The next mod is a big 1 too, unless I'm forgetting something. I need a minute to get rack my brain, make sure I didn't forget anything, and put together the list of next bunch. Hopefully u enjoy the commentary, if not too bad, don't read it then. Just trying to let u into the mind of a psychopath lol and help you relate to my thought process of what and why I did each thing. I'm guessing the more feedback for ya the better. I'll pick back up toward the middle to end of next week right where I left off. If not next, very soon I'll be revealing around a $2500 addition for just 1 thing. That and plenty more still to come. I think we're just scratching the surface so far. So catch up, ask away if u got any, and we'll pick it up after a couple days. Try to get along without me, I'm sure it Will be hard for u all, but I'm guessing u will all manage. Lol

I get very distracted easily looking at what I call Tundra porn lol. Just to name a few up next window tint, rain guards, rear sway bar, bed cover, cargo bar, cargo netting, bed lights, interior lights, tail n 3rd tints, bumper, winch, lightbar, d rings shackles, prolink, winch accessories, cab switches, and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting and adding.

Truck looks great Mike. Didn’t know until now that you made the trek down to GSD coatings. Good guys there. My steps have held up well. I think that mod is a must. Otherwise they will rust away fairly quickly.

Yeah I did that fairly early on to protect them. I liked the look of the steps, plus needed them for the boys and ol lady getting in and out. I'm anal like that, all it takes is the 1st sign of any rust and I get on it. It never gets any better from the 1st sign of rust lol. That plus I'm the guy laying down all that salt when it snows and have seen what it does to our work trucks. It literally will eat thru any metal it touches so I figured I would protect them to get my money worth out of them. Plus I already knew the bed cover I was getting and figured it would tie in nicely with that, hint hint. Yeah I'm pretty sure I dealt with Pete from GSD. I think they have 2 there. He was the one with a bunch of tats and think he was running the show there. Good guy. I was excited to drive the new truck so coming from the nj/ny state line border up north all the way south to their location in Monmouth County I welcomed the long trip there and back twice.

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah I didn't even know you did the same, see great minds think alike. Unfortunately for me it was either Monmouth County or North Brunswick I had to drive all the way to being the only 2 places closest to me locations that spray linex. Neither close to me but GSD earned my trust just speaking over the phone plus gave me the best price quote.
I can't wait since we both have the same truck what future mods you come up with. I can't say I'm not hoping this awakens the mod bug in you lol.

The next thing I added was the trd rear sway bar. This is my daily driver first and foremost. Although the truck gets some off-road in, it's more of a dd, get my quad to trails, haul a big heavy trailer loaded with firewood, get through the trails to get to a certain point vehicle. I bought the truck for these reasons which far outweigh using it to exclusively off road. Like I mentioned my quad is to beat up on the trails and ride hard. I didn't spend this much on a truck to beat the hell out of it in the woods. If u did more power to u. But for me, the benefits in daily driving and towing far outweigh the sway bars negatives in off roading. This is a great mod for the money, it makes you feel like your truck is glued to the ground. 20171006_161942.jpg

20170324_165926.jpg Definitely didn't add the trd rear sway bar for the aesthetics, however, the fact that it's red and looks pretty cool didn't hurt my decision on whether to add. Here you can pretty much see it if you stand straight up about 10-15ft behind my truck at it's lifted height. I also had a plan to do a couple red highlights mixed in later on that I'll show later down the road, so the fact the bar comes red to match the factory shocks and rims imo is a nice touch.

The benefits on road for the rear sway are huge. The truck really does handle much better with a simple bar addition, it's kind of amazing a simple metal bar can do so much. It helps in bed bounce, it definitely helps greatly in cornering by eliminating body roll. Going over bumps it slightly stiffened up the suspension giving you a greater feel for the road. The rear sway along with the more heavy duty shackle, steer kit, and bushing replacement I installed from Elkstrom Designs really took the already very nice feel of the billistein shocks and trd pro suspension to make the feel of the trucks handling imo next level. I was a little nervous the feel of the truck would change with the bigger tires and added height from shims and shackle. However by compensating with the 1.25 inch spacer for a wider stance and the above mentioned added components to handle the higher and wider load, I felt these additions were key to kinda counter balance everything and I couldn't be any happier with the end result. I absolutely love the feel and handling of my truck. Imo the truck handles like a dream. I really don't think it can get much better than this. If I had to do it all over again rest assured I wouldn't change a thing with these additions. They all come together like pieces in a puzzle completing a God damn masterpiece imo. Very happy with it all, just in case u can't tell.

20170618_194755.jpg It don't hurt that the red sway bar goes nicely too with the red you can see behind the front tire.

You might also be noticing 2 additions in the most recent pic. One being the pocket style fender flares from Toyota and the other the bed cover, which I'll get into next.
The fender flares I was and am still 50/50 on liking better on or off. It definitely changes the look of the truck. I like being different. I also think it makes the truck look a bit beefier and tougher. However at times I look and think I'd like better the more aggressive stance of the tires sticking out a bit more. This exact reason was the deciding factor. I didn't want to pay all this money and be throwing rocks and sticks down the side of my truck. So I decided to go function over looks. Like I said, I was 50/50 on preferring with or without. At times I look and say I like them making the truck look meaner and tougher while being different. Other times I second guess and feel like I'm taking away from the body line's or feel they take away from the look of the truck. I really go back and forth still on these. However, the function of them prevailed to this point and I keep telling myself I must really get sick of them to take them off, wasting not only the $600 I paid for them, but also to allow dirt, mud, sticks, and rocks to be thrown down the side of my truck destroying the paint. I'm going function over looks on this 1 but if I could do this 1 over I'm not sure I'd buy again. Since I've already paid and had on for while, the benefits of protecting the side has had them prevail in the ongoing on vs off constant battle I have weekly with myself.20170402_142346.jpg

Up next, will be a big 1, the bed cover. I absolutely love it but probably need my head examined for paying so much for it. I'll go into more detail soon on it. Just need a little break but I'll pick right back up on the cover right where I left off. I'll explain the details/benefits/capabilities of it soon with pics. It's a pretty amazing piece of equipment and 1 of my more favorite mods. Shit, for the price it better be. It does come in many configurations and options that affect the price.

I just realized this pic gives away 2 more additions. Damn, everytime I find a pic to show something I don't realize until after that it spoils my chronological order. Oh well, I'm sticking to my format and I'll address them later as in the order I did them. I'm sticking with leaving off on the bed cover and I'll pick up in detail from there, probably end the week with that plus the 2 I already gave away. Damn this is a little harder than I thought it would be. Lol

Been thinking about adding the TRD rear sway as well. Did it affect ride comfort by any chance? I do plan to do some light off roading with it, (beaten path, washboard roads, camp trails...nothing crazy)...wondering if the bar would be bad for it? Have you done off roading with yours w the bar on ...if so how was it?

Hey buddy, yeah the sway bar does affect ride comfort, but only in a positive way only for the better. It greatly improved everything on road. They are not made or really have any benefit for offloading, only negatives. However I do take my truck off road, I'm just not doing anything crazy with it. I haven't noticed any detriment to having off road. My only concern is the very slight loss of clearance when off-road. However, it doesn't sit that low since it's right below rear axle. People like the serious offroaders say it affects articulation on trails. However I have yet to notice, but again I wouldn't consider myself a serious off roader in my tundra, my quad is for that. But I do haul logs out the woods, use the truck to get me places in the woods, i do a decent amount of heavy towing, I take corners fast, and hit bumps going fast on highway. In all those instances I've only found the rear sway to be a great addition. I have yet to come across or notice any area where it's hurt me, except for being concerned about clearance. But imo that's a good thing so I don't smash anything back there anyway. The handling on road far exceeds any hindering this can cause me off road. Again, I use my truck, but I don't beat it up. If the trails aren't wide enough for me to get through without causing pinstripes, I won't take it through. I use my can am outlander to drive like an animal off road in the woods, my tundra is only to get the quad there sometimes and to haul equipment or tow a trailer full of logs ect. I use my truck as a worker, daily driver, and keep it mall crawler status. It does work and get dirty, I'm just quick to clean it and take good care of it afterwards. For me the rear sway and the way you are describing similiar use, I believe would be a great addition to your vehicle. I feel it even helps a little offloading going straight over trails with bumps, it eliminates slot of that bed bounce. Body roll is greatly reduced around turns. For me, I love it and can't believe such a inexpensive piece of metal bar can have so many benefits on road. Just fyi I believe other manufacturers might make quick connect rear sways. If u think or feel like you might be doing more off road than me, this might be nice option for u. For me I keep it on at all times, off road I keep it in back of my mind it's under there on bigger rocks, but again, my truck probably sees about 80 to 20 percent on road vs off. I'll admit it, I love my truck too much to kill it and beat it up off road. However she's more than a pavement princess, just nothing crazy off road. For me great addition, and for how u describe sounding similiar to my use, prob same for u as well. Good luck and hope this helps answer all your questions, anything else feel free as always.

Thanks for the info man. Looks like I'll give it a shot since I plan to do wouldn't come anywhere close to serious off roading. Just like you described, I'll mostly just take slightly faster rides on fire roads or beaten rural roads..etc

You did mention it would affect ride comfort but in a good way...hows so?

On fire roads and rural dirt it will keep your truck back end from feeling like it's gonna bounce off the path. Going around turns with some speed it will feel like your truck is firmly grounded to it. You won't feel like the truck is going to roll over taking a turn.
I think but I'm not positive since I don't do it, that in tight space big rock crawling applications the sway bar would be a big detriment.

That and of course it gives sticks or rocks another place underneath to get caught up on. U would want it high off ground and nothing under there to get hing up on in serious off roading applications. What I do and with the way u describe your plans of use I think at the very least it won't hurt, imo might even help. Try it off road without, then throw it on and try it with. Judge for yourself, worst case you don't like it, can easily remove it and someone will buy it snatching it up from you quickly with a slightly lower price than new. Keep the receipt. Advertise as a week or month ect old. It w ont take long to sell long as you don't bend it up. I'm guessing u won't want or need to take off once u get it on. The benefits far outweigh for my use and sound like they will for u too. I prefer something between a cushy and hard ride. For me the sway bar delivers. U get mote feel for the road without being too much imo.

Np. Good luck with it and I hope u enjoy. Mmm once u get it on and try it a bit. Lmk if u feel same as me or not. What u like or don't. I'm curious if u feel same and feel I gave u accurate description or if u feel different. Keep me posted on it. Curious of ur feedback and if I should continue to accurately describe my thoughts on it or if there's something that others feel different about. With a build thread I'm always asked about products and curious how others feel about same product. Take care.

I need a little help returned from you guys.

Since there's always lot of people and good info in this thread I'll ask here. I'm putting together a plan for front lighting.

The s8 I use as my highbeam so good there. I'm planning to upgrade fogs to led BD squadron sports in amber wide corner, so good there.

Where I'm stuck is in headlights. I'm debating an expensive retro or 18 leds,or something like a headlight revolution GTR led kit. I'm leaning there because Ireally only feel the need to upgrade the lows and it's not crazy expensive. It willclosely match the BD fogs and lightbar in 5500k with HR GTR at 6k.

What do you guys think since I won't be using much highbeam from heads? Does anybody have the GTR kit fromheadlight revolution?
Feel free to pm me with any info.Thanksin advance guys.

    See fine print
Having gone from stock halogens, gen to Philips LED, to 2018 LED's you already know my answer =). 2018 LED assemblies. It may not be as bright as RETROs but they are factory fit, finish and reliability. If you can perform the retro yourself, that will save you lots of money. You are looking at about <$300 in parts to do a retro.
