I remember that nightmare for that officer. If someone is a threat to society, they should be removed from it. Taking weapons is a fools game. Are we sure that LE got all the weapons?

The most recent update I found on the situation was from February 2020, that the woman who falsely filed the petition had been arrested on 1st degree perjury charges, and the Larimer County DA and CSU Campus Police Department had released a joint statement saying that there was never a relationship between the woman and the officer, prior to or since the shooting of her son, and that the DA stood behind its investigation into the LEO shooting of the womans son, and found no wrongdoing by the officer that warranted any action.

Here's the link to the newest news story I've found related to it. Woman who petitioned to seize Colorado officer's guns under new red flag law arrested

And not to get political, as I do not want a vacation, but the people who support red flag laws are the exact same people that would use it to disarm you because they believe that no one should have a gun in the first place. It's the "believe all women" types that would weaponize a red flag law in the same way they've weaponized anonymous accusations of sexual assault/rape. It's a modern day lynch mob mentality.

"Freedom is not free, learn to defend it" - early education by dad. Wife does not complain. She is not an anti-gun person she used to be since she's got her first child. She complains now I've got so many toys and bring no meat to the table.

Happy New Year in the land of free men!

P.S.: #1 is a great shooter. 10/22 or crossbow, he shoots better than his proud dad does!

I do, and it makes it tough in that it's my day job. I just try to keep it off the discussion menu during family get togethers. Oddly, it's the wild conspiracy questions I get about the gun industry that really flips my wig. Some wild stuff out there.

They (anti gunners) hang around people I do not associate with. Most that I have had the misfortune of casually being introduced to seem to really have no clue what they are talking about. At that age (adults) I really feel sorry for them and have zero interest in learning them.
I get upset at people that start talking about guns and they truly do not have no idea what is coming out of their pie hole!
If one is to debate or have a discussion one should know at least a little bit of what the discussion entails and they should ask questions if they do not know!
It is for all above reasons I do not associate with those types!!:) most of my associates either hunt and or have gun/s for protection.

I think this highlights the biggest problem I see with most anti gun arguments. The lack of education in what they are arguing against. A lot of it seems to be word vomiting the latest buzz word and propaganda without any sort of idea where the information came from or whether or not its accurate.

Amen. Teach them young and have respect. I have one that can field strip my G17 and shoot most of my weapons (I won't let her shoot some of the big bore guns yet).

9 years old and first time out. She has a Browning Buckmark .22 pistol, .410 shotgun, .22 rifle.

    IMG_2475.png

At 10 she wanted to test out the scope on the AR10. I told her to pick it up and it was a test. She made me proud.

Buckmark is a great pistol for learning on, and in all honesty, I always take mine to the range. If you need any upgrades to the Buckmark, hit me up on a DM.

It's sort of funny, but mostly tragic, what's happened with guns and the debate around them in the US. I blame it on the NRA. The rhetoric is insane. I have a gun, I hunt, I grew up around guns. I have a brain.

Guns are fine. The fetish around them would also be fine if people kept it to their bedrooms like most fetishes. NRA used to be a gun advocate for the view I see from most people on this forum, and a view I hold. Responsible gun ownership, sportsmanship etc. Then it became 'government "jackbooted thugs" are coming for your guns! The "fill in the blank with your boogey man of choice" are coming for your guns! From my cold dead hands!' Somewhere along the way, people completely lost their shit on this issue.

I'm for guns, I'm for responsible ownership. I see no reason militia-bros need to walk around in riot gear with rifles, pretending they're "operators", living out some fantasy. That, to me, shows their weakness, not their strength. Clearly they've got something to prove. I've shot AR-style guns and they're fun as hell. Do I want to walk around town with one? Nope. Should average citizens be allowed to? I really don't know.

Gun owners have won nearly every battle. They continue winning. Most regulations that were implemented when both sides of the aisle were pro reasonable gun control have since been voted off the books. The gun lobby keeps winning, and their rhetoric keeps getting more apocalyptic, more unhinged. I guess the money and power dry up if people aren't kept afraid, very afraid.

I'm not for rabid on either side of this issue. They're different sides of the same coin. Both are unreasonable. When some people here comment that part of the reason many rabid anti-gun people are anti-gun is because of stories they hear and that they're generally misinformed, they're right. But it's true on the other side, too. The NRA and others are trying to keep people scared, thinking any regulation is a slippery slope and soon we'll have no guns. Most people in the US don't give a shit about anyone's guns. When people who aren't necessarily pro or anti-gun hear the rhetoric coming from the NRA (which is scary AF), that's often what makes them think gun owners are all a bunch of unhinged nuts, and makes them lean more anti-gun. It's a "wedge" issue, used to divide us. There are rabid anti-gun nut jobs. No doubt. But they're a minority. The NRA wants you to think that around every corner is a murderer, rapist, or person wanting to take away your guns. And that they're all equally as dangerous.

    IMO.

I'd say of the people I'm friends with, probably half own guns, half don't. None of them care about the other's choice. All of them think the rhetoric around gun ownership is completely bonkers, especially what comes from the NRA. Extremist group.

It's also still very unclear as to our founders intent with the 2A. It was only a recent decision that decided it meant your typical Joe and Jane.

Some take “shall not be infringed” a lot more seriously than others. I don’t do it, but comments like these make me think—respectfully—why do I care what you think I need? We are grown men. Lol. Lmao even.
Like it or not, 2A was not written for people to defend their home from burglars. It is a bulwark against tyranny. If small arms and guerrilla warfare do not work against a govt with bombers and fighter jets, how do you explain Vietnam and Afghanistan?:notsure:

The idea that “gun culture” is responsible for the tragedies we see in our country is laughable to me. I guarantee you the people shooting each other every weekend in America’s cities, shooting schools, etc…are almost never NRA members. They are almost never concealed carry permit holders. They are almost always people who suffer mental illness, should never have had access to a weapon, should have been denied on the basis of a background check or dishonorable discharge, etc.

When my dad was in high school, everyone brought their rifles. They had firearms classes. No issues.

It’s not “gun culture”. It’s mental illness and gang culture.

MT-Tundra said. "I can understand defending our homes. But our arsenal will not save us from a tyrannical government (with stealth bombers, fighter jets etc at its disposal), that's a fantasy"

I grew up in Eastern Europe, hard core communism. I almost lost my life jumping the fence and let me make this simple for you and I apologize for being blunt.

The most fundamental ingredient for a free and TRUE democracy is the freedom of speech, so you have the 1st amendment. That is the reason for being #1, right?
What is #2? the right of Americans to keep and bear arms for the protection of themselves, their rights, and their property, and most importantly to protect your #1.

The American constitution is a beautiful thing and USA is a beautiful country with great people, not perfect, but still the best place in the world. The Bible and the American constitution are the best 2 things in the world. Call me crazy but is as simple as that.

So yes, you become a "tyrannical government" taking away my constitutional rights, you bet your arse that I will wave my gun, use it if I have to, and protect your arse for the things you can't comprehend or do :)
Take away my #1 and my #2? Over my dead cold body, I tell you that.

Apology if I insulted you or anybody else but I LOVE this country which is home for me. BEST place in the world, period.

Yes, and when taken out of the context of its time, it's hard to say how we should see it. But we're walking in to an old debate that hasn't been settled by people with law degrees, so I won't argue it with you. I don't know what was in the founders minds, or what they would think of our current situation.

It's a valid point. Do you have RPGs etc in your arsenal? Anyone I have my views on this, and they obviously don't line up with yours.

I'm a fighter when it becomes clear there's no other choice. But mostly the thought of neighbors and families and friends having to pick sides and fight in the streets just makes me sad.

Well one thing's for sure, the majority of US citizens do not know what it's like to live under a true tyrannical government. I got no argument for someone who does.

I have my views and I feel they're more balanced and reasonable than some (but don't we all?), given my life experience. I'm not trolling here and it's clear my opinion's going to be in the minority in this thread.

The fact that a supporter of gun ownership is "lame" (and I'm sure that's the nicest insult I'm going to see here) is exactly my point.

The "lame" is probably directed at me. My apology. Also my apology for being aggressively blunt. These are the communism scars that I can't remove or finesse :( But at the end of the day you get it and I respect that. We all have the "freedom" to an opinion, called freedom of speech, and is not a troll, is your right. Question is, can and will you defend it with #2?

That is a good question. One I don't have a knee-jerk answer for. The fact that I haven't had to consider it, yet, says a lot about this country and how lucky we are.

An invasion? I'm on it. Being in agreement as to when our own government, run by our fellow citizens, friends and neighbors has become tyrannical and needs violent overthrow? I'm less confident.

Anyway I'll leave you all to it.

    As you were.

This guy gets it. I wish more Americans did.

ETA: I disagree with the first paragraph in spirit… in addition to your point that the Second Amendment backs up the First Amendment, it should serve an important reminder to elected representatives that their power is vested with their constituents.

Shall we walk through this scenario? Think Venezuela, Cuba, and every Eastern European country. The guns were gone, and the government simply shit on its people and their rights. USA? Different story. I guarantee you, try to take my guns away and it will be an "over my dead body" revolution. Ain't gonna happen here and this is not Canada. I will be the first one in line to defend my #1 and my #2 and with my life if I have to.

    I see that now.

in that case, sir, thank you for sharing your experience of living under communism. Far too many Americans take our freedoms for granted without realizing how easily they can be lost.

What a true success story. Keep your scars and be motivated by them. A good portion of Americans have no idea what it's like to live or be in country of true terror.

And no citizens who live under truly tyrannical regimes are armed.

Seems like there’s some kind of correlation there…
