I recently bought my Tundra and a Mazda Cx5. Both times I called the dealership for availability. One time saved me because I was on my way to the one place and the salesman called me and told me the car was just sold. It wasn't a bait and switch as he said there might be some others coming in but he just wanted me to know and save me the 30 mile trip which I greatly appreciated. A few days later a very nice Signature Cx5 came in and he called and asked if I was intrested and guaranteed availability. I went there and he had it right out front ready to go with dealer plates on. Took it home that day. Best experience I've had with a dealership. I guess that's how I think they "prepare" by getting the car ready, unburying it from the lot, detailing. etc

    You're quite welcome.

Don't mind me. I'm just an old guy who doesn't follow any MeTubers. I've never been on Facebooger or Instacrap either. This forum and a Jeep CJ forum is about the extent of my social media. I actually think most social media is a cancer in our society.

I mean no offense to you and your work, though. I'm sure you do a great job

Funny you say that - the “first” third gen is in that large group pic - Toyota sent out a TRD Pro out in April 2022 before the launch.

@TucsonTundra1794 hits some dirt with us now and then as well.

Exceptions exist, but the dealership model is generally awful for the consumer. It’s a game to most dealers to see how much of your money they can get you to sign away. The entire model allegedly started as a way to protect buyers from being taken advantage of by automakers. It is a far cry from that these days.

I have hated every dealership experience I’ve had. I’ve had to call out nonsense every single time. “Nitrogen in tires” for an extra $1000. Changing financing terms from what the salesman and I just shook on before I sign.

Allow people to buy direct. Allow other automakers to adopt the Tesla model. Make dealerships prove their worth.

Not to mention the sleazy games they play with extended warranties.

My dealership charged me over double the fair market price for my 100K/10 year warranty. I didn't realize it until I researched it on this forum. When I threatened to cancel the policy, they matched the fair market price and issued me a check for the difference...with a note from the sales manager basically implying they were doing me a special favor. Right.

My favorite is their” internet dept”. you reply and ask for a deal and they say well come on in and lets talk about it. Lol negating the whole internet experience. The dealerships are complete jokes

The makers like it because it allows them to put the dealers as an insulation layer between them and their filthy swine customers and their unreasonable expectations of bring treated with respect and receiving products that work

Though I spend a lot of time on the ES, I havent dealt with Koons in Easton. My experiences with Koons in NOVA have not been positive, Jeep or Toyota. They sell the most cars, so they arent worried about losing a few customers

its unfortunate, as the reality is hybrids aren't included yet suffer the same failures as the engine/customer that gets a new assembled engine.

I think if the manufacturers had it their way they would sell direct or semi direct, as they would make a lot more money.

Most states have laws that prohibit manufacturers from selling direct to consumer, if those laws were rolled back I think you would see a lot of manufacturers accelerate their direct to consumer plan.

The dealer industry lobbyist are well funded.

The laws go back a long time. If there was no benefit to the robber baron heads of the big automakers they had the money and political clout to kill the laws

It was a effective barrier to competition for many decades. Establishing a nation wide system of dealers in a laborious and expensive task. The foreign companies achieved it. But very few American companies gave it a try

That's not a problem with mine. And it's not the turbo, it's the valve seals. There's a TSB for it. All turbos burn a little oil

My local dealer emailed me about getting this work done. This was a reply I got when I asked how many they have done so far.

    Hello Jakob,

We will have completed 13 or 14 by the end of this month. We do 8 per month. It takes 2 or 3 weeks to get the parts in so let me know about 1 month before you want to get it done and we will get everything ordered. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Low drama and transparent. I wouldn't worry about a replaced motor at all.

First the Gen3 design was going to be a disaster. Then the turbos, oh my god, all the turbos are going to fail. Next all the motors are going to blow up. Recall- it will greatly damage the brand and probably kill the model. Then, the replacement process- good lord, there's no way a lowly dealer can put an engine in.
Meanwhile, the Chicken Little guys are having to cast obscure nets into social media to find thrice removed examples of new failures. The people with actual experience having their motors replaced are by and large coming out with a better product and having a good experience. Inventories are coming down and sales are way up while Toyota just prosecutes a methodical plan. Chicken Little would have made a lousy investment advisor.

Right on cue, whatever master tech did this one didn’t properly secure a cooling hose. But who knows… Michaela probably made the whole thing up.

I'd be demanding motor #2, 2 miles *after* it overheated, blowing smoke the whole way! it's toast, or will be soon. They will blame the owner for not pulling over immediately and causing the damage. Truly sucks.

Does anyone actually scan their gauges anymore? I'm not sure why but I have always scanned my gauges while driving, eyes are always moving, road ahead, side mirrors, rear view mirrors, speed, gauges etc. rinse and repeat.

I know you have nothing at stake! That’s the point we’ve been trying to make about telling us how we should feel about all this. But last time a few of us pointed out that fact, you all doubled down and if I remember correctly, the logic from your side of the isle was something along the lines of we’re (3rd gen) already in this situation but you’re all “potential buyers” so you actually have more at stake. Glad to see you now acknowledge you have nothing at stake. Takes a big man to back-paddle like that.

Show me just one post where I told anyone how they should feel.

    I’ll wait.

Matt you called yourself out. You did your research after the fact. You dealt with a sales team who did their job. They sold a product for the most amount of money they could.
