No problems with lags here, exhaust might help or bully dog tuner or DAP tune, or be cheap and use tow/haul every time.

When I was shopping around for mine, I test drove a couple of brand new '17's. The first one was very sluggish to the point I thought (and still do) there was something wrong with it? I drove a second one that was better but but still seemed a little under powered for a 381hp motor.

I ended up with a 2015 and it is noticeably peppier in both mine and my GF's opinion.

I noticed the power difference coming from a 2007 Toyota Tundra 5.7 TRD. I test drove the 2017 1794 Tundra and the Platinum edition..basically anything not TRD was a dog to put it lightly. Once I test drove the New 2017 Toyota Tundra 5.7 TRD Crewcab and mashed the peddle I was excited that the power was still there. I figured the other two models were more of a luxury vehicle than a 4X4 beast. I could afford to buy any of those vehicles but lack of horse power was my determining factor. I hope this helped.

I don't think you will find hardly any that agree with your post, its all chicken but the bone and the bone is still a 5.7!

    Some suspension tweaks
My 2015 Platinum suspension sucked ass* considering all my previous trucks were TRD, but dang, this truck doesn't know how to go slow.

    *I fixed the suspension...

I am sure I hurt some feelings but I drive for a living and when I step on the peddle hard I expect results. I am not saying the Platinum and 1794 aren't as fast but there is definitely a noticeable difference from the starting line. The salesman agreed with me to the point of saying I was right when I took him for each test drive. I wanted the 1794 really bad but I couldn't believe the difference.

Somoan, hope it’s not a stupid question but what does using the tow/haul do for lags? Sorry I’m just trying to learn. Thanks

Turning on tow/haul and turning the TSS off will take the restrictions, or “nannies” as they’re called ‘round these parts, off your engine basically, thus engaging beast mode.
Just give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.

It will learn how you drive. If you take off the line a little fast each time it will have a quicker response after a few hundred miles, maybe a little more. I drive like that and my 17' feels like a 07-08

Hold it a gain for 3 seconds, turn all of it off.

I dunno...We test drove a 2017 and it was quick. The 2018 we bought is super responsive and will smoke the tires easily. It even gets up and goes with all the nannies on.

Yeah my 18 in stock form gets up better than my 14 with TRD dual.

Can you run in beast mode all the time without damaging engine or drivetrain?

I've thought about disconnecting my battery to see if it resets this "learning". I've definitely felt more of a lag when getting on it to go around and pass someone on the freeway since new. Annoying...

I lived the nightmare of the 17 Tacoma. I can say without hesitation that myTundra has all the power I could expect from a V8.

No problems with my 2018. I usually don't drive very aggressively but when I did get on it a few times it was pretty impressive, definitely felt quicker then the 2015 F-150 5.0L I owned and almost on par with the 2016 3.5L EcoBoost I owned right before switching to the Tundra. I tried the T/H a couple of times and, in my opinion is a little to jumpy, I wish they had a 50% T/H switch which would make the truck's throttle response perfect for me.
