Not much has changed there, it is still a legal mafia.

As mentioned, feds make it so a brewer has to use a distributor. To become a distributor, or to buy and existing one, the brewer has to approve... *side eye... The distributor moves their products, usually beer/water/soda/tobacoo to the retailers. New retailers are bad for distributors, so they incentivize the big boys to grow, not expand. Brewers do the same. They want JJ Taylor to own all of Florida, Gulf to own all of Alabama, Furher PA, etc....

Molson Coors and AB are still the power houses. There are a couple small ones out there, but they all get bought by these two because they have sole distribution rights to the majority. For a small brand to become successful, they have to sell out. And to sell out, they run the risk of being shelved or having their product changed.

Brewers had adding skus. Distributors hate adding skus. Retailers dont care as long as it sells.

Obviously this is all broad stroke so there are exceptions. but this is pretty accurate as of today.

Distributors basically print money. but being one comes with its own BS. they can order whatever they want, but they will receive whatever the brewers send. So if a distributor grows and adds sqft to their building and the brewer finds out, they will shove it down their throats. It took AB over a year to acknowledge their f up with bud light and start taking it back.

microbrews get snarfed up by the big brewers in America.

this one is fun. The big boys hate these becuase they keep adding skus. Plus, modern refrigeration solved the need for IPAs. So I am biased... hard pass 99% of the time for me.

But to answer your question, very few. The majority of IPAs are micro brews and the big boys dont want them because they dont move enough. The ones that do, say Goose Island, are snubbed by the IPA snobs and further proves the point that IPAs are a status thing... so anytime the big boys pick on up, the consumer tries them and then snubs them. so they typically fade away.

You've got that backwards. Lagers, pilsners, wheat ales and fruit beers are the ones that taste like ass.

LOL, it was fun to build. My favorite part about the build was that it was my divorce present to myself. So I went all out. When asked what I was building it for, I told everyone excel and youtube. It is a powerful build so it annoyed the nerds.... I loved it.

But I also run 3d design software and cad, so the power gets used. Its a beast.

solar panels are a maybe. mining is a never lol. I actually just sold all my crypto for med bills and probably wont buy back in to it. We will see.

lagers & pilsners sell. 99% of the market

all that other shit is foo-foo snobbery.

IPA's are 2 measures of ass, soaked in water that has had 23 cigarettes put out in it.

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good.

The F150 has always outsold the Tundra.

For years, the Honda Civic was the number one selling vehicle in Canada.

McDonald's sells more burgers than 5G or Whataburger or whichever chain you like best.

Does that mean those products are superior?

    Strawman.

I said it's not popular because it tastes like ass.

the F150 is probably (and demonstrably) the best pickup out there.

The market decides what is good.

just because you like it, does not mean everyone else thinks so. (snobbery)

if they thought so, they would buy it.

now, scarcity does play a role (supply/demand) - maybe they just don't make enough IPA.

You should see the parking lot at Odell’s. There are so many Texas license plates. We also have a huge A-B plant north of town that’s been there since 1988. They have a good beer garden as well, any time you are welcome. :)

Just watch out for the red light cameras, and the two second interval left turn arrows :annoyed:

I was originally going to build an open concept where the case was Florida cut out of acrylic and each piece was tied into a city or something. But then my laptop bit the dust so I scrapped the idea and built this so I had a working PC again. WFH doesnt like down time.

I like your set up too! I like loud or clean.

IPAs have their purpose. Mostly taking extra money out of peoples pockets and also keeping certain people indoors.

Hate on light beers all you want, but there are several reasons they sell by the truck load. Easier out in the heat, easier for longer days and help keep you from getting hammered too quickly. yeah yeah, but 9% brooooooo.... yeah, I dont want that when I am at a Rangers game or floating the Sante Fe for 3 hours. and on a day to day, I dont need the weighted feeling they provide.

And, yes scarcity plays a role. Small batch feels more inclusive, but its all snobbery and a way to keep the conversation going.

i think price should be factored in to what is popular as well. Foldgers coffee is very popular because its cheap, not because it tastes good
Coors light is cheap and ipa’s generally sell at a premium. People like cheap.

    Price is a fair factor.
    The market decides price.

Folgers is just coffee. it's a commodity.

and it must be good, because it sells a LOT.

if it was nasty, it would not sell, no matter what the price. (see what I did there?)

They do sell to a niche market, almost every craft brewery has one in their line up.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    true.

there is a small following. very niche.

here's the sad part of all these microbrews.

These beer distrib's measure shelf space in the stores. the more the better.
they simply cram all this microbrew swill onto the shelf. most of the time it just sits there.

NOBODY makes money for a beer to sit on the shelf. bars/restaurants as well.

my point: if shelf space was not a factor, most of these awesome beers would disappear.

this goes back to the distribution mafia issue
