1st Gen Tundra Phone Mount solutions?

I lay mine flat on the trans tunnel, and if it stays there, then i know my dog stayed comfy. Calls are ignored & maps are drawn before the trip.

 

All the air vent/clamp type units suck.

HIGHLY recommend the Course Motorsports unit, which I installed. There is a factory screw behind the front AC panel & a piece of spring steel attaches to this and slips between the panel and dash. Magnetic & offers a MagSafe charger option.

Did have some back & forth as they had initially sent the wrong clip; Course sent the correct part at their expense.

The attachment mount is on a gimbaled ball joint so you can adjust the angle.

@assassin10000 I tried to install the garmin mount today and it just fell off. The double-sided tape was not very sticky. I’m not sure if you heated your up before, but it doesn’t like to bend like I thought it would. I removed the old tape was going to install some newer 3M tape. Any help would beappreciated.

 

Did you clean the surface lightly with an alcohol wipe or cotton ball and rubbing alcohol first?

I've redone mine with some 3m double sided tape (grey, 1" wide) in the past.


You might try preheating and shaping it before installing. I probably did.

 

Alcohol beforehand to remove oils and protectants is critical.

But so is heating up the panel if the temps outside are below 50°F. I need to install my replacement camper shell brake light right now. I've been holding off because temps have been sub-40°F.

 

I did clean it with an alcohol wipe beforehand. I’ll try the thicker 3m tape. I just wish our dash was flatter in that area so we didn’t have to contour it.

This was my alternate option, and I love it. If I get sick of my current mount, I may switch up. I'm a righty though, so it'd be tough to switch.

I finally got the dash mount that @adv_mnd designed. I went with drill in the dash option . I had a local company print the mount which was very expensive compared to what he is offering now on his site. Great and clean option.

 

I have been looking at this for awhile and finally ordered one. Should be here in a couple days. I was reading multiple reviews online about it not fitting on their year Tundra. I think the confusion comes from different brackets for different year Tundras and Sequoias. They do not specify AC/DC Tundras either. It should be an easy install, but removing the dash now is a pain with my 9in screen.
I'm curious which model bracket you ended up settling with. I ordered the "TOYOTA SEQUOIA (2000-2006) TUNDRA (2000-2002)" for my 2004 DC.

On another note, I printed out the mentioned YAK Attack mount and it stuck good with VHB tape for a few days before falling off in the Florida sun. I decided against the drill option for the sake of my dash. I can send it to someone for the cost of shipping and Yak rails (free print). I printed in black, but painted it, so it is a blueish color (thought it would be more gray to match the dash).
I don't have the rights to sell the printed file for commercial use at a profit, but I could probably print a handful and send a few for the price of shipping and filament (once again free print - no commercial use on the printed file). It certainly isn't 24hrs, probably more like 3-4hrs max. Printed in ASA (better than ABS).
I could probably redesign it from scratch, but 3D printing is just a hobby of mine right now, not trying to get rich from it.

Anyway, I'm excited to try out the Course Motorsports mount, and once I confirm the model, I'll probably end up modifying it for a 1in Ram mount ball.

 

I don’t recall the model; they initially sent the wrong one. Issue resolved; one year on, it is in daily use and works great.

With the new, Bluetooth/Airplay stereo it adds a lot of capability with Maps. Since there’s a rear cable, I will eventually reroute the charger cable to the mount through the a/c vent.

 

A wireless dongle for CP connection is the way to go

 

I disagree. It might be highly dependent on the car and mine might just be finicky (Nissan Maxima), but I have bought 4 different models of these and results are pretty inconsistent. Wired for me has a much better success rate (not 100% cause maybe it's my car). About 95% success on wire and 50% success with dongle.
I have had best success with the most recent CarLinkKit Mini SE Pro, which is much faster than the others. TBH it is at the point now that I basically just wire it every time.
I have a wireless CarPlay Pioneer DMH-WT3800NEX in the Tundra and love it, works wirelessly every time. Loved it so much I bought one for the Ford.

I want to be able to induction charge the phone via magnetic mount; the angle enables me to use the map on the phone easily (I chose a less complex, retro Kenwood, open box with leds.)

 

I mount my flip phone in my shirt pocket or lay it in a cup holder.

Works great. Sorry, no pics, it's a flip phone.
