Makes sense. Take care of the issues without a stop sale.

If that's the case, then it's worth pointing out the even more common trend of 3rd Gen owners getting their panties all up in a wad over the mere presence of a 2nd Gen owners, especially if the 2nd Gen owner has a less than stellar opinion of Toyota's handling of this fiasco

They have no duty under law or contract to fix the truck in any certain manner. Long block, short block, sticks and bubble gum… you have zero say. An attorney will tell you the same.

    ya this ^

if my truck goes boom, I would not be thrilled about a short block.

my truck was like the next truck off the line after the recall range, Im March 23, so Im the highest risk of a boom outside the failure recall IMO. That said, in my opinion, you can't live life worrying about shit that hasn't happened yet.

If it goes, I'll deal with it then. I would have to think that over, but likely just let them short block it and then trade it in for a new one.

let's hope that doesn't happen, I really like this thing so far as my 5th tundra.

I think it could be argued that the half-ass short block fix, isn't really a fix, just a band-aid on a bullet hole.

ya, I don't see that. There are no damages assuming your truck is running after the short block fix.

I understand the optics, but there are no damages there.

Thats the thing most people don't understand (not saying you, just in general), just because you don't like something or feel wronged doesn't mean you have any legal recourse.

no matter the situation, in a legal world, you have to have actual damages to have any case at all.

Not getting my panties in a wad. Just pointing out the common trend on this forum. Don’t really give a s*** what you drive! I do agree though, Toyota should just recall all Tundras produced from 2022-2023 rather than just picking and choosing at this point. And for the recall, they should be replacing the entire engine, not just the short block.

Same, but a 2/23 build NOT in the recall. Not thrilled about all of it, but if it goes boom I'll clutch my pearls then. I'm more incensed by the lack of quality control/assurance with window seals, cheap broken plastics and rattles and creaks on a flagship trim model. Oddly enough, my service dept says they see more issues like that in the 1794 than any other trims.

Now that sounds like a rational plan to me, one that I would follow if my May 24 build date truck goes belly up on me.

You'd likely take at least a $20-25K depreciation hit, and you'd still buy another Tundra?

Man, you are a true fan boy. I don't think I could stick with Toyota, if that scenario played out, and I've driven Toyotas most of my life.

I have no idea of the financial implications at that time nor what the dealer or Toyota would do for a trade or deal on a new one, Im not seeing 25K whack in any case

so again, I said I would have to see at that time.

and what are the other options, I test drove a ford and the fucker broke down on the test drive, and the GM seats and ride were fuckin terrible.

I guess maybe consider another Ram hurricane or another tundra, like I said, I don't know

With full size trucks you got 4 options now that Nissan Titan is dead. Just like with real SUVs the options are narrowing.

All the options are close in price, capability and now reliability. So there is no wrong pick just personal preferences

ya, that was another concern when I test the 6.2 AT4 refresh, they just can't seem to get past the lifters (and I trust GM WAY WAY less than toyota to fix the oh shit situations). And at that point toyota had the tundra sorted after the waste gate BS, and I liked it the best easily.

it was a nice looking truck, I did not like the screen position, down low like that, the seats were just god awful and it rode like total shit compared to the tundra and ford, well until the Ford crapped out anyways.

The dealer was nice and said well we can fix it and then do you want to buy it, lol. I was like no thanks man, I just can't do that. it was a platinum powerboost.

ya, I also considered going SUV, I liked the Yukon and the sequoia, except toyota shit the bed with the cargo area, my god is that shit with the elevated floor and dinky area. so I said, hell with it, I can't see myself without a pick up truck anyways so off to the GMC, Ford, and Toyota dealers I went for full testing.

I’m wondering if there will be diminished value on these tundras getting a new engine? If so, Toyota should also pay the difference in diminished value.

    I get that viewpoint, but....

For my money I still trust Toyota to fix shit when shit happens way more than the others. Part of that is my toyota dealer is awesome.

I was damn close to getting the powerboost, I was ready to buy, that was the final test drive for me. I was going to get a platinum powerboost black appearance package in blue loaded up, 7.2 generator etc. but when it took a shit on the test drive and I saw my 16 tundra sitting there, I told the guy,

I just can't go from that (pointing to my 16) to that, the crapped out powerboost I just got out of, I was polite, etc, he said he understood.

ya, I do, I got in trouble with the ford guys for posting it a few times, lol.

the entire thing just went fuckin haywire, it said I was doing 65 when going like 20, then it said I was going like 35, when I was ballin it at like 70. then every warning under the sum came on and it was running a very oddly, kinda rough.

the trans shifted kinda shitty, but Ill chalk that up to a new truck

I think all MFG's are struggling with increasing CAFE, emissions standards, and safety standards. The engineering complexity and precise manufacturing is a task and a half. It was only a few years ago manufacturers were rolling out 10-15 years old designs.

Just have to wait some things out, hope the cycle isn't a spiral. Hang onto some older vehicles, and cautiously move into the newer generations if necessary.

They did some trial runs as early as October 2024. Officially would be in December 2024.

They are pushing to do away with ICE engines more than likely.

it will eventually not be economically feasible to manufacture them, and that’s the idea
