Hey everyone...new to this forum. A buddy with his own dealership helped me find a 2017 TRD Pro from an auto auction in California. Got an amazing deal on it vs. retail, but obviously was not able to drive it before buying it. The truck is amazing and in almost mint condition for a 2017. The previous own did some mods (some were listed by the auction and some were not). What was not listed was the King Shocks that the previous own put onto the truck. Not a problem, except for the fact the suspension is extremely stiff and rough on the road. My first thought was that they need rebuilt but wanted to see if anyone on here would have any other ideas about how to soften the ride a bit? Would cold temps play a part since the previous owner lived in California and I'm in the midwest? I'm not familiar with aftermarket suspension so this is all new to me. Thanks!

Arent they adjustable? Higher they are set the harder they ride. If you are at 2.5 lift or above, adjust them down to 2 inch lift and it will help.

Also, Im sure you have E load tires, what size and pressure are you running? If pressure is too high, makes truck ride firmer.

use this tool to help you dial in Tire Psi when you have a different tire size or load rating than what comes stock

Thanks for the info. I have messed around with the tire pressure a lot and it hasn't really made a difference. I'm currently at 35 psi which happens to be what the calculator above is recommending for these tires.

Yes, I believe they are by adjusting the spring seat, but from the videos I've seen from suspension experts, that will only adjust the ride height, but not the ride feel. Maybe it's worth a shot, though.

Probably just need rebuilding since they don't look like they're lifted super high. When they get rebuilt you could also get softer valving too.

Mine are a little stiff when super cold out, until they heat up. At least that’s what I notice. I have mine set to about 2.25” of lift and set to the softest.

    Too many mods to come
I’d recommend a rebuild and different valving. Also as mentioned in colder temps they’ll definitely be stiffer until they warm up. People often think they should be softer shocks they’re designed for harder offroading which sometimes turns into slightly stiffer ride on the street
