Overhead console swap

Update: I thought compass was working as it read N and I was parked facing North. Then I drove to town today and it never changed. I'll have to go back to the calibration page again

 

Turns out the above issues were due to the fact that someone sold me a Sequoia overhead console and said it was a tundra. They are not the same, at least in the 04-06 series. Then i got one from a tundra (verified model), temp reads while driving but its all over the place and never settles down. And still stuck on “N”, am I getting a bunch of duds?

 

What does pin 2 SI mean?

 

Look at the list of the pins in the right hand side of the pic.

Each one of those numbers corresponds to the array of pins in the connector at the top/center of the pic.

The pin labeled “2” has the description “S.I.” Based on the color of the wire (green, orange stripe) and how that’s used in the dash for the radio for mph, I’d harbor a guess of SPEED INDICATION. i.e. how fast you’re going. But without seeing where that green striped wire goes in the EWD I can’t say for sure. Your 2001 truck won’t have that wire.

Probably it is not easily available but it is on the Combination meter at pin #3 from what I gather.

So on my 2001 tundra it is named SPD


And on the 2004 Sequoia it is SI:

Basically I have a 2004 Sequoia overhead console which I try to put into a 2001 Tundra AC In a way do what this guy did I know it is not easy, plus I don't have the Outside Temp Sensor, but I'll install and connect it when I'll find one at the junk yard
Just keeping myself busy over winter ... ha-ha.
But definitely the Toyota wiring diagrams is very hard to follow. I did stuff on Hondas and there it is very straigh forward, you have the actual connector with pin numbers and a table with what each pin does. Here you have to folow lines and colors and still can't figure out is this your connector or not.

 

I agree the EWD are very hard to follow and often do not reflect some of the weird idiosyncracies. It's part of the reason I've had such a hard time advising people with OEM JBL stereo with how to wire their stuff. Leraning as I go.

Yes, "SPD" = "speed". And I assume "SI" = "speed input" or "speed indication" or similar.

I assume you can tap off the circuit, but the thing to be wary of is, the source of speed calculation is different on the 2000-2004 which, IIRC, have a sensor on the transmission to output the speed signal, where the 5spd 2005-2006 trucks (and maybe 05+ Seq) are getting their speed from a calculation of the ABS sensors, potentially from the ABS ECU. I don't know much about the pre-2005 Seq, but if your OH console is from 2004 or earlier, I assume compatibility potential is much higher!

If you do want to test that theory, I'd get a Posi-tap connector and pierce the green-orange wire with it; feed a leed off that up to the console and see if it reflects speed accurately. You may have a winner.

I'm curious to see what you find.

 

When my sunglass door lost it's spring door function, I found an 04 Sequoia but on hookup the Ambient Temp would not display. All other Tundra functions worked....illumination, garage opener, compass. So down the rabbit hole I went.

While the shorter version of a Sequoia Overhead Console matches the 04-06 Tundra Overhead Console, the electronics are different when it comes to displaying Ambient Temp.

In an 04-06 Tundra, the Ambient Temp Sensor(passenger side grill) is terminated to pin 4 and 5 of overhead and we're good to go.

In a Sequoia(driver side grill) they call it the A/C Ambient Temp Sensor and is fed first into the Integration Control and Panel(HVAC controls) to assist in determining action of the A/C. Then it goes to Combination Meter where it is then out put to the Overhead Console pin 4/5 as the E/MO and RX circuit to be displayed on the Driver Info Center Module(Homelink). The E/MO and RX are the shared inputs that displays the DTE, AVG and INST fuel Consumption and Outside Temp in a Sequoia.

 

Hmm, seems that on my 2001 AC this connector is present and actually connected, but has only 1 wire used.


Says 1005 or 1003 on the label, not sure

 

The pic you are showing from my quote you posted is from an 06 Tundra....owner yodapug at Tundra Solutions, as mentioned in post on page 2 of this thread.

For your 01 AC, that Grn/Wh conductor is part of the ICL connector that is part of the Roof Wire and that conductor goes to your High Mounted Stop Light H10 connector.
