Hoping this turns into the new version of "Derp that shit" as made famous on the Tacoma side of the world. Poor chap mishandled spelling Plasti-dip, and it then morphed into a life of it's own.

Something as lugubrious as this thread could use some "samary emllurr".......

Looks like the price of the engine assembly has come way down since this started. Sad this is the end @eddiefromcali - we should start a fundraiser for one last oil sample.

I’m a little slow, what oil do you want to sample?

@eddiefromcali has done several (4 maybe?) with each one containing more silver than the last. I think his last sample came back around 20ppm.

Sorry again but this is a failure repair then or a replacement motor under the recall? Just curious if this (in the case it was a failure) means that silver is in fact what to look for in oil sample. There’s been some speculation without any solid answers.

I’d like to see the total estimate number. People were arguing with me like crazy that the engine recall would only cost Toyota about $5k per truck. I didn’t, and stop don’t, agree.

I’ve been hearing 20/30k but who the hell knows. They Ned to give a 7/100K warranty to make us feel right. This is bull shit and I work for Toyota. Hearing it’s the rocker assembly and not the BS debris in motors. Poor design.

rocker assembly refers to the top end valve train.

Just full of more hearsay , speculation, etc

Toyota engineering isn’t going to pop on here and release some secret documented cause outside of what they have stated and published , until then it’s just more speculation and not provable theories and opinions

I believe this motor has been around for several years, in a non dual turbo format. I don’t buy that it’s a motor design flaw.

Rockers are well after the main bearing in the oil supply order. There is absolute damage seen to main bearings on these defective motors.

Possibly a short, hairy, grumpy dude hanging out under a bridge? Hmmmmmm

My 83 Supra had a top end failure driving back to Phoenix from Colorado I beleive one of the hydraulic lifters failed or maybe the rocker arm I can't remember it was 35 years ago. I drove it for a couple months like that. Not too smart. I was poor. I fixed it by replacing the one camshaft and all the lifters and a few rockers one one side. After fixing it, the oil pressure was quite a bit lower and the new lifters wouldn't pump up hydraulically then loose pressure and clack a little. It would come and go. I drove all the way back to NJ like that and about six months later I had major bottom end failure. Probably driving around with all that metal debris for those 2 months did it. Supposedly, those straight six dual OHC motors had top end lubrication problems and Toyota made a larger oil pan. Now, here I am, 35 years later. Except this time I knowingly bought a truck with a "debris" problem. We shall see. I am expecting my 2nd oil analysis result. (well first because the 1st one I sent had 1200 miles) I hope it's clean because I'm moving my daughter, son-inlaw and 4 year old grandaughter from North Bay Ontario to NJ, towing a 12X8 then planning to tow my 7K TT to Florida in the late Spring. Seriously considering going to inquire about a motor for my 1/22 build 2022 OR Limited with 75K

Agree but the AJT knobs are a great upgrade/quality materials- both function and visual.

I received the 2nd notice in the mail that the recall was ready. I called the dealer and spoke to them. The advice I was given? The recall is good for lifetime, and if I am happy with the truck as it is, then drive it and rack up the miles. She told me it would be like a new truck whenever I wanted to cash it in. This is at Pederson Toyota Fort Collins Colorado.

This was exactly what I was hoping to hear, so I am going to keep on driving as long as it’s running good. I feel like I have a great deal as I was planning to keep this truck for at least 10 years. So it’s all in my favor as far as I am concerned.
