I understand the point of 401Ks and (mostly) understand the do's and don't's, but I can't lie, seeing the amount of money that is technically mine, that would immediately change my life for the better, but not being able to touch it, is lame lol.

Think of your life in longer terms. 'Immediately' isn't why you invest.

Imagine being 50 or 60 and not having anything in the bank. You will be looking at 70 like it's a very short time away (trust me on that), and worrying about how you're going to get by when all you can rely on is the $2k/mo. Social Security pays.

Plus, there's this - - once a dollar is vested in your 401k, you can draw out a loan on it. And when you pay back the loan, with interest, guess who gets the interest?

If you pay regular attention to investments, maxing out your 401k isn't necessarily your best choice of vehicle; but if you're just going to let your money sit in an index fund, you should be maximizing payments to your 401k. Especially if you get employer matching of any kind.

I was sick over Christmas. It took the usual 10ish days to get back to normal as I didn't get the typical secondary awful sinus infection that hits me when I get sick. I have seen other people battle the same cold/flu for an entire month.

Hoping next weekend is nice weather.

Currently planning to make a drive to Denver next Fri/Sat to pick up the CPU for the PC build. Might also snag an SSD while I'm there.

Ordered the GPU from newegg yesterday, and a beefy power supply from scamazon today. Both should arrive at the warehouse on Wednesday.

It looks good. I think I would switch out the noctua for an Arctic all in one 360 liquid cooler and change the Samsung evo out to Western Digital Black SN850X but that is me being nitpicky. I would also switch out the EVGA powersupply since EVGA has gone out of business. I went with the Corsair HX1500i on my build but I am running a power hog RTX 4090.

I am specifically avoiding liquid cooling. It's just not something I want to mess with.

Can you expound on the "nitpicky" bit about the SSD?

EVGA isn't out of business. They have just left the GPU market by terminating their partnership with Nvidia because of "disrespectful treatment" from Nvidia. They're continuing with other components like power supplies and CPU coolers. *per a quick google recap* IDK enough about it to really argue.

Can you snow country dudes take this shit back? SE NC ain’t built for this nonsense, and the states south of us damn sure ain’t!
Parts of NC are used to dealing with this type of weather, typically the western mountain region. The Outer Banks have seen snow numerous times, but the southern part not so much; it is a rarity. My county govt. shut down all admin and attractions (parks, museums, etc) at noon Tuesday and are supposed to re-open today at 10 am my time. We did not offcially upstaff or recall anyone, but some folks that live out of the area did come in early/stay over a couple of days. Call wise, it was about the same as the previous week, maybe a few more calls for wrecks and alarms going off.

I’m posting from my iPhone as I’m sitting in my car while at the laundromat so apologies in advance if this stuff comes across as semi-retarded.

SSD - you are dropping a crap ton of money on a premium cpu, gpu, motherboard, power supply, 64 gigs of ram and then selecting a value tier ssd in the Samsung Evo. Nothing wrong with it but it’s like putting regular gas in a Ferrari.

Generally speaking the Samsung Pro SSD is the best consumer grade SSD with their latest model being the 990. Samsung had a bad batch of SSD’s both 990’s and 980’s where the drives were degrading at a ridiculous rate. Bare in mind SSD’s have a limited number of read/write cycles before that block of storage gets partitioned off and never used. So over time the drive gets smaller. A typical consumer won’t burn out an SSD but it can happen. Anywho, these bad batches of SSD’s were either failing completely or degrading quickly. Supposedly they came out with a bios revision on the drives to address this but you don’t know if you are getting a defunct drive or not.

Why i would choose the WD SN850x is that while the Pro 990 is the best on the market the SN850x isn’t far behind and you don’t get the premature failure problems you might encounter with the pro.

This is what i meant by nitpicky.

As far as EVGA goes, while they aren’t technically out of business video cards were 95% of their business and they also stopped making high end motherboards and maybe even stopped making all motherboards. They lost a crap ton of talent in their organization and just aren’t the same company. A power supply is something you can easily use over 10 years and multiple builds. If it were me, i would go with a company that hasn’t slashed 95% of their revenue producing product line up.

I know you are against liquid cooling, I just find air coolers to be dust magnets no matter how clean you keep things. I have an Arctic 420 all in one in my computer and it has been amazing. Installation was easy, it is the best all in one on the market, doesn’t have lame rgb lighting making my computer look like a poster for my little pony and was literally only $10 more than your Noctua. The Noctua is the best air tower cooling CPU cooler but I just find air tower coolers take up a lot of space in the case and make having to do any cleaning of dust/adjusting cables or whatnot more of a pain in the ass.

Your build looks great overall and I am using that same ram in my build. Nothing wrong with how it’s specced.

Last note, it’s your money, spend it how you think is best.
