    Lately carry a sig P365.

The wife and I each carry one of these. That gives us 10 shots between the two. .38 special.
J frame, very compact for concealed carry. Always extra rounds in the truck. Obviously we'd have to get to it.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    yes.
which is why open carry makes me cringe.

I have yet to see an open carry with level 1 or level 2 retention.

    Absolutely.

Gel and foam can be easily collected and tossed back at you. I don't know of any agencies that use gel/foam for that reason.

I've read that about gel....can be scraped off the offender's face and thrown at you.

I think the local jail uses gel to cut down on diffusion issues.

*You spray fog/cone or stream and everyone is leaving that room/building. Heard a bailiff deployed it in a local courtroom and when the HVAC system got hold of it, the entire building had to evac. LOL (I'd love to have seen that one).

I keep a few extra rounds in the truck/car but I'm too lazy to run back to the car. Reloads go in a pouch on my belt.

I have carried in a Safariland Level 2 ALS holster (was it Level 1? Had that neat thumb-operated lever to unlock the weapon). However it sits so high on my belt I literally have to lean over to my left to clear the muzzle on the draw. Worked better as a crossdraw.

Most open carry I see is in an Uncle Mike's one-size-fits-all holster or a thigh holster for 1911's. Most open carry I do is in a Mitch Rosen thumbreak.

Next summer hope to have an Andrews Leather McDaniel II crossdraw with thumbreak, I paid for it last spring, should be done by then! LOL A crossdraw overcomes me having to lean over to draw, allowing me to carry a full-sized tool. Crossdraw will be a slower draw but should allow me to protect it easer from a snatch attack.

I like open carry in summer when I am working. Going out on the town though, I generally conceal carry. Winter? Conceal carry.

The bolt cutters are large due to their ability to be used as a weapon and the size of lock & chain outside the nearest exit of my room. The kiddos and staff have asked me numerous times if I'm going home when they see me in the hall wearing the backpack. I just say no and that all of my stuff needed to work with students is in the pack (which it is).

I kept my items in a backpack when I was a public warden (school teacher).

Good on you for carrying the pepper spray. In a normal and sensible world, every teacher would have the right to carry a pistol and the principal would be required to be armed.

I get that but if they have that in their face and are able to pull off that maneuver, your probably in alot of trouble anyway.

Wind is probably way more likely to be a problem versus a ninja skilled mugger who is immune to spray and has amazing accuracy.

Nah. It is my belief most people that need the "hot sauce" have been sprayed with it before, i.e. they have been arrested before. They have done time and thus, have experience.

I have been told just the act of having pepper spray on one's person, looks good to a grand jury. It shows the self defender wants a less lethal option.

I told the wife, as I tell anyone I talk with about pepper spray, "be mindful of the wind, you may need to reposition to make the wind work for you as the situation develops."

Question for the LEO's on this forum: during an escalating encounter....if the victim moves to one side or the other, will the aggressor tend to move also to maintain a face-to-face orientation?

I used to buy the gel only as well thinking it was the better option. A couple years ago my family disposed of all gel spray. Why you ask?

A good lifetime friend actually uses spray his whole career in federal law enforcement and advised us to only use aerosol spray due to the fact his agency does not use gel for the reason I gave. Good enough for the FBI regulations...good enough for me. We were actually talking on the phone about this thread when I replied to you earlier and discussed this in detail. I'm not so ignorant as to learn new/better techniques from people in the field that use it all the time. This is just advice from people that have a buttload of experience with it.

Shooting spray/foam/gel in a perfect situation at a paper plate (or whatever stationary target) is great. Now try to do it in distress and most likely not from afar. Half the time you will not actually effectively hit your target in the face (kinda why when in a defensive situation...probably shouldn't be going for headshots only) due to your shock and adrenaline kicking in high gear. This is when it can be used against you or if it becomes a ground fight.

I'm sure most of you people have been in paintball or airsoft events. I will say that is some good training there. You find out how quickly shit goes south when shit is flying past your body. This is when you are expecting it. Now imagine how little time you have when you are not expecting it and turns into a life or death situation. Food for thought.

I always thought it would be cool to be running a course with live ammo, have moving contact targets with something non-lethal shooting back at you from a different position at times to throw you off. I'm sure that would be stupid expensive robotics and God forbid it a round damaged the guns or targeting system.

I used to work in a regional jail, and I remember at least 2 inmates who could shrug off the pepper spray the CO's used. Both were really stupid, like a few IQ points above disabled level, but mean as hell and the spray had almost no effect on them. I'm not saying its ineffective, 99.9% of people are totally messed up by it, but they are out there.

I saw a documentary about this.....it was called "Starship Troopers" and it was the conclusion to advanced infantry training at the beginning of the movie. Trooper got zapped, Squad Leader Rico took off a trooper's helmet to adjust it, another trooper got zapped, shot the first trooper in the head. Rico nearly quit over it.

Active Self Protection of Youtube fame calls the effect of being shot at "FIBSA Factor" for "Fudge! I'm Being Shot At" and how people tend to duck, dodge, hide, run off, etc. when the other party shoots in their general direction.

I've been told those dye rounds for Force-on-Force are the best for training but the last admin. banned those for non king's men.

I've read the percentage of the population not affected by pepper spray to be 10%.

You spray that guy----the two prisoners you mentioned above---you better be ready to shoot him because if he was going to mess you up before, he's really going to kill you now. You touched him/resisted him and you don't get to do that! He does that to you, you don't do that to him.

You are not joking. The first time I played in CA I just wore coveralls and required gear... "I'm a bad ass.....SHIT...THAT HURTS!!!"

I looked like someone hit me with a club with 1/2" dowels poking out of it. The belly button area is not good.

I actually like airsoft a bit more. You don't have the mess at least and better weapons.

I remember one night we were doing a night rock crawling (jeeping) trip and some jackasses decided it was a great idea to pelt us with semi frozen paintballs. Now that flippen hurts and without gear can be dangerous.

We warned them to stop. They didn't. They eventually did all of a sudden.

    What a great movie.

ASP is a really good channel to watch and see how things go down.

Don't get me wrong, gel or aerosol defensive spray is better than nothing for sure, I just like learning from other people's vast knowledge on the subject. I'm not right or wrong.

Today I was about to purchase a couple triggers for my "go to" Glocks and someone that I trust with more forgotten knowledge about guns than I directed me in a different way. Hell, I will probably dump my Glocks if I end up running the 2011 style weapon (SA Platypus) to keep just one style gun. Well, I'm not sure I could let my 19x/17 go, and the platypus uses G-17 mags...which I have an abundance of.

I carry a can of bear spray in the back flap of the front passenger seat in case I run across any protesters blocking my way. :D That counts as pepper spray doesn't it? Unfortunately I never run across any protesters. You can't bring out the guns on idiots that have their hands glued to the road.

That's why. It just looks weird. I know of 'cocked and locked' but all of my pistols are double-action, single-action so no need to ever cock them. For those that aren't familiar with them, with DA/SA there is no need to mess with a safety. Just keep the weapon chambered with a round. First pull on the trigger (around 15# pull force) cocks and fires it. Subsequent pulls are semi auto with about 7# pull force. It has a de-cocker if you don't want to empty the magazine. I have never owned a pistol with a safety. DA/SA pistols are just as safe with a slightly better reaction time depending on how you shoot. Even my snub nose S&W 38 spcl is pre-safety. But I don't carry that. If I carried that weapon I would get S&W to retro fit it with a safety.

That frozen paintball stuff is just messed up.

Bear spray is amazing. It actually works well on bears too.

I would be lying to you if I said there are no cans available in my household. Now we have to deal with wolves being released in CO...so that will be sporty in a couple years.

That first time they chronograph'd 300 fps. Those paint balls were moving.

The frozen paintballs were pretty messed up. The trail is slow going and in a ravine..so they had the advantage of being elevated. Someone in the group rattled off a few 9mm rounds in the direction the paintballs were coming from. That ended the incoming paintballs rather quickly.

I am not sure I'd use something marked for a large animal like bears on people.....what is the MC (major capsaicinoid) percent on your bear spray?

I have a large, think "riot police" sized can of Fox Labs' "5 point 3" fogger can. It's MC is 2 percent and it's marked for people......

I haven't practiced with it, something I need to do, I bought it for the same reason the member above bought his bear spray.
