I'm not a huge fan of Neil Young but check out On the Beach or Rust Never Sleeps.

His music is a lot better than anything Lynyrd Skynyrd did, that's for sure.

 

I think King Gizzard is the only one I've heard of.

Though if they're good, I could have conceivably heard some of the others on one of our independent radio stations and not realised it.

 

Skynyrd was clapping back at Young for painting all of the south as racist, which it's not; and neither was Skynyrd. Skynyrd's use of the confederate flag wasn't helping their message; but the flag isn't a broad brush either, at least for a lot of folks (who venerate the flag and are also not racist). Not simple. But some simple people (like apparently Young) who need to beat their chest about how non-racist they are need a villain, so anyone proud about their southern heritage is it.

Unlike with The Guess Who (and yeah, maybe I'm too quick to judge, but I've judged) who I see as anti-American but good musicians; I don't particularly like Neil Young as a solo artist. Just an opinion (like an asshole, I have one).

 

Neil Young should have taken gee-tar lessons......

He was def better as part of a larger band.

But he did pave the way for other bad/marginal vocalists, so that’s good I guess!!!

 

Young just hits me as a bit self-indulgent or self centered. He seems in his own mind. Instead of telling me a story, he seems either preachy or like he's telling himself the story - reminiscing to himself about his own experience. I don't feel in his vibe. Again, with opinions and assholes...

 

Nobody's mentioned Joe Cocker yet. At least a handful of great songs, even if he didn't write any of them.
