Getting ready for a coolant flush and there is coolant leaking on the right side, there is wetness as well as dried coolant at the bottom. Truck has 96,000, my search didn't net a lot of posts of radiator failures, am I the albatross?

Time for a new one I reckon.

Haven’t seen much about radiators failing in 2.5 gen so it seems you’re a lucky one. My 2017 is still holding with 108k on the odo.

At least you found the issue before dumping $100 of fresh coolant in.

I hit the unlucky lottery !

True, hate to watch a Benjamin run down the road while steam pours out from under the hood, while my wife is asking why it happened. ;)

It’s not an uncommon thing for Tundra rads to leak between the plastic tanks and the aluminum core. Seems to happens more when the coolant starts to become acidic. Yours being a 2019, it’s pretty rare and you usually see them on much older Tundras.

Get well soon. I just went through three weeks of Covid and I’m just getting over it. I’ve never been so sick in my life and I’m still waiting for my strength to come completely back.

Thanks Dave, hope you are 100% soon ! It was a rough few days, on the upswing now. My neighbor replaced the radiator for me, said it was leaking where the plastic meets the aluminum. I was told by someone that Toyota puts a coagulant in their coolant to seal leaks when the hot coolant hits the air, that true ?

Hey John, I’ve never heard that theory from Toyota but it could be true. Toyota super long life coolant tends to clump up in pink lumps with small leaks. Certainly makes finding leaks easier. The rads I’ve changed on Tundras have always been higher mileage older trucks to its pretty uncommon to see a 2019 needing a rad change. Good in that you picked the Toyota rad. Personally I would trust an aftermarket rad.

I asked my neighbor to take pictures, but he didn't, but it's new and that is all that matters. He changed the plugs at my request, they were toast as well, again, I would have like to see them, but he tossed them. He's good, a good neighbor and a friend and cheaper than everyone !
