    'zactly...EV ain't for you.

EV ain't for me either. I need a truck that does truck things.

but, urban commuter? EV's are perfect.

for the wife to toodle around town & such...mega-perfect.

Like I always say, I'm not against electric vehicles. I will buy one when I can have a direct replacement for my ICE truck.

    - They make a half ton sized pickup that doesn't look stupid
    - I can charge from completely flat to full in under 10 minutes
    - I can charge at any existing service station location
    - I can get 500km (300 miles) of range at -40 degrees while towing a 8000lb trailer through through the mountains
    - A decently loaded trim level costs less than $60,000 CAD new.

Until that happens, electric vehicles are toys or for urban commuters.

A hybrid vehicle made more sense to us, still the best of both worlds. EV vehicles still seem like a luxury/prestige item to me. And we don’t need to be handing out money to EV owners.

That money needs to be for defense. And the best defense sometimes is a good offense. So we need more bombs, and batteries, and delivery devices. We will have plenty of desperate people to work in the factories to mass produce those items. I don’t plan on being one of them.

Sat down at my desk and while waiting for my computer to boot I got a text from my bank announcing my automatic paycheck deposit.

I just got paid to show up today. Mission accomplished.

I'm not even fond of hybrids....it's like a half measure. nothing gets accomplished.

and the A/C compressor is electric on hybrids...which makes it damn expensive to replace.

just put the damn 5.7L & 10speed in the 2026 Tundra! there-- fixed it for you.

I am quite fond of the idea of an electric vehicle with a gas range extender. All the positives of an electric vehicle like instant torque and less maintenance without the downsides of range anxiety and needing to find a charger.

I don't like how limited EV's are. But I'm also not an urban dweller. So until the manufacturers adjust for the rural residents ev's just don't make sense.

But you also shouldn't discharge your Tesla below 20% regularly if you're concerned about battery life.

Yep. I did it with my 2013 F150 and 2011 Sierra. Haven't had to tow 8000lbs yet with either of my Tundras, but my '22 got over 600kms to a tank fully loaded towing nearly 2000lbs through the mountains last summer. My '05 did it in winter, got right around 500kms to that tank.

Diesels can do it pretty easily. I used to do it regularly when I worked in the patch near Grande Cache.

I paid under $60K all in for my '22 Tundra including extended warranty.

I guess I could technically do over 500 km (300 miles) with my 144L (38 gallon) tank since I typically get about 25L/100 km (9 mpg) when towing. Probably a little worse on the way to the mountains and a little better on the way home. That's pushing it for me, though. I generally like to fill up once on a 400 km (250 mile) trip just in case. Also because fuel is much cheaper in Olds than in Banff.

You can absolutely charge to 100% every time, if you want to. Some people do.
It won't damage the battery, you might see more battery degradation than normal.

This is all assuming you're talking about charging to 100% via Supercharger, home charging is way mo betta on the battery.

Like @nobodyintexas said, EVs are not for everyone.
I love my Tesla but I'm the first guy in line to push back on stupid EV mandates.

We average around 1k miles/ month. This was our cost for Dec. :D

I usually have a jerry can in the back as a safety net on road trips and usually fill up whenever I get the chance once I'm around 1/4 tank. I never fill up in places like Jasper or Banff if I can avoid it. I do GP to Edmonton on roughly 3/4 of a tank. GP to Jasper is about the same, so I top up in Grande Cache which gets me well past Jasper and then I can fill up in Blue River.

so much hatred against the system for this concept. Mining for lithium isn't done with batteries. So it's okay to use fossil fuel to produce clean energy...

I plugged her into a 110v. She reported 7.5 hrs to charge from 43% to 60%.

Unfortunately I plugged a golf cart into another outlet on a different wall and tripped the fuse. So she drove off at 41% the next day and promptly stopped at a super charger station before even reaching the highway.
