In neutral, when switched to 4HI it blinks but does not engage. The only way to make it engage is to turn off the truck then back to the on position. Then it engages and the light stays solid. To engage 4LO, same process, I have to switch to 4LO its blinks and doesn't engage until turning off and on again. Switching out of 4LO/4HI no problem.

Has anyone experienced this problem and how did you fix it? or what needed to be replaced?

    I have a 2015 Tundra, V-8, 64k miles.

Switch from 2wd to 4Hi in drive. Then 4Hi to 4Lo in neutral.

May require some forward movement and sawing of the steering wheel left and right to shift into 4Hi and for the front axle decoupler to lock. The electronic 4wd needs to be shifted and cycled on a regular basis or it can seize up.

What works for me is to switch from 2wd to 4hi while moving forward at about 2mph. Then stop, place the truck in neutral, switch from 2hi to 2lo, place the truck in drive, wait a few seconds, then start driving forward.

Thats a rather low mileage truck you have. How often do you engage 4 High and low? Fluid changes?

As others have pointed out, engage 4 high in drive, low in neutral. To get low to engage, Ive needed to let the truck roll in neutral a bit as I believe the manual mentions.

I purchased the truck with 46k miles 4 years ago. I engaged it shortly after bringing it home and it engaged with no problems. True, I don't engage as the 4wd as frequent as it should. I haven't changed any fluids other than the engine oil every 5k. I'll try the rolling engaging technique here in a few minutes now. I'll update.

So, I tried the rolling engaging and still blinking 4HI. I hear the "clunking" noise, I know it engages and disengages but still has blinking light. Same with 4LO, I feel the low gears but 4HI is blinking. I still have to turn off the trunk in neutral to engage 4HI and to 4LO. I'm thinking it's something electrical that is bad. Mechanical gears work and engage but not sending the right signal. Possibly switch? relay?

My guess would be actuator on front axle or transfer case.
