I’m sure there already a thread on this, I’m just lazy lol…. Post your setup that you’re proud of. I’m trying to see what realistic setups i can pull out of my 1st gen (ones that aren’t crazy instagram/daddy’s money setups)

Plenty of threads, including a whole sub-forum dedicated to members' builds. Takes less than a minute to find the "Let's see your first gen" or "How Big is yours? Measure Up!" stickied in the first gen forum, or to find the sub-forum dedicated to first gen builds. https://www.tundras.com/forums/1st-gen-builds-2000-2006.22/

Plenty of us here are happy to help, but we are not happy to cater to people that are "just lazy lol"

We’ve already showed them off. In that thread, and in this thread I linked to you previously: https://www.tundras.com/threads/lets-see-your-first-gen-photo-thread.21/unread

If we sit here and rehash all the builds in this thread, that leaves us with three threads we need to link up with others “too lazy”. Then the next time, four threads. Better to keep things organized, one for photos, and updated photos, and another for builds.

If you ARE lazy at 17, you probably WERE lazy at 7 and, unless something changes, you probably WILL BE lazy at 27.

It gives off the impression that you have been spoon feed everything so far in life and have become accustomed to it so much that you are now ignorant of what real work is. The reality is, no one has done you any favors by doing that. In fact, they have done you a disservice. This generation of entitlement and instant gratification is now entering the adult world and here in Big Boy territory, where the majority of us have busted our asses for all that we have, we don't take kindly to freeloaders. So, unless you put in some effort to read, search and understand, most of us will just scroll right past your posts and threads. Pony up and do better.

BTW, have you see the section with the builds threads yet? There’s a lot of killer stuff over there to check out. Everything from “budget” builds to “sugar daddy money” builds. Well worth the time for gathering ideas and asking questions on each member’s specific setups.

Suggest you simply consider some good points were made and move past it.

“assholes” will get you no where in the 1st Gen forum but you’ll find a no better place on Gores WWW to deal with problems and yes, we all can be “assholes” from to time….take it with a grain of salt and not have thin skin.

    @MacFixes

We're always excited to get new blood around here. This is the internet. We all need some tough skin. Need the ability when hanging our stuff out there to get called out and get some razzing. Need also for the community here to come together and help when we really need it. You will get all of that here. If you want to mount a clown nose on your truck, we will tell you how silly it looks, not root you on. If you make a post abut seeing awesome rigs, and someone tells you where all the awesome rig threads are and tells you that you're repeating a common newb forum clogging action (what oil do you use? What's the biggest tire I can fit?) then take that information and use it to improve your experience here. If you stay and hang around for a while, these will become your gripes too. You've got a great new-to-you truck, and this is a waaaaaay better resource than any bullshit facepage full of spacer lifts and 12" wide rim "builds".

Stay. Learn. Give the younger enthusiast perspective. Take the razzing from some of the old heads here and earn your stripes. It's OK if someone doesn't like your thread, or your build, or your plans. But it's wise to listen to the advice here, it will save you time, money and headache. Promise.

I nearly spit out my coffee.

@MacFixes stay a while. We really aren't assholes on purpose, but we do have a certain culture around here. Asking to be spoon fed is never going to garner good responses.

There are a ton of life lessons here I wish I would've listened to/heeded from others before going through the pain of having my ass handed to me repeatedly in life.

Nobody is offended. But underlying lesson: If you don't want a response, don't make a statement. As Newton's 3rd law dictates, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Conversation interestingly tends to follow that law, if you put the energy out there, it's going to come back at you in kind. If you don't want an entitled-asshole response, don't put forth entitled-asshole energy.

We want to geek out with you. There are plenty of teens on here who are badasses, put in the effort to 'read first, ask questions later'. @2006 Tundra AC is a great example (his build thread is a great read!). Younger than you, took his inherited truck, came here, read the stuff, asked the questions, and proceded to build a badass rig. Never once did he call someone an "asshole" for pointing him to the information he needed. Never once behaved like an entitled, spoiled little shit. He put in the effort. He read the stuff. He now has a badass truck, and from that, he has an immense amount of respect. Respect he duly earned.

Mind you, I tell you this as someone who was an obnoxious, anti-establishment, entitled little prick in my teen years, many decades ago. I can smell my own kind, though I meant well BITD, I definitely was an out-lashing little shit back then. In light of that, I won't be the one who gives you any slack. But I'd give you the shirt off my back if I knew it'd help, because that's what real men do.

One of the most important and helpful skills you'll ever develop in life: Putting yourself in other people's shoes before you judge or open your mouth to criticize. At least giving it a good try. We have plenty of active adult members on here who are absolutely incapable of that, so you're in "like" company.

Some "other shoe" perspective for you:

This forum has tens of thousands of members, thousands are active daily. I think the count is around 130k members at the time of this post.

I would wager 75% of those members have 0 or less than 10 posts, a huge chunk of those members came here solely with a problem they needed to solve. We've seen, 99% of the time, if someone's first post is a "HELP!" post, you're never going to see them again once their problem is fixed. And the vast majority don't even bother to confirm we helped them fix their problems, saving them hundreds or thousands of $$.

We still help them anyway. We don't turn people away.

The other 25% of people is a mix of enthusiasts needing a good community, but turned off by the disinformation people readily hand out on the Facebook groups, or disappointed by the cesspool behavior on forums like TundraSolutions, or don't want the lack of activity you'll find on TundraTalk, to name a few. They see we have information well-organized in the sticky-post section. You can post something and usually within 30-60 minutes, you've got a reply. There's only one expectation: IF SOMEONE HANDS YOU A LINK, READ IT.

Of that smaller chunk, many are here because they want to build their rig up, and we specifically created all these sticky threads, build subforum, and whatnot so those folks have all the info they need at their fingertips. Some are like you and @2006 Tundra AC, just getting their 1st vehicle and want to jazz it up. Hell, I remember @Sh1tb0x m4nu4l came here looking for stereo advice and wanted a lot of stuff hand-fed to him, he didn't seem to want to listen at first, he probably thought we were dicks also, but he stopped, read what people were writing, and has since been going thru his truck and fixing all kinds of stuff. But IIRC, he also came with a similar attitude, and had to be put in his place. He did what the rest of us learned to do in life: Buck up, acknowledge you're being a dick, change your attitude.

    Bottom line:

When you get handed links to the exact info you need, but you EXPECT people to treat you like a special, precious flower which requires direct hand-feeding of all content, you're going to be met with some vitriol. It's exactly the same here as it is in real-life. When you start your career, and your teammates hand you the info you need to do the job, but you ask questions which are clearly answered in the info they gave you, guess how they're gonna react? See how members above are reacting. Nobody here gets paid to regurgitate information especially for you. You gotta make an effort, kid.

I assure you this: You're going to get misinformation on the Facebook groups because NOBODY on there (less than 1%) ever bother to ask the important questions, like, "what cab type are you", "what audio system did your truck come with", "what year is your truck", "is it 2WD or 4WD"? Instead, they just hand out advice, like, "Oh yeah, this is your problem", when in reality, if you listen, you're going to fuck up your truck. I got so sick of that shit, I had to leave. I watched so many "CONFIDENTLY INCORRECT" answers being posted on there, as one person I saw in those groups liked to put it.

Everything you need to make your truck badass is here. It's in the threads, but some of those threads are packed with info, so it's really easy to miss stuff. Do yourself a favor:
    • Realize you're coming off like an entitled ass; check your attitude.
    • Look back over the replies people have given, check out the links, read up, spend some time on it. We can hand-feed you the answers, but we're not going to because if we do that, you'll miss out on the fundamentals and "why", which are what you'll need to fix things when they break or misbehave in the future.
    • Once you at least read the content to get a basic, birds eye overview or big picture, flip through the "show us your truck" sticky, and the "build threads" and, like I said before: Start making a list. Shape that list into a NEEDS and WANTS.
    • Post the needs/wants list up in a new thread and let's walk through that shit, give you the paths to get there. We can help you break down costs. Once you have a defined budget, we can tell you what options fit that budget, and warn you about the mistakes other people typically make with those upgrades. You also need to budget for someone else to do the labor (which triples the cost of any build), which means making a choice now: Can you do any of the work, do you have tools and a work space? If not, we've got a couple of threads with great starter tool sets and tips.
    • Stage out your build: Most people cannot wait 1-2 years of saving to knock everything out at once. Many make the mistake of doing stupid shit, like tossing in a spacer lift so they can shove new wheels and tires under the truck. Or instead of creating 'build phases' where they tackle one set of things, then go for round two, they cheap out, go buy garbage from Rough Country, and do thousands of dollars in damage. Like one kid who came on here with some Rough Country 3" lift he paired up with a 2" leveling spacer because he wanted a 5" lift, and managed to bend the living shit out of his knuckles, which run north of $800/ea new last I checked, and who knows what else was bent/wrecked.
Hopefully you read this far. If not, I can't personally help you. If you can't stop for a sec and think objectively, "Huh... I read other threads on here and everyone is so helpful and cool ... why in the world are they being such assholes to me?!" then rationalize that ... maybe your attitude and entitlement is the issue, I don't see how in the hell anyone here is supposed to help you build your truck into something badass, because clearly, you don't want to listen. You just want us to be your own personal ChatGPT, and that's not how the world works.

yea i get what you’re saying and i believe my comment on “i’m just lazy lol” was a bit misunderstood as “i don’t care that you guys worked hard on you’re built up threads” which isn’t true at all, i did what you guys call newbie clogging and was just poking fun at how i didn’t understand the organization of the site. and i reacted poorly to one of the comments from black mamba about him going off on my “laziness” which was intended to just poke fun at myself because i felt their response was ill minded and felt like a attempt at a trump card which kind of made my ego flare up. i have the utmost respect for yall and the knowledge you guys have and im aware i still have a lot to learn i just didn’t appreciate the harshness of some of the responses instead of a “ hey just so you know we have a couple like that, we try to prevent clogging if possible” but i apologize for my poor reaction

i’ve got a buddy that pours his liquor out of their bottles into other bottles. He also keeps $20 rocks in his freezer… not sure if i dont understand because i’m cheap, or if i dont understand because i dont drink liquor (much).
