It is definitely true, but why would it be that low, Noah? Are there signs of the engine losing that much oil somewhere? If so, that is where I would focus my attention.

 

I never thought to see about that, since they're my father's and he didn't seem concerned. I get more use out of his tools these days than he does. He still uses em, they just skip sometimes haha.

 

Plus we all know how accurate our Toyota oil pressure gauges can be

 

I lost an oil pump/distributor in a 300 I6 no real warning for that kinda situation.
I miss that truck, it’s still in the family but I don’t need another project!

 

Idk, man, you guys must be some unlucky mofo's because I have never, ever, in my life, had a motor leaking so much oil that the pressure differences were that high and I couldn't see why from elsewhere. What am I missing? I'd love to help you, Noah. I think you know that.

DO NOT rely on that gauge for reality.

 

You never drove an old 70s GM vehicle with over 100k miles? Burning oil is the norm. It’s just a matter of how much and keeping track of it.

 

My 03 used to leak about a quart to a quart and a half between oil changes. Changing the valve cover gaskets seems to have solved that. I don't see any oil on the ground under it anymore and I usually check it about 1k before it's due now. So far so good.

 

If anyone wants to truly know their oil-pressure on a consistent basis, regardless of manufacturer, the best thing to do is as FesterW pointed out. Purchase a real gauge. I honestly don't know what the misunderstanding is. If a motor was getting ready to frag, the factory gauge isn't going to let one know any sooner than a "seat of the pants" and audible notification is.

 

And that's my point. There will be other signs and symptoms if one is willing to look closely. The gauge in the dash is just an idiot light, so to speak.

 

Well it could’ve helped me with my old 81 Buick Regal. When I first moved to TX, the company that transported my car drained the oil where only 1/2 quart was left in the pan. I drove around like that for two months before the bearing on the crankshaft let go, so it could’ve certainly helped me.

 

OK, but I'm referring to typical conditions where the owner is monitoring things as necessary. That's an anomaly.

 

Why do you believe they did that? That's odd.

 

I later found out through the moving company that was what they typically did if it was leaking oil where they stored it for a month. Apparently, I missed it in the fine print.

Had I taken delivery of the car rather than taken advantage of the free rental/housing for the month from my new employer, I wouldn’t have run into that issue.

Anybody on here running a Valentine One radar detector with the remote display? If so, I’d love to see where and how you mounted the remote display and routed the wires. My dad is looking to do this with his 03 AC. TIA!

 

Sadly, spoon fed it is. It's the one thing internet algorithms have trained us on: Instant gratification.

At any given time, you can pull out your pocket computer, aka smartphone, and ask any question into the GOOGLE, and get an answer. It may not always be the correct answer, but it's an instant answer, and at least 50/50 chance or better it's correct.

When Google won't find it, or it's too much to sort thru, "go to an enthusiast forum, they'll know", because then you can fire off the question, come back later and TADA! they answered it.

Combine this with how we've also been taught to decrease our attention span to 5-10 seconds thanks to video content we're fed, and you have the sad, shitty state the world is in right now. Slave to the screen, no attention span to do any long-term meaningful things, and zero ability to think independently.

This is the hell we've created for ourselves and, sadly, I help contribute to by trying to help people answer questions, as I slave, on my screen.

I've tried, with varying results to not do it. But I do answer any questions asked, and give pertinent information... and I'm grateful

 

The search function on this site is not great. It doesn't do a good job of sorting by relevance, seems to have a simple algorithm to just key term search. Even does that rather poorly as it will feature the same non helpful thread as the first 25 search results. I prefer to go to a search engine like Google and type my requested terms in followed by "Tundras.com". It will do a much better search by relevance and start with all of the hits on Tundras.com website first. I've had great luck with that technique.

 

my theory is they're trying to rack up post count to get into the BST.

I think the search function on this site is "meh" (I think I've mentioned this before)

but I find it easier to google "tundras 06 __issue__"

it'll just bring up the forum with a bunch of threads and I'll weed through them on separate tabs.

makes research more streamlined.

 

I have great success with the search feature here. It's a lot better than any other online forum I've visited. @shifty` has explained tips in the past which work well. The key is using the right words in your search.
