I've never lived there, but obviously have heard some stories.... However, when a community does some good things, we should take notice:

So, this incident was initiated on the 15th and I believe was in Brazoria County... Long story short, shit head violent offender (now back on the streets) kills cop while they were attempting to arrest him for outstanding warrants from additional violent offenses. Dude flees the scene after shooting cop, and a search ensues... US Marshall's Service K9 is deployed and locates suspect hiding in dumpster; suspect shoots multiple rounds at K9 and strikes the K9 in the neck and face; officers on scene return fire and dispatch $hithead to his next life; dog is carried to a DPS helicopeter and is transported to an emergency/speciality services vet nearby. Dog survives and is doing well considering... RIP Deputy Vargas (17 years of service).

A couple of days after being shot and going through his first surgeries, the K9 is being released from the hospital to head home to heal w/his handler for the time being (he'll need 2 or 3 additional surgeries), but point being... When the K9 and his Handler exit the vet hospital, they are greeted by countless people from the community and neighboring LE agencies lining the sidewalks and streets to pay respects and offer support to the K9, his handler and family... To say these scenes are moving, is an understatement. Well done Houston!!!!

I've had the unfortunate experience of attending these showings and responding to the initial part of these types of incidents over the years (Vegas, Phx, CA, and a couple of other cities in NV)... Usually, it's for a K9 that has died in the line of duty, and it's during funeral services, processions, etc... It means the world to the Handlers, their families, and communities these dogs serve when the community comes together like this

The picture below is from 2006 Douglas County, NV... One of their dogs died in a tragic incident that was absolutely devasating to the handler. Even though this team was a few hundred miles north of us, it was not an unfamiliar team as they would come to Vegas and do certifications with us each year. I knew the handler and the dog...

Once we got a head count at the funeral services for the percession, we realized had more than 100 marked units that showed up from NV, CA and AZ; more than 50 K9 teams. Douglas County SO had no idea how many of us were showing up, and needless to say once we were all gathered during the percession and during the funeral services, it was truly something to see (many K9 funerals and services are relatively small as the Handlers often want to keep it within the department, unit or even just within the family). The Sheriff of Douglas County and the K9's Handler were both absolutely speechless (and in tears most of the time)...

To me though, even more important than the support from the Law Enforcement Community was the support and presence the Handler got from the community they served. Population isn't real dense in that area, but residents from all over the county showed up and honored the fallen K9. I remember seeing several groups of children posted up at various intersections and would later learn that they were from schools that the K9 and his handler had visited as part of their community services. I remember seeing several older folks in wheel chairs lined up along the main road to pay their respects, along w/what seemed like everyone else in the community. It seemed the whole town shut down that day...

There's a matrix for what can be turned off by user, by the dealer (tech stream, etc.), and what can't be turned off.... That one can't be turned off. Something to do w/it being an alert for you to check the truck for any passengers that were left behind or something weird like that

I put it in the same category as the driver's floor mat BS... I could spend $5k in service at a dealer, but the paperwork will have more annotations on the stupid driver's side floor mat than everything else that was done or is wrong w/the truck (law suit from an accident and was part of the settlement I guess)...

It's hard not to be moved by the service of dogs. And the community support must be overwhelming for the handlers when that dreaded time comes. Much respect for what you did and what many others do while serving both your communities and the dogs that serve alongside you.

Yeah, it beeps 8 times for every door you close while the key fob is out of the truck. Put the key fob on your seat to avoid.
What’s funny is our 2009 LX only beeps 3 times, and it’s much quieter…like it knows it’s disturbing you and wants to break it to you gently. Lol

The ABSOLUTE WORST is trying to lock your truck with a door open. The beep that never ends…

TSS 3.0 is a big turn off for me. I don't need a vehicle babysitting me or micromanaging me while I drive. I know technology advances but we are moving beyond safety things like blind spot monitoring/giving the driver information about what is going on outside of the vehicle. Instead it is turning into driver monitoring and I have zero desire for any of that in a vehicle.

At some point I'm getting my 2.5 gen Tundra. If things keep going in the direction of babysitting/micromanaging the driver it may be the last vehicle I buy in my life, short of winning the lottery jackpot and getting a Porsche GT3 in Shark Blue.

 

For all parents out there with a daughter over the age of 16.

Our kiddo turns 16 this year. The wife and I have talked a bit about what to do, and even asked the daughter what she would like to do. Just trying to entertain as many ideas as possible to celebrate the occasion. What did you do for yours?

 

I'm waiting for this as well. Sun finally came out but still looking at -22 with wind chill. I know @Tripleconpanna isn't a fan of my weather apps rainbow dial, so I colored it in and now it looks like an Afro.


Anyhow, I use this app because it pulls from a weather station within 500 yards from my house.

If I do keep pulling a trailer, which sometimes I wonder if this is worth it vs. just renting a VRBO, I’d love to just have a simpler truck that sits three in the front. I can add a HU with navigation or maybe just mount an Ipad mini.

I guess the only safety feature I’d really like is to warn me of bicycle riders, especially wrong way sidewalk riders. Bicyclists in this town are swarming all around me, and they sometimes have unrealistic expectations from drivers. I have to be really vigilant. I am not getting warnings for bikes/peds 100% of the time from my truck. The radar doesn’t seem to go to the side at a sufficient angle when I’m stopped at intersections.

 

My omelets usually turn into 'scrambled eggs with stuff in them'. Sometimes they look nice, though.

Lunch at a diner after a nice drive this morning.

Soup noodles with char shou pork. It was nice, but the egg was slightly disappointing. Overall 7/10

 

I have no idea what the restaurants are charging for them but they're $4 a dozen at the grocery store. Is that expensive?
