If you have a sunroof, it's more than likely a sunroof drain tube that is clogged. It will back up into the vehicle from the lower portion of the A-Pillers into the floorboards or up into the headliner. This or the drain tube has disconnected. It is 99% always this when there is a water leak and there is a sunroof.

If you don't have a sunroof then you can check if it's an aftermarket windshield by looking at the stamp on the lower left or right hand side of your windshield. It'll say "Lexus". If it says anything like "PGW" or any other brand then it's been replaced at some point. This would mean that the urethane was not set properly either missed a section or had an air bubble that caused a void. A glass company (NOT SAFELITE) can remove, reapply the urethane, and set it back in. This is risky, though. The windshield will sometimes break upon removal as they are not designed to be removed.

 

Does anyone have plier recommendations for hard to reach radiator hose clamps? I can't get the last one on to save my life.

I really wish it was the sunroof drains, unfortunately it’s not. I cleaned out the drains really really good when we got the car, in hopes that it was the issue.

The windshield has been replaced before with a really nice insulated Pilkington one, but it must’ve been installed incorrectly because there’s rust bubbling around the edges. It’s definitely going to need to be pulled so I can repair the rust.

I’m just hoping that there’s enough good metal left underneath for me to clean it up, fill any pinholes, and paint. I don’t have access to a welder, or the skills to use one.

Lets just hope that the rust isn't that severe and you can slap on some primer and reinstall the glass.

Although....some Pilkington glass is used as OEM. Care to share a photo of the stamp?

 

I really need something I can buy tomorrow so I can get this done. Car has been down for repairs a week now.

 

I have a tech that welded two scrap pieces of metal to some vice grips.....they work like a dream. If you have a welder and some scrap metal that is.

 

I’m not near the car right now (away at college), but I’ve looked into the OEM manufacturer of the Lexus glass a bit, and the general consensus is that the Lexus models built in North America like the RX and ES get Pilkington glass. Cars made in Japan like the LS and LX get Asahi glass. My mom’s LS430 with the original windshield says AGW (Asahi Glass Works) on it.

I really hope that my glass guy can remove and reinstall the windshield without breaking it. Because it’s one of the higher trim levels, the car has insulated glass to lessen road noise, and that is an expensive ass windshield.

 

You can always verify the region by the first letter/number of your VIN. If it starts with a J, then its manufactured in Japan. If it starts with a number, then its NA built.

 

Crawled around under Donut today to get some part numbers for the o2 sensors, and check my CKS. Took a few pics under there. I need a higher lift jack and taller jack stands. Fuck working on cars w/o a lift. I'm too fat and old.

Looks like I've got an oil leak somewhere. This will be referenced later in the pics. (It's a surprise tool we'll save for later!)


Under side of the procharger. You can kinda see where the oil leak is. But that's the tensioner? Maybe it's behind the timing cover.

And I'm missing a bolt on the drivers side!

Steering shaft. If I make a left turn across traffic with the clutch out in gear it rubs the shaft. (Hehehe)

Looks like I'm leaking oil on the back of the pan, or it's blowing back from the front.


Looks like the diff breather is on the axle tube. Apparently it needs to be lengthened.

So. An interesting thing I just found out. My o2 sensors are called "lambda" sensors. The come off a couple VAG cars. I kinda figured they'd be wideband Haltech sensors or something. It's cool though, $62 vs $150 a piece.


Apparently my bellhousing is explosion proof.


And finally, the piece that @JakeJake recommended I look at for my crank/no start. The CKS. It's behind the AC compressor and covered in oil. I'm kinda wondering if this and the o2s aren't the cause of all my problems, except whatever the dbw codes are.

Yeah, That slave cylinder cant be happy with that much heat either. I remember seeing somebody doing dyno testing with dented headers and the loss is damn near negligible. Id be tempted to to massage some of those areas and put heat shielding on the sensitive bits.

When are we gonna do a hood/fender exit exhaust?
