My son and I were on the way to a sports bar to watch the winter classic, we had an accident. A driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn against traffic. Our light turned green, intersection was clear at the time until it wasn't and we collided. My son and I are okay, little sore for the rest of the day. Other driver and passengers walked away. Insurance approved the claim against his insurance - he was 100% at fault.

I am glad the truck did its job, was surprised the airbags did not deploy but after reading a few posts understand that's a variable. Posting here as the truck is at a repair facility, not sure if it will be totaled. If the insurance company decides to repair, what advice do you have? For example, there are sensors in the front end that are damaged and I want to have some peace of mind as I drive. Also, any advice on diminished value and how to claim? This is a 2019 Limited 4X4 with 37,342 miles.

    Thanks in advance!

Glad everyone is OK. That is not totaled - cosmetic mostly. Have a reputable shop do the work and it will be good if not better than new - and if done well with a lifetime warranty it will not affect valuations. Luck.

Definitely not totaled. I just had very similar damage fixed on my truck. It was about $7000 something to get fixed by insurance.

Doesn’t look like it is serious enough that a diminished value claim to be in your favor. I had some rear end frame damage after getting rear ended and I didn’t stop going after the other party’s insurance and did get some money back for diminished value.

What a way to bring in 2025 though. Dammit man.

Great, thanks. Have no idea what parts cost, but the hood latched but did not click to lock and the passenger side fender will require replacement. I did run a few diminished value calculations, will ask for $2500 and see what happens.

What shop are you using that gives you a lifetime warranty on repairs?

The shop I used said they give a lifetime warranty on their work. However, when my inner fender liner wasn’t fully clipped in or my fog light wasn’t adjusted correctly for height, I just fixed them myself because I can’t afford the downtime drilling off my truck for a day.

$2500 ain’t much and you’ll probably get that no problem. I was fighting for more since the frame damage does scare off buyers if I wanted to sell. It took several months for me to get my claim sorted.

That will be well over 7K. My 08 was hit in front of my old house while it was parked and it was $5400.

Thanks. Body shop was recommended by insurance, told me it was the highest rated within my vicinity. I will head over to the body shop today, I want to make sure they get pictures of everything, and grab two of the parts I left in the truck - don't want them re-used.

Many auto insurance companies offer a lifetime repair guarantee for as long as you own your vehicle if you have the repairs completed at one of their recommended auto body shops.

It’s such a stressful situation, especially when it happens out of nowhere like that. It’s great to hear that you and your son are okay, though I’m sure you both were shaken up. That’s always the scariest part—when something can go wrong so quickly, and you don’t see it coming. Sounds like the other driver was definitely in the wrong, so it’s good that insurance is already moving on the claim. If you ever need to chat with someone about the legal side of things or have questions about how things should go from here, you might want to look up female attorneys near me.

Crush bar seems to be intact, the frame is not compromised. Bumper, grille, hood, wheel well liner to be replaced. These all are super flimsy on the Tundra, bumper deforms easily by its own weight when you hold it in air by one corner. Compared to my same era Swedish car, Tundra's exterior is made of tin foil unfortunately. That's why you see a total obliteration even after a minor accident. Most important is the frame, and it looks like yours is not compromised.

I'm piecing mine back together after very similar damage. The most expensive part was headlights and yours appear to be okay.
Think I'm gonna be about $250-$300 for those front end parts. I don't need a hood, you might not either. I do need a door which has been impossible to source. If that is more than $5k in damage (insurance gets reamed) I'd be very surprised. I was quoted $3700 and change but they won't fix mine due to a pre-existing condition.
Here's what I look like after a teardown, the driver's side fender is crushed as well but not pictured here and my hood seems to be misaligned a bit.

Repair cost, by the State Farm recommended repair shop, $9700. I am concerned about the lower control arm on the passenger side and the alignment. Tow hook and radiator frame were damaged, shop said frame was good. Will see after I get it back around the 24th of this month. Repair comes with a non-transferrable lifetime warranty, my preference is they get it right the first time - going back/forth for repairs will get old quickly.

I plan on filing a diminished value claim once repairs are completed. Asking for 20% of the ACV, somewhere between $7-8k.

It’s more like they force the body shop to offer the warranty in exchange for steering customers their way. Those recommended shops are also required to follow pricing, turnaround time and aftermarket parts use quidelines. Among other things in the contract. Tomato tomahto.
