Whole lot of what ifs in that. Just enjoy it, the future will take care of its self.

That market adjustment seems to be already factored into the trade-in value. The sale to an independent buyer may be a different story. If I didn't know anything about the recall and found it (engine replacement) on the carfax, I would walk away from that vehicle.

Right or wrong, Toyota slapped a scarlet letter on these trucks that time will not fix.

I bought a used non # matching 2012 Camry from Toyota of Hattiesburg for few thousand less, because of this. I didn’t find out about this until the finance guy told me as I was signing the paperwork, that pissed me off. He also couldn’t tell me how many miles was on the used/replacement engine that came out of a wrecked car. Allegedly the one I bought had been serviced at some shop & they didn’t put the radiator cap back on & the people just drove it until it died on them, then they had it towed to the dealership & traded it in while fighting the warranty & the shop that serviced it. It had 23k on it when I bought it. I gave it to my FIL and it’s got ~200k now. Still runs good, but the point of all of this was it was discounted because of non number matching.

To a much greater extent, trade in values are impacted by the greater supply of new. Sales are up and the vast majority of people actually buying the trucks don't give a rip or don't know about the recall. Those that do know have probably rationalized that they'd rather take the risk with Toyota fixing the problem vs GM, Ford, Ram.

The over reaction to swapping a motor or lifting the cab is just that, an over reaction. My F350's had the cabs pulled a couple of times. It never caused a problem.
Engine removals are routine in many/most very value sensitive cars. Ferraris, Lambos, and Porsches to list a couple. If your car fax shows it didn't have the engine pulled for service the value goes down by $10K's or you have to provide records that the services were done.

The vast majority don't have a problem or don't worry about having a problem. Very few NEW failures on the forum given the amount of trucks in service and miles driven. Thank goodness Toyota doesn't let the noisemakers that don't have a gen3 and won't buy one weigh heavily on their product marketing decisions.

I like my Gen3, I don't love it but my slightly waning opinion of the truck has nothing to do with the engine recall.

Lmao go trade in a 22-23 without the new engine or try to sell it and see what value you get. These years are tainted forever

Umm....try to keep up. I'm pretty sure the guy you quoted tipped the tech who installed a supercharger on his Gen 2.5.

I'm not sure why that information is relevant to this thread, but we seem to have a lot of 2nd Gen lurkers who can't resist the Gen 3 forum.

Yes tip is controversial but is my way to maintain a strong relationship with the tech and also the service advisor. You will be surprised but it goes a long way when you maintain your cars at the same place and the same tech and service advisor takes care of you. I consistently get a 30% off with a magic coupon at every service You should try this approach

So says the one who wasn’t tipped for giving extra care to a customer.

Look, you can decide to not tip. I know what it has done for me at Sams in the tire department to have much higher attention than before. I will continue to give a few extra bucks to those who care for my investments.

I meant no ill will or harm with my comments as it is still truly an online forum and I have to respect that. The site is labeled for Tundra enthusiasts and the topic of this subject is Interesting news related to the engine recall - which is very valuable to me and others. The back and forth about warranty assumptions and what Toyota might do seemed excessive.

Was just hoping to get the conversation back on track. I sincerely appreciate everyone that takes time to post pictures of the engine deliveries, replacement video links, and the like.

Thanks to the 2nd genner dead enders and Ford losers this thread is so lost that Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett, or Tonto couldn't steer it back on course. I don't like our situation, but it may well turn out eventually that having a brand new factory engine replaced by certified technicians might actually enhance value, especially for you guys who have put some serious miles on your Tundras. That would be best if Toyota steps up and gives us some sort of extended warranty.

You literally told everyone who doesn't own a 3rd gen to shut the fuck up. How do ya figure that as "no ill will" when a ton of people in here, and across the forum, aren't 3rd gen owners? The math ain't mathing.

So if others didn't jump right into the next gen tundra they are now fair game for derision and scorn?

Derails are a regular, and frequently fun, occurrence on this forum. They also commonly lead to banter, jokes, and friendship, but it seems you're actually getting venomous over it. Are you, or is some kind of humor/sarcasm getting lost in the text?

Nope. Plenty of examples of engine issues that had lower values at resale if they weren't remediated. I've lived it.

LOL I don't tip. Ever. I do use the same dealer and service advisor. Going on 19 years now. Find a decent service department/advisor and build the relationship. It will be to your advantage. This is the way.

Pretty sure he's not claiming that not doing the swap will preserve value. He's saying the fact that the issue requires swaps in the first place is not going to increase value as suggested in the post he quoted. It's more likely that the fact that swaps were required will decrease value, if it has an impact at all.

I’ve been trying to find any real data on impact on resale value. Besides people’s opinions has anyone seen any real-life examples? I need to follow up again with the staff at KBB about this and I’ll make a note to do so next week when people are back in the office.

    @testerdahl

I see your poking around here. Hope all is well and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the fam.

We have a journalistic assignment (actually a request, HA)

Can you reach out to your Toyota dudes and ask about the extended warranty for the long block replacements?

are we looking at 1 year 12K if at the end of or out of the standard powertrain 5/60K or are they going to do a customer campaign and over extended?

    Thanks Tim!
