And this might be something to think about - Toyota put this engine in its flagship vehicle world wide. The vehicle that is supposed to be the toughest, most dependable vehicle ever. They don’t have any of the Eco and crash test regulations in the Middle East or Australia or Africa or South America and so on like they do in US/CA. They must have a very high opinion of it or they are committing Hari Kari. And this is also Toyota Japan that made that decision. Not Toyota NA.

I just looked on Toyota South Africa and they have both the 3.3 diesel and 3.5 petrol engines listed. Maybe you only saw a diesel option because you wanted to mock 22whatwedo’s post and had no interest in him having a good point? Love how you even added a picture of the quintessential internet troll but claim you’re not trolling 3rd genners on here.

This isn’t correct. Those countries follow the Euro 6 standards for emissions which is often tougher than the U.S. EPA standards. For example, the gasoline particulate filters are used in Europe.

The EU has several crash standards including the EURO NCAP and General Safety Regulation (GSR).

Australia follows many of these same standards as well. In fact, they were trying to, at one time, make bull bars (Roo bars over there) illegal due to pedestrian deaths.

I had a thought on the Tundra resale value. If I can get a few people to DM me their VIN numbers for trucks that have AND haven’t had their engines replaced, I’ll reach out to my friends over at CarFax and pull up reports. Then, I’ll do some comparisons with those VINs on KBB and I’ll follow up with the KBB staff to see what they have found in their data or past recalls of this sort on other brands.

Go to Australia’s site and find info about the gas engine. I’ll wait.

and I’m not the one that spouted off
When clearly that’s wrong. I could have just as easily brought up Toyota dropping the 300 LC from North America because they’re ashamed of the 3.4TT. No diesel option - no 300 LC.

I’ve never seen any brand publish sales numbers split out by engine.

    I'm glad you axed!

In x-change for detailed info about my truckee you will promote a product I've recently brought to market... just a quick blurb right before you reveal your findings. A two minute talking head should cover it. Mebbe three minutes. I've already workshopped a rough script:

"Folks... before I reveal the true value of these trucks I'd like to share a word about a fantastic product developed by a very close personal fren of mine: Spraynard's Own Khat Ciao by SprayCorp Heavy Industries. Khat Ciao: made from cats, for your cat!"

    That oughta do it.

So are they ashamed of their diesel motor also by your logic then? Not addressing the troll thing either? And I guess every LC 300 that has a gas motor has the V35A if you want to get into that.

I think I like these types of posts best. Can we change to only posts with pets in them until something meaningful regarding the recall comes up?

Do you have a link to this "Toyota" site?

This is for the Type '17 only. Below are the numbers for the Type '21. Which means the listed models are incorrect based on the Type.

Engine Oil Capacity (Type '21) - Tundra, Sequoia, LX 600, GX 550
Drain & Refill without Oil Filter change - 7.0 liters (7.4 US qts, 6.2 Imp. qts)
Drain & Refill with Oil Filter change - 7.3 liters (7.7 US qts, 6.4 Imp. qts)
Dry Fill - 9.2 liters (9.7 US qts, 8.1 Imp. qts)

Oil capacity could easily be changed with a simple change in oil pan design, with absolutely no meaningful changes made to the rest of the motor.

IIRC, @AZBoatHauler shared a post with the comparison of bore, stroke, displacement, etc., and everything was identical between the two motors

Wondering where the different line is that makes the Lexus motor then? If it’s a different motor, different parts, different tooling, etc I’d assume? Are the Lexus LS500 motors all made in Japan at a different factory like the LS460?

Sincerely and seriously hoping this isn’t a debris/design/bearing issue. If so, what a screw job… and insult to injury… a 12 month warranty. Resale will completely tank if the new long blocks start crapping out. :anonymous:

Is it the same motor then? Same type of failure with the #1 and #4 bearings?

According to Toyota/Lexus, it was a debris issue in the LX 600, same as the Tundra/Sequoia.

There have been failures similar to that of the Tundra/Sequoia in the LX 600, so it would be safe to assume that it was related to debris.

It would also be safe to assume that the change is part numbers is the same on the LX 600 engine. That would be something to research.
