I'm running the 1/4" shim from 1stgenoffoad and it leveled the truck perfectly. Can't comment on the Taco shim, though.

Are shims different than spacers? I thought front spacers were a little frowned upon around here as a lift. How are these different?

So much I still don't know...

I’ve seen lots of shitty camper shell wiring jobs. SAE panel mount socket and cord with right angle connector is probably the cleanest I’ve seen. These are used a lot with solar panel and marine setups. I see lots of choices by googling these terms. Please post some picks of your install.

A shim is not the same as a spacer. A shim is specifically applied to get rid of the notorious lean, not to actually lift the truck (although it kinda does). Spacers are typically applied to lift, which isn't the best way to lift.

Put another way, one could install a lift, but unless the known differences are applied left-to-right, the "lean" will still exist. A shim simply levels the known lean from left-to-right. A shim is not typically looked at as a lift, per se.

I can’t remember if I shimmed the front of our 4R or just went on a different clip with the Billies, but after driving behind it i definitely put a shim on the rear driver side. I’m sure most people wouldn’t notice or think twice, but I’m not most people

Right on. If you know, you know :D

Just FYI, I am specifically referring to all settings being in the same position, left-to-right. I know you know, but for the uninitiated, it's important to understand.

Spacers are often frowned upon, but these shims, while technically a spacer, are very small. They're intended to correct the side to side lean. But I suppose they could be used to achieve a front level/lift.

Cheaper from wheelers. I posted the 3/8" options, because that was what you mentioned. But they also have these 1/2" options for less.

Billet Plastic However I can't speak upon shipping from either. Probably cheaper for you to support a TX business than OR, once shipping is applied.

Edit: these appear to be 1/2" thick, not 1/2" lift. Disregard. I guess the 3/8" thick ones would get you closer to 3/4" lift. Probably too much. Carry on.

Here's a plastic 1/4" but I think you're better off going metal vs saving a few bucks.

So this weekend my dr. Side rear axle minor leak decided to turn major. Tore it apart and found this. IMG_5257.jpg retainer broke. What. In the. Fuck.

then proceeded to strip the axel bolt IMG_5255.jpgno idea how cause the nut threaded on fine. Then proceeded to eat the bolt when torquing it down to seat the sedations. Fuck me. Ok. New bolt in and it's been 2 days of driving and it's dry. For now. Lol

My ocd is taking over. I replaced LBJ’s about 6 mos ago and now have new coilovers coming in. I’m thinking the easiest way to swap them out is removing the lbj bolts to separate knuckle. Now, do I replace all these new bolts or is the consensus that they are not tty and fine to be removed and reinstalled?

I would replace them. They aren't the type of bolts I'd feel comfortable reusing.

Alrighty. 6112s, jba UCAs, oem LBJs, suspension maxx sway bar links are all installed! We didn’t get to the rear. Holy crap, I haven’t been this beat in a while. Still the old tires and wheels. I’m working on that next, then I’ll do the rears sometime in the next few weeks. I’ll post pics and measurements when it’s all done, but sort of in progress at the moment. No giant snafus. Just bolted everything up with the brake lines on the wrong side of the spindle once and had to peel it all apart and put it back together again correctly. But I drove it away and it feels great, so that’s a win!

I did discover an oil leak, that I thought was maybe happening but had sort of diverted my eyes. Til I saw it plain and clear. I’ll have to deal with this at some point… my buddy said it looked like valve cover gaskets maybe?

    Reuse.
I removed and reused mine at least four times that I can remember, in the last 6 years, and beat on it off road. Since you said they're newish, definitely reuse. Unless you just want to spend your money. I'd say just use some thread lock. I didn't even do that the first four times haha.
I just put new ones in when me and Casey installed my gussetted spindles a few months back. Next month I plan to reuse them when I swap in new LCAs and LBJs, unless the TC uniballs came with their own bolts. I don't recall.

Sure, they can be re-used, but should they be? I believe no. But, they could be.

In my case, I probably got lucky, being as I have no idea how many miles are on these current LBJs. I don't recommend anyone take unnecessary risks.
Being as he just replaced em, I just can't suggest replacing em again.

I am curious what the actual LBJ to LBJ bolt failure ratio is now.
I have always been under the impression that both occur, but the joint itself was the more common of the two.
    I'm ignorant.

I can understand and appreciate having to re-use the bolts under certain circumstances, but they are a use-once (stretchable) part. So, after that, any failure is an assumed-risk. On this particular application, I would rather eat a few bucks, but that's just me. A person could easily go without them, too. Who knows? Again, assumed risk.

Edit: we all have our quirks. This would be one of mine.

    Yeah I'm that cheap. :D
I also been known to reuse u-bolts a few times before replacing.

Great debate though. Always fun to see what the hot button issues are on these old yoters. Sometimes it's more fun when I know I'm backing the losing horse.
