 1,000,000 miles and I've never needed a seatbelt.

But I know if I do need it, I won't have time to put it on. That's why I put it on before I start the car.

I do. I carry a Streamlight 2LX. Since I have to wear the belt (Atkins' Diet is working GREAT!) to keep my pants up, I've been wearing it around the house too.

You might want to consider buying pants that fit before you end up somewhere with a broken belt. I can’t believe you’re leaving yourself so unprepared.
