Transmission cooler bypass Actuator

I finally finished it and did a short test on it this afternoon, with a flick of a switch I brought my trans temp down from 181° to 161°. Will do some more testing tomorrow if time permits. No more pinning the bypass this summer

Ok got to do a little testing, I started out with the bypass Actuator engaged this is what my temps were after 12 miles of highway @ 80 mph.



Thease are the temps with unit disengaged, after 12 miles @ 80 mph. The outside temp was 23°F



Basically it is just a Mini Motion Actuator attached to 17mm 1/2 socket with some machining and three Allen set screws. Everything has to be aligned properly to avoid clearances with the transmission shifting mechanism. The actuator is somewhat waterproof (IP54) and will see how long it lasts in the rust belt. Picture below is of the first unit that I made up.

 

Nice ingenuity! Would be great if we could swap in a 165 deg thermostat in the stock housing.

 

Or just trim the spring?

 

Haha. I would like to experiment but I yanked the warming puck and thermostat off and ran it straight to the cooler.

 

So I gotta ask the obvious question here. Why this and not just pin it?

 

Cause it gets cold in Minnesota?

 

Summer temperature varies alot in Minnesota, weekend racing, occasionally towing and worked at a transmission shop a few years and don't like the smell of burnt trans fluid.
