Can somebody explain this diagram?

Can somebody explain how I would wire this to an aftermarket amp? I'm confused because there are somehow 2 outputs on the right adapter but 2 on the left adapter, and I'm not sure what wires to what. Thanks!

What amp are you using? Depending on the amp, you may need to grab some speaker wire to RCA adapters, or if your amp has an input harness you can wire directly to the harness. Essentially you just need to match up the inputs on the 12 and 10 pin plugs/harnesses to the inputs of your amp, and do the same for the outputs. I have more of these diagrams, but here's one illustrating how you'd use speaker wire to RCA adapters to connect everything:

 

I’m not sure where the confusion lies. Inputs vs outputs…. 4 channels, positive and negative for each channel. Input and output put for each channel.

Assuming you are running RCAs to a new amp, you’re looking to find the outputs to send the signal from your new amp to the speakers using the existing speaker wire.

 

To add to this/I forgot to mention/ask, it will depend if you're using the stock head unit or an aftermarket one, running new RCA's or using factory wiring for input to your new amp, and whether or not your amp accepts high level inputs. @investuur if you can provide some more info we can steer you in the right direction as there are a few variables/ways to go about it depending on your set up.

 

Hey so I'm installing an NVX 5 channel amp, it takes speaker level input so I am using RCA to speaker wire. However, I'm a bit confused as to which wires plug into what, since its only calls the inputs and outputs channels 1->4. I am using the stock HU, I only plan on replacing the amp to power new door speakers, I'm not touching the dash speaker for now.

 

All your input wires correspond to the input side up top - the output wires to the output harness at the bottom or your diagram.

look for a high level to high level harness in the amp box - what you show is a RCA to high level harness.

 

Input is to the amp.
Output is to the speakers.

Front right has 2 wires
Front left has 2 wires
Rear right has 2 wires
Rear left has 2 wire


You'have 2 extra RCAs since you don't have a sub input from the HU.

 

He will need RCA to high level adapters to work with his amp.
Doesn't look like his wiring harness has any other option.

So the manual for this amp is less than ideal lol. As an example in the manual it says to strip your speaker output wires and insert them into the block terminal and tighten them down...which you can't do because the speaker outputs and inputs are both harnesses. Anyways, @investuur I'll go over the input side first and output side second. Like @AZBoatHauler said it's just a matter of matching up where the inputs are on your 12 pin harness to the corresponding spots on your amp. Channel 1 on your amp is Front Left or "FL" on your 12 pin. Channel 2 is Front Right or "FR". Channel 3 is Rear Left or "RL". Channel 4 is Rear Right or "RR".

It doesn't say this in the manual, but you could do one of two things, either get some speaker wire to RCA adapters (pictured in @1lowlife's post) or cut off the female RCA ends on your amp harness. I'd probably just go the adapter route because it's cheap/easy. You can get the bare wire kind above, or the plug only with set screws like these

I would do the speaker wire RCA kind like @1lowlife posted since you'll need to do butt splices for your outputs anyways, more on that later.


In either case, or if you cut the harness, grab the 12 pin harness you bought and start matching up your wires. Start with pin 1 on the harness which is your Front Left +, using a butt splice and heat shrink take the wire coming out of pin one and crimp it to the positive wire of on of your speaker wire rca adapters, or insert it into the positive slot on one of the plugs above and tighten it down. Next, grab the wire coming out of pin 6, and connect it to the negative wire or terminal. Channel 1 is now done. Repeat this process for channels 2, 3, and 4.


If you do the speaker wire rca adapter, it will look something like this minus heat shrink over the butt splice, and ignore the "wire" colors and plug color:


Once you do all 4 channels, your inputs will be done and you'll have your 12 pin plug with 4 male RCA ends coming off of it. It's then just a matter of plugging those male RCA's into the corresponding female RCA's on your amps harness. It's hard to tell on the pictures, but normally for RCA's it's easy to remember left and right by Red - Right as they both start with R. Take your wires/male rca coming off pins 1/6 and plug that into Channel 1 of your amp input (left most white female RCA). Do the same for the wires/rca coming off pins 2/7 for Channel 2 input. Repeat for channels 3 and 4 and your input side is done.

The output side is a little trickier. Rather than terminals with set screws, your amp has a harness for output. Turning the amp around, plug in the amps output harness. With the harness plugged in, work from left to right. You'll start with the Front Right outputs. Grab your output Front Right + wire on the amp harness, and then grab your FR+ output wire on your 10 pin harness (pin 1). Slide heat shrink over one of the wires, crimp both of the wires into your butt splice and heat shrink it. Next, grab the output Front Right - wire on the amp harness, and then grab the Front Right - wire on the 12 pin harness, slide heat shrink over, butt splice them together, and heat shrink it. Repeat this process carefully one wire at a time. When you're done, you will have wires coming from both the 12 and 10 pin harnesses that go to the output harness of your amp. You will have 4 wires going from the 10 pin harness to amp output harness. You will also have 4 wires going from the 12 pin harness to your amp output harness. You will have 8 wires that condense into 4 RCA plugs (positive and negative wire for each RCA plug, 4 plugs 2 wires each) going from your 12 pin harness to your amps RCA inputs. In the end it will look something like this, ignore where the lines go, colors, lack of RCA plugs etc. this is just to illustrate:


You'll also need to run your power wire, get a good ground under the seat, and connect the remote wire coming off the 12 pin harness to the remote in on your amp.

Highly recommend getting the underseat amp rack from Sounds Good Stereo to mount your new amp to. Disconnect your battery and pull the passenger seat to install the new amp rack and amp, it takes all of 5 minutes to do and will make your life a lot easier. I don't see it mentioned in the manual, but there's a input selection switch for 4 or 5 channel, set it to 4 channel. I'm guessing that like a lot of amps, this one has the ability to have only 4 inputs and then copy/sum those input signals to use for the sub output signal if you wanted to add a sub down the line.
