After jumpstart engine won’t turn off

I left the dome light on for a few days and had to jumpstart from my wife’s car. It took a while for it to finally start. I let it idle for 15 minute and when I went to shut it off, it won’t turn off. The radio and heater fan turn off but the dash lights remain on as well as the engine. If I very gently turn the key like I’m starting the engine as soon as the starter engages the engine turns off, the dash lights stay on though. I took the positive cable off the battery to get it to turn off. Any ideas what I could have done to it when I was trying to jump start it?

 

Update:
I just reattached the battery and all the dash lights came on, when I turned the truck over the starter cranked for a good 5 seconds, with me not keeping it to the start position. Engine did not start. I disconnected the battery again.

 

So I took truck to the local Toyota dealership. They put a new battery in and said that they think the computer "reset itself". They said there was nothing wrong with the truck....fast forward to now. Now the truck is doing the same thing, not turning off with the key out. Also, it started cranking the starter when I was in the house (no key in the ignition). Cranked the starter for a good 30 seconds before I could go out and attempt to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. It was wet out when this started happening again, lots of rain. Perhaps a short somewhere? One thing to note, a couple months ago my windshield was leaking, I did get it replaced nd has not leaked since. The leak was on the top of the windshield, middle and towards driver side. It was dripping on seat. If water were to run from the top corner on the driver side in the cab and flow down the A pillar, is there anything there that would be damaged from a water leak?

 

There is a fuse block underneath the driver footwell, lay on your back toward the pedals and look up. Possibly water traveled that way.

Check any fuses to do with ignition or similar, use needle nose or a fuse puller. Take em out one at a time, inspect visually and ohm/ring them out with a meter.

 

I was just looking at another thread on this same issue - the OP had some water intrusion from a leaking sunroof with blocked drains. Toyota wanted 17k to replace all of the wiring in the entire truck. A local shop found the issue and fixed it for $600.

 

Took that plastic piece off to get a look at the fuse box and the floor is a little damp and there was a bit of water in that trough, where I am pointing in the pic. The windshield might be letting water in and it’s running down the wall where this wiring is. Is there another way for water to get in that I should look at?

 

The windshield sounds probable. The door seals, grommets under the dash (by the brake booster), or even some silver dollar size rubber seals on the bottom of the rocker if you drive through enough rain. While it's a pain to do, you could have somebody run water around the windshield while you poke around under the dash and footwell and look for water intrusion.

Alternately, that could also be from a wet floor mats if you track a lot of snow in with your boots and are still using carpet floor mats. But I'd look for water coming in to the cab.
