C'mon jack, just move to Texas already. Depending on the area you'll be living like a king with the lower cost of living. As far as the heat you'll get used to it. I pretty much only run the A/C for the Dale's benefit.

 

Woke up around 4:30, all was well. Then the snow machine started doing its thing.

If you said that twenty years ago, I’d agree with you. If a good opportunity from TX presented itself internally at my work, I may just do that at least temporarily. I’d be somewhere north of the Dallas area I think. I know the work they do down there is a lot more interesting than what I’m doing at the moment.

The coolest stuff internally right now with job opportunities is going on in Iowa, but who wants to live there?

All I ever hear is it’s one of the most boring states to drive through on the Interstate with the only thing to look at are fields of corn as far as the eyes can see.

 

It’s true that there’s a lot of corn… but it can be a really pretty drive. Especially areas towards the northeast corner of the state, it’s super super hilly and the roads are pretty twisty.

Sounds like winter cold is over for a lot of those on this site. Wish that was the case here; gotta wait two months till April.

 

It's just a false spring. Same crap happened in recent years.

 

I genuinely wonder how much of that gets used.

Some of these folks I see driving around with all the crap attached to their vehicle that I'd be shocked if they used more than once a year, if ever, seems so silly. I think the JDM Garage guy mentioned similar in a video recently, and it didn't really jump out at me until he said something.

Audio systems always sound better with a dedicated amp. Period. They always will. If you add in DSP, either separate or integrated, they'll sound even better yet.

That said, rear speakers matter if the surrounds are fried, then they're likely introducing noise you don't want.

Volume issue sounds problematic. Like, something isn't right with your setup. Shouldn't need to get above 15-20 on volume (on a scale of 50) to get good sound. Definitely shouldn't need to hit 40. That's crazy.

 

Spring of deception.

 

I spent the month of January working on the shop to get everything accessible, serviced, setup and ready to use. Today that effort finally kinda hit me, and I'm stoked to work in here.

The month of February I'll be dedicating to developing, prototyping, and fabbing tundra parts. With a side of doing the Sequoia axle swap on @bmf4069 's Ironman.

My YouTube algorithm sent me this video. First time I've seen someone do a valve adjustment on a 2UZ. He found 7 out of 32 valves out of spec at 240k miles. 6 were too large of gap, 1 with too small of a gap.

None of it gets used. The past two, month-long trips I've taken I thought a lot about how I should be mounting gas cans and gear to my roof rack in case I needed it. Ended up mounting nothing, apart from my traction boards, and omg guess what - I did indeed not need any of that crap. However, I gotta say, even having those traction boards up there by themself just made me look a whole 10% cooler. And I love my boards and they get used almost every night I'm out - perfect to level the truck.

 

I wouldn't even worry about it if you're towing like a single axle and a riding mower.
I towed all kinds of stuff with my 99 Tacoma with the same transmission. Never had any issues. Never turned off OD. Oddly these trucks don't have the ECT button, though.

Yup. I recon on the third coast, we'll get another two cold fronts, lasting from a day to a week tops, each. Then real spring for a month, then summer for 6 months.

Plus then you could snag yourself a rust free specimen.

Yeah most of em are 'doing it for the gram.'
Some are doing that too, but actually camping/expo/overlanding. But even those guys probably only use half their gear. A lot of it is for what if situations. Especially if they can't alone. But it's not my money lol. They way I see it is, they are strengthening the offroading industry and the economy. It's the idiots that trash the off-road parks and public lands and trails and campsites that ruin it for everyone and give the rest of us off-roaders a bad name. The IG truck sluts are guilty of vanity and inspiring others. Some of those inspirees will go on to do fucked up shit and ruin it for the rest of us. Some will go on to do awesome shit like learn to wrench and fab and really DIY. That's what I strive for someday. Every wrenching sesh is an opportunity to learn. My issue is I get anxiety about stepping out of my comfort zone without an adult. That's where the community comes in handy and why I always volunteer to help locals. Casey has been an invaluable asset and friend to my builds these last few years. He's my adult

Hell yeah! Beau is way overdue on armor. Y'all going to be ready for the next trip to Merus or T2S. Hell maybe.someday we can get y'all down to one of the 5 or 6 parks in the hill country or Barnwell up near Dallas. There's another one or two up near DFW I think. Nothing worth while around Houston. Just mud parks.

I really admire that dude’s attention to detail and effort that he puts into his work.

But man does that seem like a lot of time and effort to do valve shims on an engine that’s famous for doing 500,000+ miles without changing them. It’s also the first time I’ve seen anyone do a valve job on a 2UZ. There’s no way that thing needed it. You can see how clean the engine is inside too.
