Okay. Didn’t see that on my phone until I zoomed into it. Also from RockAuto. I thought it was a custom shop in TX or something.

I remember when trucks were built to be just work trucks and multiple custom shops down there would take out your uncomfortable seats and put in leather BarcaLoungers or whatever else your heart desired.

Got a car wash today. $8 min for 4 minutes in self-serve! $10 for 5 minutes. That’s double what I normally pay. I need to stay away from Boston.

I saw on fleaBay, someone is selling repop molded carpets for our trucks too. At least for Access Cabs.

I make no claims about this vendor or their product but it looks about right in nature, the bump for the rear underseat pedestal. For someone who wants a new carpet, the buy-in price is somewhat low.

The Tundra was slipping and sliding a bit on the last two snows. The back end wanted to slide around if I was making a tight turn. Now I have a pair of 150lb tractor weights but never got around to putting one in the bed and now I can't get to them until Spring so it was time to improvise - four 40lb bags of horse bedding from Tractor Supply, total cost $30. It'll do. :)

My truck doesn't have ABS. Never came with it. So the two ABS fuses are empty.

Does this mean that I have two spots that I can use for up to 40 amps of power each, that turn on and off with the ignition? If so, that sounds like a great place to provide power for all sorts of stuff.

Edit: or do they have power all the time? That wouldn't be as convenient.

In theory, you can use those for anydamnthing you want. But it requires you popping the fusebox to confirm there's actually wires on the backside. You need ot confirm where your power line is coming in (easy with a voltmeter) so you know where to tap at. You always want to tap on the backside of the fuse. This is a mistake some people make with add-a-fuse, tailing off the wrong side :D

Hmm. Didn't think about the possibility of there not being anything powering those fuse spots.

Yeah, I've seen all kinds of different stuff. I've seen manufacturers leave the slot totally empty so a fuse won't even plug in. I've seen them install an uncrimped spade in the slot so it'll hold a fuse, but there's no wire crimped to it. I've seen them do either of those two on the power delivery side, not the other. Sometimes they just pre-wire everything on both ends but leave the fuse out, as we've established is the case with the fog lights in our trucks.

Without popping the fusebox to get under it, easiest way to find out is to see if there's anything to hold a fuse in there, clearly a terminal or similar. If so, tap a voltmeter/DMM on any posts while holding or clamped to ground on the other end. If it's hot, you know you've got a circuit to work with. If the plug is in the engine bay, you probably won't need to turn the key to ON position. If the circuit/slot is in the integration relay (in dash fusebox), you may be subjected to whatever logic Toyota chose inside the circuits/paths inside the housing of the integration relay.

Hmm. There isn't a plug in the engine bay for the ABS pump. I'll have to put a test light on the slot for the fust next time I'm home.

I got too curious and walked all the way across campus to see if there’s terminals. As far as I can tell, there’s power terminals for both of the ABS fuses. Photo isn’t very good but you can see that they’re there:
    IMG_1589.jpg

There’s also an empty spot with terminals on the integration relay. Any idea if there’s a fuse in this spot on later trucks?
    IMG_1591.jpg

I wasn’t able to test either as I don’t have a test light at school.

Replaced rear view mirror today (of all the minor projects) and ordered LBJ and bolts. Still not driving this new to me truck until I get the LBJ done. It’s been fun working on it while not driving it and the forum is great.

Never needed to replace a rear view mirror before, paid for OEM so it was easy swap and I didn’t have to mess with the windshield or adhesives, etc. Figured buying one expensive mirror in my life isn’t so bad

Not sure. I posted pics on here at one point, I have two empty fuse slots in the dash. I think one was constant power, the other was ACC. I was going to use for my rear view mirror power. But I bailed last minute.

You may want to consider sand. If you ever get stuck in the snow it doubles as a tool to get out. You may wanna add another 40-50 pounds also.

A 4WD Tundra stuck in the snow!? Bite your tongue me lad! Seriously, that 160 was extra, there's more weight in the bed towards the front. I haven't used sand in 68 years of driving.

I know you’ve had your share of snow this year, and even though I haven’t experienced it, I can promise you that a tundra can get stuck in the snow.

Son I've been driving in this stuff for 68 years with all brands of 4WD trucks and doing it in the northeast where we get our share of nasties. Here's my wife's car and if you look at the roof rack that's on the Ford Ranger parked in front. You can have all the big knobby "off-road" tires you want but if you don't have real snow treads designed specifically to drive in snow you will, in fact, get stuck. It's all about tires and technique. Hell just two years ago I pulled a fully loaded UPS truck up the incline onto level road in front of my house with my 4WD 4Runner, the same one I plow with. The tires on the 4Runner are Sumitomo Ice Edge, considered by many to be the best snow tire design in the world. Tires and technique.

    new tripoli snow.jpg

4Runner with plow (back when I had Cooper Discoverer AT3's on it, also good in snow)
    IMG_1616s2.jpg

That pile of snow next to the house was plowed up hill by the 4Runner. By the way, it was 18 inches of snow.

Im not sure where you’re going with this, but I completely agree that snow tires and technique are crucial.

No idea. I’ve just called them “the big fuses”. There’s gotta be a proper term though.

I just looked it up. "J-case" fuses was the most common answer.
