    Well aware.

Sure Toyota can find another customer to replace me in 12 months or 12 weeks thousand miles

3? Out of how many units? Hardly significant statistically, even if confirmed to be due to a manufacturing defect, which is not the case AFAIK.

Mere anecdotes and unsupported claims. Where's the data?

And please know that I am not being a skeptic. I have a 2024 Tundra that I bought with me own money and I am in debt because of it.

I'm guessing from the Lexus variant?

I think he is referring to the LS problems. It seems that they were also having bering issues, but due to the low sales numbers of the LS (and the improbability of LS owners being forum enthusiasts) it takes a little more digging and information is sparse.

Toyota said, in exact terms, this isn’t the same engine as the LS.

Also, this isn’t a new engine technology by any stretch of the imagination. Ford’s EcoBoost came out in 2009 for example.

So the logic train on this is that tundra owners are forum enthusiasts or the inverse of LS owners?
Why no new failures listed on the forum since late October '24 with high sales volumes and members scouring Reddit and Facebook for failures?

Tim, wasn't making an argument, just trying to clarify a statement. That being said, both engines go by the moniker V35A-FTS. If memory serves, it was tuned differently for the Tundra. Additionally, I recall as the 3rd gen Tundra was coming out, many were saying, "this is not a new engine, it has been used for several years in the LS 500 and tried and true."

I can't remember what article he was quoting in but Sweers flat out said that the number is the ONLY thing that's similar to the Lexus engine.

Differences - sure. But there is a reason it has the same engine code. Not to mention same displacement, bore, stroke, twin turbo design, etc. they are much more the same than different from my perspective, propensity to eat a bearing included.

Wrote to my dealership about the engine swap.

Their reply: “If the engine fails, we can bring the vehicle in for diagnostics. However, we cannot promise anything will be covered under the recall, until Toyota releases all the recall information.”

I’m not very happy with this reply, especially considering all the swaps I’ve already read about. Thanks for your thoughts/recommendations re how I should approach this/be proactive.

Don’t want to be in a situation where they “can’t promise we cover anything until the recall information is released”.

Mine is a 22 covered under the recall.

And that is complete non-sense even if it came from Sweers.

The Type '17 and Type '21 have more "in common" than they do "not in common".

So, notRyan, is the spreadsheet with failures still being updated and no new failures have been reported or it’s just not maintained anymore?

I took out the space and made it one word. Changing your original trademarked phrase. I should be good. I am however willing to buy you a beer if I ever run into you as a sign of good faith.

And just to prove even stuff from Toyota is wrong - other docs list 10.4 as compression for the Tundra type ‘21 and what LandCruisers are getting a 3.4?
