Hey Tesla peeps… if you want to maximize the life of the battery do you not charge above 60% or 80% or?

80-90% for daily driving recommend. Charging to 100% for trips is totally fine, just not advised for daily

Depending what battery they have; most AWD will be 80% for the daily. It’ll tell you on the app too. I moved mine up just to reflect what I’m describing

Perfect, thanks. That’s what I thought.

Not shopping… my son invited some friends up to visit during new years. One person drove 275 miles in her parent’s Model 3. She stopped twice on the drive to charge. When we plugged the car into a wall outlet to charge she mentioned keeping the battery no more than 60% charged to maximize the battery life.

Was just fact checking what her parents told her. As is often the case, the facts were in fact not facts.

I coughed my ass off and blew snot rockets all over the countryside trying to kick this cold today. Had intentions of only doing a 20-25 mile mountain bike ride, but ended up at 40 miles. I'm beat. I would estimate that only 3-4 miles were on pavement connecting trails, the rest was perfectly damp single track. Traction was epic.

I think the cyber truck at that location has a correlation to something. Can't put my finger on exactly what though?

Did you hear about the man who thought he was a golden retriever?
He went to the psychiatrist and said "Doc, I think I'm a golden retriever!"
The doctor said "Interesting, sit down on the couch and let's talk about it."
The man said "I'm not allowed on the couch."

Her parents probably told her 80%, lol.

I would of charged to 100% before the trip and then topped off for 10 minutes along the way

Who knows...she's pretty smart, but I didn't push it as her parents "only" drive Teslas and it wasn't worth the discussion. But I definitely would have left the house with 100% and not messed around at a charger...

I don't understand this logic... EVs not be able to be charged to capacity... I mean I understand the argument, but how can anyone be okay only using part of their already limited range??

That would be like saying your ICE vehicle will hold 30 gallonds of fuel, but carry the extra 60lbs load (per 10 gallons of fuel) will cause your vehicle to wear out 10% faster, so therefore we recommend that you only fuel up to 2/3 of your tank's capacity and lose 100 miles of range; which means more fill ups (stops to charge), more inconvenience, etc...

Whatever this forum told me to do
it's just a battery life thing.

80% is "ideal" daily. 100% is ok for travel and such.

if you use it like we do, 80% is fine...it has a full tank every morning. ~254 "miles".

    that's the logical fallacy....EV's have a full tank every morning....ICE's don't.

I refill the Tundra every week....i use about 22 gallons a week. On Friday morning, I only have 1/3 my range left.

I'm someone who puts effort towards having an open mind and really trying to understand things from both sides, but buying a vehicle for a fair amount of money and then not being able to have its full range available at all times without causing damage is pretty silly. Imagine the uproar if the next generation 4Runner had a disclaimer that said if you filled the gas tank all the way up that it could cause damage. I know everyone has different lifestyles and for many out there only having 60 or 80% of your battery is more than enough but for me that's a big time deal breaker. Well, rather, another deal breaker considering the amount of chargers in my area is extremely slim, especially the further north I go where there are almost literally none.

    ok....

you can't use all the fuel in your 4R

in fact...we get all balled up @ 1/4 tank....and go fill up.

    never using all the fuel.

While that may be true filling up takes a couple minutes and I have no fears about filling it up all the way. Like I said different strokes for different folks. I drive 2 to 300 miles in below zero weather in areas that literally don't have an electric vehicle charger so electric vehicles fundamentally will not work for me and my life.
