The recurring theme is that work ethic, integrity and drive are more important than whether or not one is choosing to take the path through college or not. Those with core these values find ways to succeed no matter the path.

If you can go to college and get a degree, I’d recommend it for you or your kids. My option was Vietnam or go to college. After seeing my friends brothers coming back in the box, was an incentive to stay in school. I was always good with mechanical things rebuilding lawnmower engines for lawn mowers in the 8th grade, figuring how things worked. I had a good math aptitude and was “labeled” bad at English in the 4 th grade, so my easy path was engineering. Got student loans which I paid back. Got a decent job after graduating. I was still curious how things worked thru life, and in my mid 30s with wife and kids went back for a masters. One class at a time, long brutal. Family, work, school was my life. The company I worked for paid for the Masters. It was worth it. It was needed to get to the next pay grade. My criteria for my kids going to college was to finish a 4 year program and get the piece of paper. It shows you can think…. Hopefully. Both kids finished years ago and are on their own, although they both moved home for awhile, but are both doing good. My daughter and son are for sure faster thinking and smarter than me. My aunt said once said “get a degree they can’t take the piece of paper from you”.
For sure you can make money and be happy without a degree. Hustle and energy are needed and a niche industry is needed. Being a lathe operator in the 70s meant you were doing machine operators with CAD programs in 2000, and now it’s also 3D printing. Life is not stable nor constant.

Megadeth's guitar is definitely more technical/difficult to play, but it's never flowed or been as harmonious as Metallica's. They both have their place, but there is a reason one drastically outsells the other. It sounds better.

Ok lets step this back for a minute. The reason Metallica outsells Megadeth is because Metallica has changed their sound to a more mainstream friendly type of music.

I got a degree in process engineering and I've been working in the oil industry as a process engineer for the last ~15 years and been really enjoying it.

My middle brother graduated about 3 years after I did with a degree in electrical engineering, right into the middle of a downturn. It took him almost 2 years to find an engineering job and, in the interim, he couldn't even get a minimum wage retail job because any potential employers knew he'd jump ship as soon as he found an engineering job. He finally found an engineering job about a year and a half after he graduated with a small engineering firm in a small town about 150 miles from where we grew up. He worked there a couple years then decided he hated it, quit and moved back here.

He was jobless for a while then started a job with another small engineering firm in I believe late 2019. Went through the next few years and decided he hated consulting work and he hated working from home. Quit that job and bummed around for a few months, trying to decide if he wanted to get into the trades. He recently started a job as a brewer at a local craft brewery.

I think if he had managed his internships better when he was in university, he might have had better luck finding a job he could excel in. His first internship was with a power transmission company, which he really enjoyed. However, for his next internship, he decided to take a scheduling/project management job with a company building transmission lines. Normally I would applaud trying different things in an internship but the only reason the took that job was because it paid the most. The company was also going through some struggles and ended up down sizing shortly after. I think for his last internship, he worked for an engineering firm but I can't remember for sure

For my internships, I worked in an upstream heavy oil production facility, in an office doing upstream natural gas exploration and production (hated it) and in a refinery. Loved working in the refinery and managed to get a full time job after I finished school out of it.

My youngest brother got a degree in forestry and started a job with a lumber company doing forest management. He has since moved into the sawmill and worked his way up to a job as a maintenance supervisor. It doesn't have anything to do with his degree, but he probably wouldn't have gotten his foot in the door and been given the opportunity to work his way there if he didn't have the paper.

So let's go with the best selling of the pre-black albums because that's what Metallica "fans" call "real" Metallica. Master of Puppets. Certified RIAA platinum 6 times with over 6 million albums sold.

Megadeth's best selling album ever was Countdown to Extinction. Certified RIAA double platinum with 2.5 million copies sold.

Metallica has a broader appeal because they are more harmonious with their music...

and because Mustaine's singing is so bad it actually gave him throat cancer.

I'd like to know if that helps.
As Maverick gets older he barks at EVERYTHING.
There are times I'll give him half a Trazodone, but I don't like giving those to him very often.

    WOW. LOL.

Lets go this way. I don't care about record sales. That again proves my previous post. It's more mainstream.

Take the 188ish songs Metallica has written and the 162ish songs that Megadeth has written and Megadeth still has more, better, songs than Metallica.

    PLUS!!!!!

The best songs that Metallica has......
    GUESS WHAT.
    Were written by Dave.

Good 'ol James can't even physically sing the way he used to on the first 4 albums anymore. Therefore he uses his mediocre voice to try and harmonize. It's awful.

Should I start on Lars now?

I was just playing devil's advocate. I've pretty well fallen out of most music with lyrics, and I've realized the majority of performers are some form of dirt bag or another.

Lots of good discussion here on higher education. I went back and read most of it and I think its pretty well covered. I will keep some of my observations to myself lol....

That said, I hope my kid goes into trades. My wife is very happy and successful as a high school drop out and GED obtainer. I went a different route and have an AA, BS and MS. I also have no college debts, so I went the to the limit I was afforded.

My degree has helped me along the way, and not helped in some places. Ultimately, I am thankful I have them.

Side note, my brother is a dbag and has failed medical something or other multiple times. My other siblings want me to finish the work to get my PHD, just so we can all say I became a Dr. before he could finish his nursing school. Tempting, but to much coin for a good joke.

I'm just putting "better" into a definition.

just because you like it...don't mean everyone does.

    so.....define "better".

FTR - I like Megadeath over Metallica.

the recording quality/techniques are so much better.

We all like what we like.
I like a lot of stuff I know many of y'all wouldn't care for.

My wife hates my alternative music, I don't care for the current pop, pop country, and hip-hop stuff she may listen to.
But we both enjoy quite a few bands and genres and we've seen a lot of shows the last 17 years..

We watched the SNL music show last night and I didn't know who many of the artists were.
But I do know some of them were damn hot...

    lol, that’s a good one!

The calming chews have definitely helped. She’s just a little less edgy. She’s not a barker, more of an instigator.

Also very strong willed, and she overthinks some things. The CBD seems to take the edge off with popping noises and wind events. I really met my match with this dog. Cricket is her name.

The hip formula is helping quite a bit. I can tell she’s more comfortable. I had baby gates in our house for years, and I had finally gotten to the point where I was able to remove them. Now I can see that eventually I may have to put one back so that she can’t attempt to go upstairs on her own. :(
