Have you seen the oil analysis on the 3.4TT thread? Just compared my own analysis to the 5.7s I could find and they are basically identical except for the 2 ppm silver which have been speculated but not confirmed to be related to failure. My truck is part of the recall btw. So if you’re basing your argument for the longevity of the motor on an oil analysis, why does it prove the 5.7 superiority if the results are the same?

Moreover, I am basing it on the number of 5.7s that actually fail. The small handful that I've seen have always been neglect.

Now that 3.4TT on the other hand, hey at least it adds some excitement and spontaneity to your life, some with Turbo lag, some without. Some make it to 100k miles, some to only 40, some shit the bed before making it home from the dealership. Heck, some even do it twice, one even 3 times. Hopefully Toyota is making improvements, but it will never be a trustworthy engine. That's just not something I'm interested in from any of my vehicles.

What about the camshaft failures. Or the broken valve spring failures.

Definitely the best I’ve seen in a 3rd gen.
    :fistbump:

Interesting you have such a great result with a low moly oil considering Toyota started bumping moly in the factory fill once the problems started to surface.

I think there were like 36 camshaft failures. All very early low mileage.

The valve spring gamble is real - but I think I’ve seen around 10 during my time here. A few survived - a few ate the valve.

Much more likely to need to tear the intake apart for a coolant valley leak.

my 2010 was trouble free, my 2016 had a few issues

fuel pump and ecu took a shit, pulley screaming for a bit in cold weather, all were fixed under warranty or extended warranty

the ge 2 and 2.5 are awesome reliable, but not always perfect, nothing is.

If we compare the universal averages for these engines in the far right column, those aren’t too far apart either. Instead of focusing on our two individual results, maybe tell me why the 5.7 is superior based on those?

I understand your desire to keep the discussion to the numbers on the far right - but the story of the V35 isn’t the universal averages - it’s the number of reports we see that are no where close to those.

In other words the 3UR is consistent - it is very unlikely to see reports that are a spike from those far right averages.

Are there a bunch of really good V35 oil reports? You bet. That is what make these ones so troubling and they pop up way more than they should IMO. These were all posted in the same thread of this forum - I didn’t go scouring the internet for the worst reports that aren’t a break-in oil dump.

Your premise here is simply untrue and I think we both know it. You seem like an intelligent guy that knows a lot more about engines than I do so I have to assume you did it on purpose to fit your narrative.

Our individual analysis results are pretty damn close to identical, even the molly content you brought up. In fact, you run 5w30 that should decrease wear. For every result like ours (or 5 or 10 or whatever), there would statistically have to be a result like the ones you reference here for the average to end up where it is and that’s why I believe the universal average is a good comparison.

We also know from rhetoric on here there is an absolute zero chance of a second gen guy posting a less than stellar result on the 5.7. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist. They have to in order for the averages to be where they are.

I agree entirely. And the fact that so many similar analyses looking stellar, is what I base there is not an issue with the design or even a bearing material defect. Or it would be showing up early and on almost all tests of the breakdown.

We have too many non 3rd gen owners here whom need justification to themself to not jump into a much better designed truck. I didn’t realize all the advances when I bought my 2022 back in October. I have been wowed by how great my truck is. I love driving it, and all non 3rd gen owners need not prove to us they don’t want on. Just don’t buy one!

As far as Interesting news goes, just got a call from Santa Fe Toyota. My engine is in, my truck goes in next Monday morning. Fingers crossed.

I wish we could have a dedicated "post long block replacement" thread. I see a lot of posts by members saying their engine replacements have been scheduled but not much from anyone who has had it completed. Maybe it's in here but is buried in between all of the other posts. Someone should start that thread so we can follow along with everyone as they go through the process to see what their experience has been.

Got mine back from the motor replacement last week. Only about 200 miles on the new unit so far.

Took 3 days and when it was returned to me, I was surprised the truck was completely detailed inside and out, as clean or cleaner than the day I purchased it.

Took a while for the new engine smell to burn off. Rides/drives as before, no rattles, squeaks, etc.. Just running thru the break in process again before tow season starts.

They gave me a Tundra loaner to drive for the 3 day job...

No thanks. I don't want to be a ringmaster for the 3rd gen circus. I can see people attacking me for not owning one and starting a thread about it. Just saying it would be nice if someone created one so we could see what everyone's experience has been. If they had to go back to the dealership for whatever reason to address any problems etc...

Is it necessary to be that literal? If so, I'll still go with neglect, but I'll be happy to concede the point if you find a documented case that states otherwise. Good luck sir.

Care to weigh in on Francis’s question? Or was there another point to your post?

Funny how somehow can quote a person asking a question and other people get mad when they answer like reading this thread is a life chore.

I agree, the universal averages for each engine type are almost identical and clearly don't make a case for one engine being superior to the other.
