Well I guess this is no different really, than the person that buys a track ready Porsche 992 (911) and never takes it to the track. My Porsche mechanic works independently now out of his garage. He gets paid by people to fly out to them and take their Cars - many brands to the track and record the results. Owner gets an official document showing what their vehicle can do.
At least with the current Truckmania - you can take that Raptor - carry your family. Take it to Home Depot. Will it fit through a drive through or is there a chance of scratching the rims ?

I said this before not sure which thread. My sons friend has an older Raptor. When he came to the remote lake property he had to trim the branches coming in. I had to do the same thing years ago when going from a 4Runner to the Tundra - lol. Now when I take the 4Runner in on the 2 mile trail (one lane logging road) you are tempted to go alot faster, but there are a number of 90 degree turns. you could run into someone going the other way or an animal.

Looks like the tranny on the wife's 2015 TLX she got in 11/2014 is getting ready to shit the bed. Warning lights and slippage. Goes to the dealer Monday for confirmation before we figure next steps. Of course, 2 months after the Goodwill 10 year warranty for known transmission issues expires. I'm kicking myself for not pushing harder to dump it sooner but you know how it goes. "Why are you pushing me into something I'm not ready for, don't pester me just because you drool over whatever's newest and aren't ready yourself."

Getting more and more into the mind frame going forward of getting the 10 year service plan and setting a firm rule of holding vehicles no longer than that. Don't care what they are. Everything is Gradually becoming more disposable in the era of the 15k transmission and 10k engine.

I'm So annoyed right now. She did the "I'm a big girl" thing 3-4 years ago, took it in filthy for an oil change and tried to work a deal to get into an MDX without telling me so she could surprise us pulling into the driveway. She Got so mad about the process she refused to consider it again. If she'd just told me I'd have had it detailed and a few dings pulled and it would have been gone back then for probably twice, maybe 3 times what we'll figure out how to walk away with now if we dump it.

We've talked about all kinds of things on this thread. If a mod who's been here more than a few months with more than 75 messages sees this as a
    Problem they can tell me.

To circle back to topic, she has needled me for going from my 09 Toyota tundra to a Ford but that day I got to go rescue her Honda in my Ford.

I think he’s bragging about the engine being $10k because a tundra engine replacement is 3.5X.

Came across an F150 Hybrid vs Tundra Hybrid discussion, on my Jetboat forum of all places. The GMC diesel also discussed. I thought very interesting comments from one family that happens to own both Hybrids - Ford 150 and Toyota Tundra - below.
    So Sharing

    https://jetboaters.net/threads/ford-f150-hybrid.45494/

"We don't tow anything heavier than a couple 4 wheelers or our 04 lx210 boat , but we happen to own one of each, my f150 ecoboost hybrid and my wife's tundra limited I max hybrid, almost identical powertrains and power numbers , only difference is the toyota if I remember correctly has a little lower gears ,I believe 4.30 compared to the ford's 3.73 . Both fly in sport mode unloaded, both drop to around 14ish mpg pulling the boat, but the tundra can't get better than 19 mpg , the ford gets 26 on the hwy. Both ride great , the tundra feels like a MUCH bigger truck . We had a 2018 tundra v8 that we regularly pulled considerably more weight in horses and trailer than we should've, close to 11k , in the mountains and across Kansas. I don't have enough heavy weight experience with the new suspension tundra to comment on it."

Interesting that they feel the Tundra is a much bigger truck when it's actually smaller inside?

My next door neighbor just bought his first boat and we took my trailer to pick it up. We took his 2025 AT4 with 3.0 duramax. Honestly, I was fan of this drivetrain before towing this kind of weight (a moderate weight for a 1/2 ton). I don't want to give the impression that it struggled, but it certainly didnt seem to pull like my Ecoboost.

I know I do not care about this thread, but I owned a 2018 Ford F150 power Stroke. The smaller 3-liter power Stroke was on offered for a few years before the power boost became available. Its range is phenomenal and its towing plus mileage unsurpassed. It had major use in Land Rovers and England but that motor was built to do a million miles and is perhaps one of the best engines to ever be put into an F150.

Thats his First boat ? hah hah
Yeah - you can't cheat physics and geometry. When you put so much hood in front of the wheels (and I know it was done for cooling and safety reasons - I understand that) but when the engineers did that - they took the Tundra from best in class turning to the worst. Also killed the front approach angle. Nothing feels big more than a huge turning radius. It is what it is. Tundra Sales show people don't give a shit about this. I guess unless you drive in tight areas. Like me - lol. And like my dealer told me in late '22 - a record number of owners are jacking up the Truck with Tires and Suspension because of how low it sits. And then there goes your MPG advantage.

Having owned a 3.0 duramax sierra, a 5.7 tundra and now a raptor I have to say for the driving I do- they have all sufficed and have all been plenty of power.

the duramax got fantastic mpg for a truck, high 20’s around town and the low end grunt was nice. Really only got rid of it cause the 21 market was crazy and I made money after owning for a year but that was a great truck for me.

mind you I don't tow- its time for my opinion.. well I guess besides mpg thats fact

but rating these trucks from ownership I would say:

MPG: Duramax > Raptor > Tundra

Power: Honestly they all feel similar. The 5.7 is such a great NA V8 that it kept up with the other trucks when I got into it. They all feel great on power driving around town or passing on the freeway + they all have plenty of power in the dirt which is what matters most to me.

Driving “Smoothness”: Raptor > Tundra and Duramax are probably tied but not far behind. They are all smooth trucks. I credit this to the linked rear end and live valve shocks.

Fun Factor: same answer as before- I liked them all but the raptor makes me smile a lot more so far.

Offroad: TBD. I put over 30k miles on dirt on my tundra and maybe 10k on the sierra. Both never left me wanting/needing more. Even with out a locker- I could never get the tundra stuck.

I have a 1000 mile offroad trip this weekend through northern AZ/UT and plan on putting the raptor to the test.

    FWIW-
I still plan on buying another tundra to keep in CO. I love those trucks that much. But its gonna be another second gen and a double cab cause 5.7 is goated and I drool over the long bed

okay rant over its time for coffee. Just some thoughts from someone who has owned a lot of trucks and does not tow and mostly offroads

pic of the sierra for fun

I just had a rental 2024 F150 Powerboost, and oddly enough it did seem smaller on the inside. When I drove to the airport in my Tundra, I had two suitcases laying down on the back seat without issue, but the F150 could not have them laying on the back seat and still be able to close the doors. Personally not a fan of the hybrid F150. I don't have the hybrid Tundra, but starting the truck and having it not make a sound felt wrong. Infotainment on the F150 wins by a mile though, Toyota needs to get their stuff together in that department.

Did you try putting the seat up? Those flat floors in the back sure are nice.

Just took our '25 Tundra on a 1,200 mile work trip. It was super comfortable and averaged 18.2 MPG at 80MPH. Really enjoyed it even with the limited seats.

I was so close to going 25’ Tundra because I rode in my buddies limited and really really liked the inside. It felt just as good as my 21’ tundra… except it didn't require reupholstering and seat jackers to do so lol

I don’t have much seat time in a gen 3 but it certainly felt like plenty of power. I love me a simple V8 but turning a nose up at a TTV6 regardless of brand feels so goofy.

If I could afford both- I would consider having the gen 3 tundra alongside the raptor but having an older 2nd gen with the raptor is where I’m maxed out right now.

Both good rides, I have zero brand loyalty, just want what's best for me. I really do like our 25 Tundra and I hated my 22. That being said my 24 Raptor is still my favorite if I had to pick one.

Yea having owned lets see…. Toyota, ford, ram, jeep, GM…. I have no brand loyalty either. I can say with confidence my best dealer experience has been ram/jeep surprisingly. Toyota and ford dealerships make me want to put a knife in my temple.

I love a world where we have options and freedom of choice :)

My best dealership was at Granger when I bought my Tremor, they picked me up at the airport, I signed one document, went down the road. The worst was buying my wifes last two 4Runners in 2021 and 2022. SO. MANY. DEALER. ADD-ONS. I had to play serious hardball with both dealers to get those $2000-2500 "packages" taken off the price. I don't want your pinstripe, anti-chop shop stickers, or oil changes.

But I don't associate either of those experiences with the brands overall.

yea I always have to remind myself that dealership does not equal brand. It’s hard to shake that feeling though.

I was Toyota loyal until my 2022 Tundra got its engine recall. I have had 2024 F150 XLT Black Appearance Pkg, 302a, stickered about $65k, $9k discount and so far it seems to be a much better truck than our Tundra.

Looks like I'll be joining the F150 family.

Placed an order for a 2025 F150 Lariat SuperCrew with the 5.0 V8 + 6.5 f bed thru Granger Ford. We were leaning towards the 2025 Sierra 1500 SLT with the 6.2 and 6.5 foot bed, but GM's engine issues, engine backorders, small gas tank made me lean towards the F150.

    Here's the exact config: https://shop.ford.com/configure/f150/config/summary/Config[|Ford|F-150 F-150|2025|1|1.|501A.W5L..PM7...SS6.96W.54W.53T.CCAB.41H.779.XL7.]?intcmp=vhp-seconNav-fbc

We ended up deciding against the Tundra early on in the process because Toyota doesn't allow you to custom order vehicles and the remote start operation was a non-starter for my SO. We're just not going to end up spending $50+k and not have a vehicle configured exactly the way we want it.

Lariat 501a is probably the best bang for the buck across the lineup at this point. It's about 3k higher than an XLT 303a and 3k lower than a Lariat 502a.

Given it has 4WD Auto and the Lariat interior is a good step up from even the top XLT, that 3k feels like you're getting a good amount for it.

They used to reserve all the good stuff for the 502a, but now I'm not sure the $3k upcharge for that package is worth it.

From a guy who has his 2024 platinum lemon and declared to never buy any Toyota again and spent 2 month on extensive testing all 1/2 ton truck in all higher trims:

Eventually all choices came to F150 or Tundra both in Platinum. All others, Ram, GMS nor Shevy do not hold a candle to those two. It is my opinion, shoot me....

    1. I don't know how you calculate, i went to order f150 platinum, in order to get similar to Tundra 2025 platinum options. I was quoted $84K before tax, reg fee, docs fee and all the BS they shove up at you and they even charge you $180 for tank of gas, some advertisement money(i have to pay for their advertisement???) and still it had less options like no massage seats or HUD/ digital rear view mirror, or air suspension or auto closing tailgate, vented rear seats and some other things.
Ordered Tundra and it is $65K including only $299 doc fee and nothing more before tax and reg fee with all the things with air suspension. At least $20K in savings, i dont know about you, but for me it has some importance.

    2. For me Toyota drives much better

    3. You can order "custom" Toyota, it is not as straight forward as ford, but i did it twice and it is much more flexible. You can order individual options, not only two preset packages where they forced on you one desirable feature with 10 less or not desirable at all.

You can't order a Toyota. Toyota builds what they build and won't build a specific vehicle because a dealer or customer asks for it.

You can have a dealer do an allocation request, but basically that's just waiting for your ideal config to pop up in the queue to request. This could take weeks or months depending on how unusual the config is and how many other dealers are trying to get the same thing.

With a Ford, you can do a factory order (confined to the option/package compatibility in the order guide or online builder) and it's built for you by Ford and shipped to your dealer. I've done this before. You can tell a Ford was a custom order because the window sticker is green and says "Custom Order". Sometimes these appear on dealer lots because a customer backs out after the truck was built.

Agreed - we were initially looking at a Platinum but then leaned towards the Lariat because of the 5.0. The Lariats still have the LED projector headlights which will be nice at night. We just didn't see the need for the 502A package. We're not audiophiles, I don't care for HUD or the mobile office package. If the Platinum was offered in the 5.0 V8, I probably would have considered it.
