Funny, I didn’t see a video on how to use common sense. Half of those videos could be eliminated with a video describing common sense.

 

Injen made an actual CAI for the 1st gen Scion xB. People would install them, and upon splashing through a deep puddle (not a flooded puddle, just a deep puddle) the intake would vacuum up water and hydro lock the engine. After reading multiple reports on that problem, i swapped back to the stock airbox on my xB.

 

My truck came with NO fender liners. For a while I removed the inlet pipe and covered over the hole into the fender so it wouldn't suck in debris and water. Then I made my own liners with a couple big ass tree pots. They have held up like a boss so far, 3 yrs.

 

Well, it is a vacuum, and snow likes to build up right on top of the cowl vents. Water (deep mud puddles) also likes to splash up over the hood and cascade back down the windshield and into the cowl vent. I doubt it would ever be an issue. Just clean all the snow off the hood and vent areas, and don't go bombing though any standing water.

 

When you're too drunk to get the mileage from the right vehicle. what is this cluster from???

Idk if you have an an actual filter tucked in there, but you could put a pre filter sock over the inlet just for peace of mind.

 

That's what I did for my Volant because the PO removed the liners and had a shitty hot air intake. The passenger tire was pitching road debris right at the filter. Volant has an air box, but it was extra piece of mind to add the pre filter sock, since the liner is gone and the opening to the air box is bigger than stock air box opening

 

I keep wanting to buy a volant cai just to eke out an easy hp or two when towing. Is it even worth it?

 

Hard to say because I was replacing a no name hot air intake the PO had installed. I know this one is a little quieter and gives me piece of mind because of the air box. I'm a fan of an air box with smooth tube style intake. Also keeps the intake temp lower than the hot air intake did, according to my scanguage.
Now I think my Volant is great paired with long tube headers and a tune. This truck scoots compared to when I bought it with just the hot air intake and TRD exhaust.
But I've also got the DD 12 hole injectors and ditched the 3.91 gears for 4.10 gears from a Sequoia.

I don't think an intake alone is going to make much difference.
I think you'd be better off regearing. It's more expensive, but not that much more than long tube headers, and will likely help more with towing.
However for the cost of a Volant or maybe less, you can get your truck tuned. That would likely also be more helpful than an intake for towing.

I've been getting my batteries from Walmart lately. A 24f is about $135 or so. 3 year warranty isnt terrible I guess. Parts store batteries have gotten ridiculous. When the 7 year old battery in my truck dies I'll probably find a nice 27f to replace it with, may be a bit harder to find for a good price.

Here's the best TITS I have to offer. They salt the hell out of the roads here so it stays put right in the driveway during snow times.

With the higher voltage and stronger starts of the new battery and alternator, I wish I got a new alternator a few years back. A new battery never was as good at keeping a charge with all the short trips I make.

I guess the real test is whether the alternator still does a good job of charging when it drops down to single digits.

 

Shifty or anyone know the correct Toyota part number for radiator for 2006 doublecab 4.7 2wd? Site shows two but does not specify if they are both compatible or not. Thanks for any help.
