Do Leaf springs have a front and back?

Replacing a leaf spring with doorman leaf spring assembly. Is there a front and a back? The best I can tell they are the same length from center pin to bushing.

Yes. Our trucks have a trapezoidal design so they go in a certain way. Are the bushing ends identical to each other? They are normally different but these look like a lower cost spring setup.

Well i think i got bigger problems i dont think this doorman fits the oem shackle unless im going crazy. Im kinda pissed i need the truck for work tomorow. Do i need the doorman shackle? Anyone done this before?

Im still confused after reading through that thread. Which way goes forwards?

"The double wrap must always be at the fixed hanger, the forward end in the case of our Tundras."
-- problem is on this door man one both the wraps wrap all 3 leafs at the front and back.

 

Match to what's on truck? The ends are different. One has a full wrap and one Is a half in your pic

 

Sorry I guess i am not understanding which end has the full wrap and which one has the half? I'm a noob.

 

The ends at the top of this picture go to the front.

Any idea on why the shackle wont fit through the bushing? Do I need a different bushing/shackle?

 

In your video, you're trying to fit the shackle into the end of the spring that goes to the fixed mount at the front of the vehicle. The shackle goes in the other end of the spring pack. The "wrap" refers to the leaf wrapping around the bushing, not the leaf retainers which are there to prevent the leafs from fanning out.

What should I do. Try to change the bushing? I had the worst time trying to order this stupid thing online. Took 2 months.

Im unsure if a new busing or the door man shackle would even work.

The "F" on that second leaf pack you tried indicates "front". Also look at the original spring that the shackle came out of, it looks like the original metal bushing sleeve from the original spring may still be on the lower shackle bolt. I wasn't able to catch a glimpse of the original pack in the video.

 

I wrote the F after you told me.

Should both the shackle bolts be the same diameter? One is thicker. I had a devil of a time getting the old busing off. You may be correct part of the old busing still on there!!

It looks like they are the same diameter. Look at the old pack rear eyelet, is there still a metal sleeve in there like there are on the new packs?

 

Nope no metal sleeve. You solved the mystery!

I cut the old leaf assembly off with an angle grinder it was stuck so bad.

Any ideas to get it off? All i can think to do is heat.

 

Soak it in something while you work on the other side if you're set up to do so. After that you might be able to utilize a bench vice/vice grips/channel locks to work it loose, but you don't want to mar it up too bad so that you couldn't polish it smooth again. Then yes, heat.

Anti-seize these nuts big time. Even thru the bushing if not greasable.

 

I bought new shackles when i did this, as i have been down that road before. I am in the rust belt. If they are badly seized, i have never been successful with heat. Oxy acetylene would work but I don’t have that. Carefully go at them with a cutoff wheel or die grinder to create a slit then chisel them off. The slit only needs to be about 75%. After that you will get it freee. Just need to be careful not to grind into the bolt itself

 

ooo yeah I can see how a new ones would be nice. I am still battling the stupid thing. Tried two propane torches at once couldn't get it hot enough. I will try what you said good idea

 

Is this fairly accurate for 2009? 74foot pounds on the ubolts/shackles seems low to me?

 

74 ft-lbs is correct.

 

Where are you? If too corroded see if you can get a set at wreckers? Or ask here in marketplace? I’m in BC and have an old set but shipping isn’t worth it anymore. Too bloody expensive.
