I’m not looking at a new one simply for the MPG. I’ve owned diesels. I don’t need one again.

I think the 3rd Gen is a very nice truck and is a great comfortable highway cruiser. Also tows very well and can do all the truck stuff with ease. We all hope the engine problems are behind us now, but that remains to be seen, although it does feel like it’s slowing down. I can say the engine and transmission combo they set up with these trucks is really nice. I don’t think that gets spoken about enough. I don’t have any experience with recent years higher trim packages though.

It is boring because nothing goes wrong with them, lol. I visit the 3rd gen for the entertainment and see what’s going on with them now. All the engine failures, wind noise, mirrors falling off, poor fit a finish, rear axle howling and seats breaking is rather entertaining (I’m sure I missed a few).

Why is it "funny shit" from the 2.5 side? I traded in a clean 2015 1794, and have no regrets. Despite its problems, the Gen3 is a superior truck in many ways.

I just find the constant snarky comments and shit stirring from the Gen2 crowd childish.

Oh boy , another thread of gen 2 posts muddying up the OPs thread.

the op is asking gen 3 owners opinions on the new truck and trim levels etc, not if he should keep the old one or buy another older gen :annoyed:

there are other threads for the back and forth stuff, keep it there and letr rip

Before I bought my 24, I drove test a pristine 21 TRD pro. That 21 was like a slow big ass elefant. Love my 24.

It's still got a ways to go yet though. We haven't gotten to the "Toyota is too stupid to use 5w30 and Volvo does it better" refrain.

Lol, ya totally , this one is in its infancy , we still also have the defending of off topic posting about the last gen truck yet to come as well.

we already got the “it’s funny and amusing there are problems with some of the new ones comment “. So we should be on our way

we just need one thread named gen 2 vs gen 3 , and then the rest of the threads left the hell alone , get all the crap you want to say out is fine but in one place and not almost every damn thread , it’s not even realistic for the mods to keep up

I have a brand new 2025. No wind noise, interior ride quality along with it being quiet is on point, and my build quality is honestly better than my 2020 tundra sr5 I used to have. I used to be like you, ignorant, until I actually drove one. This gen is far superior in every aspect. Yes, the engine failure does suck and I’m sure the guys going through it aren’t happy at all, but in the big scheme of things, the amount of engines actually affected are very little and Toyota is replacing the whole entire engine. Look at GM and how they’re getting investigated for nearly a million engine failures. You think GM and Ford would do what Toyota’s doing? Hell no.

We need a lane tracking feature that works. It doesn’t work worth a damn on my truck or this forum.
Good for web traffic which is probably why it’s allowed.

Ignorant? Definitely not but I’m not going to purchase a truck that could possibly have an engine failure whether it’s a Toyota or any other manufacturer. There is no denying that the new Tundra was a disaster with many issues. I have no doubt that Toyota will fix all the issues and the reliability will get to “Toyota” level but until then I’m not willing to gamble $70K.

Also about that recall. Toyota is replacing motors on all non hybrid Tundras but what about the hybrid owners? It’s the same engine with the same failure. The only reason they are not doing it is because it’s not considered a safety concern because the hybrid can get of the roadway under electrical power.

Then I guess you'll be stuck with your 2016 indefinitely. News flash, no engine is 100% immune to failures.

My wife's BMW X5 engine seized up at 80K miles. It had been religiously serviced at the BMW dealership its entire life. They wanted over $10K just to diagnose the problem. After months of fighting with them, including getting a lawyer involved, they gave us $1700 and they kept the vehicle.

Anecdotal, I know, but I trust Toyota to treat me fairly more than the rest. Perhaps foolishly...we'll see.

I’ll buy a new Tundra once the issues are sorted out. New Flash, some engines have higher failure rates than others. I’ll continue to use my very reliable 5.7 then gamble on a 3.5.

Again, yes this engine issues sucks for those that are going through it. But the percentage of tundras that are affected by it are very few. I forgot who posted the percentage but it’s very little to how many tundras that have actually been produced. But because it’s a Toyota, people are so quick to talk s*** and put them down. People like you blow it out of proportion to justify why your purchase of your old 2nd gen is better. Drive whatever the f*** makes you happy Just my 2 cents.

…but it’s just not engines. Turbos on early Tundra, drivers side wind noise, rear differentials needing replacing, seat plastics breaking, radio volume knobs, passenger outside mirrors falling off. Sorry but the new Tundra is just not as reliable as the older gen.

Show me the numbers and show me all the reported issues and percentages of tundras affected. Or is it just here and there that you are hearing stories from YouTubers and other social media platforms?

You seem to forget the litany of snarky comments and insults hurled at everyone who WARNED IN ADVANCE not to buy the first year or two of a totally new vehicle design and to be very wary of turbocharged engines. Remember that? You bought the Gen 3's anyway, now you're learning the hard way and trying to rationalize your purchase by denigrating the previous gen trucks - likely the most reliable half ton pickup ever made.
