4Wheel camper, airbags, rear seat delete. thass it.
Our truck sees very few miles in city limits, it is pretty much a camping vehicle. We are often way out in the boonies (UT, AZ, CA, NV, NM) with a slide-in camper beyond cell range and my main concern is the engine blows up when we are out there and we will be SOL. I did get a Garmin InReach with limited texting for satellite comms in a emergency, right after and entirely due to the recall announcement. I wouldn't have gotten it otherwise. That might not help much since most tow companies wouldn't come and get us anyway. Because of this I am seriously thinking of other makes, I realize everything is a crap shoot but I'm looking for something with the least chance of leaving us stuck in the outback.

If you think going and buying a gm lifter bomb or ford electric gremlin machine etc and think you’ll have less chance of a break down I think you’ll be mistaken , just my .02

drive , boost, smile and don’t worry about things that haven’t happened yet.

still a very small % of trucks with actual failures , remember they’ve built like 400k of these things at this maybe more

just looking for clarification on something. You had posted the debris was not resolved until early November 24…and I was hoping that it was a typo and you meant 23, but now you say it was fixed late in MY 24 production run? I’m a late 24…7/24, would I be in the clear? I would thing November 24 would be a MY 25???

Yes, there were a few specimens of this motor that had the same issue in 2018 before it was even introduced to the American market.
That would make more sense with the early ‘24 (built in late ‘23) failures, but holy cow that is a loooooong time.

As someone who spends a lot of time off-grid in some the most remote places in the US, I would definitively trust a GM's baby duramax or a well-maintained ecoboost not to completely fail and leave me stranded, not this 3.4TT that goes at anytime.

For sure by the end of the 2024 model year. It has been said that it may not have been until Early November 2024. Time will tell which turns out to be true.

Sooooo, you’re saying, in a public forum, that Toyota is lying to the NHTSA?

If the documents that you, oops I mean not Ryan shared were for public consumption then you, oops I mean not Ryan would not have been booted from here twice. You, oops I mean not Ryan would not have received ceast and desist orders. You, oops I mean not Ryan then ran off and did it again on FB and Reddit. You, oops I mean not Ryan really, really have a huge ego that you love being stroked. I am sure you, oops I mean not Ryan will even find grammer errors in my post typed from a cellphone. I stand by my statement, what a dick.

    At least he has one.

You, on the other hand, seem to be searching for your Vagisil.

    With all due respect.

Oh no, I have my vagisil quite handy. Really helps with those pesky washboard roads. Thankfully I found the ignore button.

Yep. I mean, sample size of 1 here, but even my 2020 Toyota has glaringly obvious workmanship and supply chain issues compared to our 2014. We’ve replaced a lot of stuff for just a 5 years old truck, most being in the first 2-3 years. It’s like the standard of care at Toyota was lowered during COVID.

This makes me worried. I have my truck having its engine replacement done right now. How far back do you think an engine that was delivered to the dealer in mid January may have been produced? Would the dealer be able to give me this info?

Recall Remedy Engine Assemblies were not being produced until August 2024 at the earliest. They are being assembled on a special line within TMMAL. 150 or so a shift.

I would hope that the new part number, which I understand was April/May of 2024 would have had the debris fixed by then. This was with the new #1 main bearing. You really feel they didn’t resolve everything by then ?

Sooo...if all this speculation about the actual resolve time is accurate, there is another 2 years worth of defective engines out there. To be accurate, that would include all trucks built from Feb 2023 to Nov 2024.

SudoRyan seems pretty confident about his information. If he's correct, this recall is going to get a lot messier.

Based on the information shared with me, it was not resolved back in April/May of 2024. There are a few Late May 2024 Sequoia failures that I know about. There is also a local 2024 Tundra that didn't even make it off the dealer lot before the engine needed to be replaced. Less than 20 miles on it. Believe it was also a Late May 2024 build.

The part number change for the #1 & #4 Main Bearings could simply be an update that was planned and it was caught as quickly as it was because all eyes were on engine failures and any associated part numbers.

@Matt2015Tundra - It is going be quite fascinating to watch this play out considering the continued failures from the 2024 model year, both Tundra & Sequoia.

I wouldn’t be too worried. 3 other guys at my work have 2022-2023 tundras and are not affected by this recall. Again if I’m not mistaken, it’s not EVERY single tundra produced from 2022-2023.

My man just told you all the problem persisted well after the recall date range. So it’s possible every single 3rd gen is affected as far along as 11/2024 build dates.
