Remote start

I thought that Toyota corrected the issue in 2024 . When I have my truck started in remote, I open the door and the truck shuts off , is there and override for this ? Or do we live with it ?

They updated it for the 2024 tacomas with TSS 3.0, even the 2025 tundras still have TSS 2.5 and haven't been updated. Just gotta live with it.

In the minority, as don't feel it's a big deal ...now, if I had to turn a key and risk a wrist injury, that's a whole different jar of pickles.

 

So not fixed for 2025… disappointing.

 

How do you do remote start? I tried to do it the other day with the key but probably didn’t do it right. Clicked three times and nothing happened.

 

It’s not just pressing the button 3 times, you have to see the lights flash each time, keeping it pressed on the third, or it won’t work, and it needs to be fairly quickly between clicks, also holding it the third time until the lights start flashing. It’s finicky but does work.

 

I need to correct myself here, I tried it just three times quickly holding it on the third and it worked fine, so you don’t need to see the lights flash each time you press the button, my bad.

 

The remote start with fob is very fussy. Three quick clicks evenly spaced apart and hold on the last click.
Best to look at truck from a window and verify that lights flash repeatedly when it actually starts.
My wife’s Avalon’s remote start is even fussier than my Tundra.
She rarely gets the proper cadence right to start her car and I end up doing it.
Toyota: it doesn’t need to be that hard!

Now that I think about it, the difficulty and sucky range is most likely deliberate so you end up paying $15+tax a month to start via the app.

 

And the range is less than FOB usage from my experience. I believe max range is 17' 7.38654276543"


Quite irritating to say. I just gave up on the thought of using it.

Mine works consistently from about 70' window. Not from 82' window though.

 

every Toyota I’ve owned with factory remote is like this. Has nothing to do with subscription or app. Toyota fobs and sensor on car just suck. I can be over 500 feet from my BMW X6 and remote start. Just another piss poor design form Toyota. Just like when you touch the door handle the POS shuts down the engine and you have to restart

 

Another annoying aspect with the fob: if my cell phone is in the same pocket as the fob, keyless entry will not work. As soon as I raise the phone half way out of my pocket, it’ll work.
I thought maybe the battery was weak, so I put in a new one and no difference.

 

I just purchased the 2024 Tundra Platnium and my remote start using the app works ok, but the engine does shut off when entering the vehicle or even when unlocking it with the fob. Stupidest thing I’ve seen for a vehicle. Toyota better fix that, or fire some engineers

 

I think they keep the transmission power turned way down for safety. If it is too strong and transmits too far it is ripe for someone clipping codes in car parking lots. They can record the signal and then dupe it to get into your vehicle. The shorter the range, the less chance of someone clipping the code. The cell signal remote start is a lot safer but it costs some duckies to use.

 

I will take that as a possibility. Especially in today’s world.

Yeah, that does suck. My wife's Lexus on the other hand, does NOT shut down when you open the door. So, Toyota could do this for us, but for some reason choose not to.

 

Easy programming solution for Toyota. Shut off the engine only when brake pedal is stepped on! Can’t be stolen especially when it can’t be put into gear before stepping on the brake. JMO

 

Exactly. No reinventing anything here. It’s how all others do it. Toyota just wants to lock down the Tundra for a weird unknown reason.

I don’t get why Toyota made this sub-par in the Tundra. My LC fob range and operability is leaps and bounds better than the ‘22 Tundra I had. Also doesn’t shut off once you open the door. Just depress the brake and press the stop/start button and away you go. U also can adjust HVAC settings with the app (as well as other arbitrary functions such as honking the horn).
