    Here's a number for you: 102,000

That's the approximate number of 2022-2023 Tundras recalled for potential engine failures PER TOYOTA. What percentage is that you ask? Well, again, PER TOYOTA that's pretty much every non-hybrid Tundra sold during the period in question so let's go ahead and call it 100%. No need to check with YouTubers or social media since TOYOTA put out a press release with that number. Feel free to do your own survey but I'll go with Toyota's assessment.

Toyota’s assessment also said the estimated failure rate was 1% of affected engines. Feel free to do your own survey as well, but I too will go with Toyota’s assessment.

what exactly are we learning the hard way? Our trucks are fine , we aren’t rationalizing anything

simply asking not to shit up every 3rd gen thread with this repetitive 2nd gen banter that’s not even correct most of the times.

take it easy guys , geez

We can talk back and forth all we want in the correct threads , I don’t mind that at all , just not almost every 3rd gen thread

Same. Only a no longer brand new '24.
Still on my original radio volume knob, no seat panel cracks, no wind noise issues, no interior rattles, great ride quality, getting 16-18 in the wintertime with warmups. I could go on.
Plenty of similar examples out there as well. Yes, I know I'm only 12K miles in. Will it continue long term? I am going to find out.

Isn't it a safe assumption that the negatives ALWAYS have and always will get more air time than the positives no matter what is being discussed?

    Back to the train wreck.....

    *edit: 04/29/25*
Replaced my broken O.E. volume knob with aftermarket.
    All other points unchanged.

^ Says the guy posting snarky comments..
BTW, I don't care what you drive, but I do miss your previous avatar..

    They are a touchy bunch..
How dare you say anything negative about their choice of vehicle.:rolleyes:

    @Vito117 do what you like.
I drove a Gen 3 Platinum for a week while the dealership repaired my cam tower leak.
It was nice but not $80K nice.
What is nice is not having a vehicle payment..

If I were to have to buy a Gen 3, I'd go for a Nightshade Limited being I don't care for chrome.
Or an optioned-up SR5 with whatever package provides the color-matched grille, non-fabric seats, and the pano rear view mirror.
1794 has WAY too much chrome and ugly interior.
The Platinum was nice, but I wouldn't pay that much for a truck.
Whatever you purchase, make sure the shut off the fake interior engine noise before you drive it off the lot.

    Good luck to you..

I have to admit, I have not seen that analysis. Is there a Toyota press release, TSB or other internal Toyota doc you can post on that?

Actually, I don't remember that since I didn't start visiting this forum on a regular basis until I purchased my truck in 8/2023.

What I've observed is an inexplicably high number of Gen 2 -2.5 owners who take some perverse pleasure in constantly polluting Gen 3 threads with the same childish "my truck is better than your truck" diatribes. Does the same thing happen in reverse over on the Gen 2 forum? I don't know, but I doubt it.

I also haven't observed many current Gen 3 owners who have said "I regret selling my Gen 2-2.5 to get a Gen 3". I'm sure there are a few, but they aren't compelled to say so on every thread. Is the Gen 3 perfect? No. But neither are the previous Gen Tundras. I enjoyed my 2008 and 2015 Tundras, but they both had their own set of shortcomings.

A platinum can be had for $65k - would that make you rethink? Just curious.
Also if you bought your 2014 new didn’t you have a truck payment? I don’t think this would be the same flex if we were talking mobile phones or computers. New technology is cool.

And btw I like all models of Tundra.

At $54K OTD for a fully loaded 2025 Nightshade Limited 4x4, the Tundra can be had at a tremendous value. Very happy with the change from my 2nd gen Sequoia.

My last truck was a 2017 F-150 3.5L twin turbo Ecoboost with a 10 speed. Currently have a ‘21 SR5 cause my dream was always to own a Tundra. Not a direct comparison, but the 3rd gen non-hybrids have a similar 3.4L twin turbo and 10 speed if I’m not mistaken.

Package goodies aside and just as far as drivetrains go, the twin turbo and 10 speed combo in my F-150 felt sportier/zippier (much as a truck can) to drive than my V8 tundra which feels more stout. I’ve regularly towed my ~16’ steering console boat with both have felt about the same, maybe a slight edge to the F-150/10 speed.

Really I’d just suggest getting in one and test driving, think it’s totally personal preference on driving style/habits in a V8 vs twin turbo V6.

Recently traded my 21 platinum for a 25 limited TRD OR with the 3” TRD lift.

25 is a far superior truck in my opinion.

Not as tried and true I suppose, however the ride quality, steering, acceleration, power far succeed its predecessor regardless of what the 2nd gen lover boys say.

I do feel as if the 2nd gen tows slightly better with the V8. Not a huge deal to me though. 3rd gen still pulls fine.

I don’t think you would be disappointed with the new JBL either.

Mine is standard iforce as I prefer this under rear seat storage.

Again, my opinion having been the owner of 3 2nd gen’s and now 1 3rd gen.

While that's true, had I bought a low mileage Gen 2.5, I wouldn't be here trolling Gen 3 threads and telling everyone what a superior truck it is.

Yeah I was iffy on getting the iForce Max but I’m glad I did. The power this thing has is insane! I’ve got 2 kiddos in car seats. One is forward facing and the other is rear facing, so the under seat storage didn’t really matter as you can’t easily access it with car seats installed.

I have heard the power is nice.

I tote 2 kids around also. One is in a booster though. Easy for me to move his and access below the seat.

Happy to! I purchased from Lithia Toyota in Springfield, OR. Blake, their Sales Manager, was a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend.

I get it. Lots of 3rd genners feel that people are kicking them when they’re down. But this forum, in all sections and subforums, has always had its fair share of ball-busting.

Most non-3rd-gen-owners who make critical comments in the 3rd gen section are making critical comments of Toyota, not of the 3rd gen owners themselves. You gotta not take yourself too seriously around here, no matter what truck you own.

its not kicking anyone while they are down though Terndrerrr, I suspect the irritation stems from what threads and repetitive bashing in threads that have nothing to do with the conflicting viewpoints.

I don't think anything you said is wrong here, and I agree for the most part.

the only thing is, ( and I bet you can understand), it gets old when its in almost every thread, or a lot of threads anyways

I (and dare I say we) have no problem with ball busting, shit talking (within reason and reasonable respectfully as per the flow and mod rules of the forum),

but it sure would be nice if that was limited to a dedicated thread (kinda like the recall thread is now), and not all over the damn place when new members or existing members are just trying to gather information on the gen 3 mods, or opinions from gen 3 owners or information on the truck, and you can almost set your watch to the Gen 2 guys pouring in with the BS that every truck is shit mentality. Just look at this thread, the first 5 out of 7 posts were gen 2 guys when the damn OP was asking for Gen 3 owner opinions.

I don't think thats unreasonable to ask.

that said, like I always have said, been on these types of forums forever and it just doesn't work that way unfortunately, it either gets over moderated or under moderated, here as it related to staying on topic in the gen 3 section is under-moderated. The other side of the coin is they do a great job and its cool how far they let shit go in the dedicated threads allowing the back and forth (within reason).

anyway, enough of my babbling thats meaningless anyways.

take care and see ya around

Honestly, I don't it see it that way. What I see is a lot of "we told you sos" and implications that Gen 3 owners were foolish for buying when they did, like this one.

I also see a lot of these type posts from Gen 2-2.5 owners. As if these problems are consistent on every Gen 3, which they aren't.

I throttled back on the pissing matches between gen owners, but as a life long Toyota owner they really pissed me off when I was looking for a new half ton in '22 and they said we'll only charge you 3-5% ADM. Glad I missed that boat.

Freaking also tired of dealerships torquing my oil filter housing until it smokes then adding a 1/4 turn during 2 year free service.

    $65K, no thank you.

    Your logic is flawed.
    I haven't had a vehicle payment in 6 years.
I have a perfectly wonderful vehicle now.
Why on earth would I want a payment when I already have a great paid-for truck that I love?

There is nothing on a Gen 3 that impresses me more than what I have on my 2014.
I'm not really impressed with 'bells and whistles'.
Your new 'technology' is simply more things that can go wrong.
The Gen 3 offering has already proven that, there are threads started daily on that subject.

In all seriousness, if my 2014 were to be totaled, I'd probably find myself a low-mileage 2020 or 2021 Tundra.
But whatever anyone else spends their money on is fine by me..
