That was pretty much what I thought when they offered it to me. I didn't hate it but I definitely won't be buying another one.

    These, however, are AMAZING.

Definitely a point on humor alone. Thankfully I have very few regulars who just sit and get blotto. I don't think I could still work in the business if I had to serve drunks all day.

I figured it'd be on par with saying the sommelier's customers were hammered. Different clientele than a typical bar attracts.

    Glad the humor caught. :D

before I worked here I was the somm/beverage director at a place in vail. Learning how to sell bourbon has been a good learning experience for me. My highest priced pour is $250 for 1.5oz. Nobody is slamming shots that's for sure.

We went to a fancy restaurant for my wife's work Christmas party last year. The bartender looked like he was about 12 and was apparently unfamiliar with the term "neat" because I ended up with more ice than bourbon in my glass.

Yeah... we had breakfast there a few times while visiting; yeah it was an easy walk-in place

There is also one in Vegas at the Venetian iirc, and breakfast / brunch was always awesome....

Getting into the French Laundry definitely is a PITA. So, when you buy the 'experiences', it's a 'gift card' from Finese, and it clearly states 'purchase of this card does not guarentee a reservation'... :annoyed:

Took us about a year and a couple of phone calls to get a reservation lined up, which was difficult since we didn't live in the area and getting time off at the same time (the wife and I) wasn't always easy or doable in our previous lives...

But, I will say that after all was said and done, and I finally spoke to someone on the phone and basically gave them the run down of what I was doing for my wife, she was a bit more accommodating and helped make it happen...

The other thing I"ll say is that dropping the coin for the card was a little painful (at nearly $2k for the two of us), but once we were there, I'm so glad I did that... For the tables near us that paid for the pre-fix or had the silver card, there were several upgrades throughout the meal for them as options, and their $400pp pre-fix price climbed quickly with a couple of upgrades and a few wine pairings. We watched as a couple of tables received their final check and could see a couple of folks in sticker shock at what the bottom line was

At first I felt weird handing them our Gold Experience gift card, but we started w/champagne in our hands and were placed in a nice little waiting area while we waited a couple of minutes for our table. Once we were seated, we were reminded that the 'experience' was all-inclusive; full tasting menu w/no-upgrades, wine pairing throughout the meal and gratuity included... in fact we were told a couple of times that 'everything' is included and already covered, so just enjoy the experience. It really made spending the extra money well worth it!!!

Oh, BTW the macaroons from Bouchon are absolutely

For anyone in the area, or visiting.... Ad Hoc is another little 'limited hour' fried chicken shack that is part of the group, and it's OH HELL YEAH!!!!!

I live about 35 minutes away from the French Laundry. I have lived in the wine country off an on for about 35ish years having grown up here.

I would have enjoyed going to the French Laundry in my late 20’s or early 30’s as something to experience.

At 43 the mere thought of having to put on pants and a dress shirt to go out and eat is not something I have any interest in.

As I get older, I seemingly can’t bring myself to give 2 shits about fancy restaurants and feel myself devolving into a caveman. 15-20 years ago I relished the thought of trying new high end places to eat.

My personal tastes have also changed. I’m generally more of a carnivore and prefer simpler meals these days. So I’m in the same boat as AZBlue on this one, minus the stopping off at fast food on the way home.

Truck said it's 18° F this morning. Bitter cold in the air because we just had freezing rain the last couple of days, so the humidity is higher.

I lived just north of the valley in Kelseyville / Lakeport area for almost 5 years for work. I love good food but can usually make an equally appetizing dish at home for Pennies compared to some fancy place. It’s nice occasionally to take the wife out to somewhere nice and just enjoy each other with no cooking or cleaning though.

Oh don't get me wrong, The French Laundry is considered one of the best restaurants on the planet. I know many folks who have dined there and sing its praises, so it's reputation is well deserved. I just find myself seeking more casual places to eat when I feel a desire to go somewhere.

Just as you mentioned, a nice prime cut of steak pan seared and finished in the oven to the perfect doneness and butter basted with garlic and thyme before serving can be something I can do at home and enjoy.

I guess I'm in the minority in that I don't mind paying taxes. I'm happy to do so. I just want more transparency on exactly what it's being spent on so I can use the proper channels to remove the abusers and wasters.

I guess I have to clarify, I am ok with the concept of taxes. It's currently a mess and needs an overhaul.

There will still be plenty of money going around for the teat suckers if we all try to pay as little as legally possible.
