Cold front causing issues!

Here in Wyoming temps got in the negatives the past few days and I ran into some frustrating issues. For one; I have a diamondback hard cover for my bed(which is awesome) went to open my tailgate and its stuck, it makes a actuating sound but will not open. Luckily i could fit the large box I had in the back seat otherwise I would have been screwed. Second the remote start through the app will not work, just says command failed. Don't get me wrong I love my truck, just feel like all the extra gadgets dont like the cold, makes me kinda miss my 2011 Tacoma. Do you guys share these similar issues?

 

We are having a brutal cold month here, 2 snowstorms in the last week, single digit temps now and not going above freezing until maybe Saturday. The mechanisms in my BSM retracting side mirrors are full of ice and the mirrors are jammed... at least I got them open. Also, all my parking assist sensors are iced over. No problems with remote start or getting my manual tailgate open (I have Toyota folding bed cover) and otherwise all good.

 

Get some silicone based spray vehicle polish or a spray dry lube. Put some on a rag and wipe the rubber seals on your Diamondback. While you’re at it, do the door seals.. that’s what I do.

 

I have the factory tonneau cover and the tailgate is frozen shut, of course with the snowbrush inside the bed.

 

On the topic of silicone spray, they make a "deicer" for locks, which I've had to use and probably would do a nice job of getting that tailgate down. Wouldn't want to spray either product all over my mirrors though.

LOL... today my tailgate is frozen shut to the factory tonneau cover. I was trying to get my snow shovel out to clean a path on my deck to refill the bird feeder. Maybe later today.

 

Or tomorrow, supposed to sunny at least. I’ve got a bunch of tile sitting in the back of mine, also frozen shut. Was going to unload it tomorrow.

 

Also experienced tailgate frozen shut issue. Also with factory tonneau. Couldn’t open.

 

These are the days the birds need fed the most God bless you for helping them. Once they are used to a feeder they become dependent in harsh weather when food is scarce.

 

I'm not sure if its a freezing cold/ice issue or not but I started getting an alert popping up and the camera would switch to the bed camera momentarily. The alert on the dash would just flash and go away I could only make out the part that would ask you to mute it. So wondering if there is some sensor acting up from ice/snow on it or in the bed? The the alert would go away immediately and the cam would switch back to the normal media screen. Haven't driven the truck in a couple days to see if its going to happen multiple times in a row.

 

The front camera lens needs cleaning, that's all.

 

new tech only likes nice weather lol, as if I'm going to stop to clean the sensor every 30 minutes in 10 degree weather...is there a way to disable the warning at least until next restart?

It's 10° here in Ky. I do have a heated and air conditioned garage, as a matter of fact, my Tundra has been sitting in the garage for 3 weeks since we got snow. Still showing only 1500 miles. Luckily I have other vehicles to drive in this mess. It's just so damn cold it really really sucks!!!

 

I don't even have the garage, let alone the heat!

 

I'm an old guy from Minnesota (17 below this AM in Minneapolis area) so I thought this thread was about one of these....... (we called them winter fronts but guys older than me also called them cold fronts)

@VCheng would this be the forward looking camera on the grill correct? Or is it another one? If this is all it is that is super helpful. Its been zero degrees here so i've been unable to wash the truck.

I'm outside the heat island of the Cities and saw -20 this morning. Still -15 at the moment.

We haven't had enough precip this winter to cause any issues for me, but the cold by itself hasn't been a problem at all.
I did have the power mirrors freeze once last winter though with some freezing rain.

Also, never colder than 45 degrees (usually 50) in my attached, heated garage.

 

It very likely is, but cleaning the other lenses can only help: one under each sideview mirror and one in the tailgate handle, plus of course the one in the front center of the grill.

 

Yes cold makes stuff not work as well. And the more stuff you got more can go wrong,

This. WD40 works great for this, do the wiper blades too while you are at it.

 

This was my first thought, as well. Seems to be a surprising number of guys driving $70K trucks with no garage to park them in.

Just kidding...mostly.

 

Slide your credit card between the tonneau and the tailgate. Should open then.

-40C here the last few days. Trucks been great while plugged in for a couple hours in the morning. Been meaning to check if the factory grill shutters are closed while its this cold.

 

I had a 2009 Acura RDX that hated cold weather, took forever to warm up and the electronics hated the cold and wouldn't work or respond in the first 5 or so minutes.

 

I live in south Texas and the temp got all the way down to 30 last night. I broke out the emergency bourbon and have been monitoring the truck outside from the window. Seems okay but much too cold to go outside and check on it.
