Got a problem and need advice. Own a 2021 TRD PRO and have a broken front right FOX suspension. This part is backordered and not currently being manufactured by Toyota. Dealers do not know when they will be available. This truck is driven on the highway and never off road. Very disappointed in Toyota as this shouldn't happen and there is no option. Anyone have a set or have any meaningful advice? I'm in Boston if that helps

As you likely know, this is a single gas charged unit. The red spring is broken in two spots. Needs be replaced, likely two (both sides) and they are not being manufactured by Toyota. Nothing like an expensive truck that you cant drive.

Sweet mercy, that's crap. Have you tried to contact Fox? I have not heard of this happening before, so maybe a mfg defect that Fox can help with.

I'm not sure if that spring is anything special, but good chance it can get replaced with most off the shelf offroad coilover springs. I'd be surprised if there's anything special about it besides the color.

The TRD Fox coilovers are different for driver’s side and passenger side, most likely to compensate for the extra driver’s side weight of the battery, steering column, fuel tank, and driver.

That said, I bet Fox would have an idea of what you need. Even if they don’t have a L/R set of springs to sell you, maybe they would just suggest a set of springs with with similar performance (and possibly a small spacer for the driver’s side).

    Just that L/R are different.

A spring is a spring. You just need to get the specs. Overall length, inner diameter, outer diameter, and spring force rating. With that you can buy a red aftermarket replacement spring. I think Eibach is normally red. Toyota doesn't make springs. They buy from a supplier who probably makes them from many manufactures including aftermarket.

I would always suggest ordering a pair. Call a suspension vendor and explain your situation. Shouldn't be too difficult to get a pair of springs for a TRD Pro.

Pretty shitty that Toyota is just throwing their hands up. I suggest you go beyond the dealer and reach out to North America Toyota support. They should make it right. Unless you happen to have a great dealer service center who actually cares about customer satisfaction, you almost always have to go over their heads.

That said, it's shame the direction that Toyota seems to be heading.

FOX has referred me to Eibach for a potential alternative springs - Naturally they are closed until Jan 2. Spent 50 minutes on the phone with my Toyota Advocate which was a complete waste of time.

@memario1214 may know and/or have the coilovers you need. He can also powdercoat if you want to match the red.

I'm curious how they broke. Was there corrosion defect in the areas it broke? This is a pretty rare situation for a road driven vehicle

Agree with above, call @memario1214. Not sure where you’re located but most shops should be able to swap out springs.

I was under the impression that the springs were the same but the shock body had a second perch to account for the weight? I seem to recall them being in the 650 lb/in range as opposed to stock 700 lb/in.

Having never handled them in person, I may be wrong but that’s what I seem to remember.

Isn't Eibach used for most coilovers..Fox, Toytec, Bilstein, etc?

The Bilstein Pros utilized the same spring and set the drivers side spring on the higher perch. Haven’t handled the Fox Pros in hand personally to confirm.
Yes. Just about everyone gets their springs from Eibach.

OP. Stop freaking out. You need a spring broker. And that person, as mentioned above, is Colton at Hotshot Offroad in Missoula. Call him. 406-936-0206.

I purchased the Eibach springs from Colton. Have actually purchased several things from him. Great guy. He called me when I was having troubles with some install of parts I purchased. Anyway, the eibach are great. You can get 2 inch of lift with them. Couple that with some +3 shackles from coach builder and you have a nice level. I tossed my trd springs in my buddy scrap pile. I can see if he still has them. Been a year so who knows. Personally, take the time now to rebuild the struts and then do the level. You won’t touch it again.

I am sure we've done it, but I don't recall replacing a TRD Pro Fox spring recently. As others have mentioned, the spring is absolutely produced by Eibach, and if you get me the part number off of the spring itself I can source it pretty easily. How many miles are on your truck? I know it's not convenient to be out of commission, but depending on mileage you might be due for a shock rebuild.
Here's the most likely options -
    • Just get the spring sourced so you can get back on the road.
    • Evaluate the shock health and potentially rebuild as well as replace the spring.
    • Replace them altogether with a coilover assembly to get you moving. Still source a spring, and the OEM takeoffs could be sold to recoup some cost.

I have a strong suspicion that you're correct. I would be shocked if the springs were different side-side.

Yep, they are the same springs. My bad. Here's a pic from when I installed mine. Same part numbers on the shocks:

Maybe this p/n helps the OP?

I thought the shock bodies had like 2 clip setting similar to Bilstein and the drivers was up a notch. Or the spring perch is slightly taller, not positive. See if Westcott Designs has any laying around if Colton doesn’t get you squared away with new springs.

Feels like there’s more to this story we’re not being told.

Have a hard time believing Toyota would tell you to pound sand if you’re still under warranty. If you’re not still under warranty, then I don’t understand how it’s really their problem. Does it suck? Yes. But as others have pointed out, replacement springs aren’t difficult to get and get back up and running.

More important would be figuring out exactly what caused a spring to break. How many miles? You never take it off road…what about any previous owners? I’ve also seen some of the potholes around Boston. :D

Are you able to get Toyota OEM PN for just replacement spring? I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota only sells the whole coil over assembly.

I saw the image above showing a PL-039-00-257 part number printed on the spring, but that is not the PN toyota uses for ordering. Can your dealer provide the PN for the spring they claim they can't source?

The problem is that anyone who has take offs, will not just sell you a spring because the wholw coilover is more valuable to sell as a whole kit

I’m still selling mine. Probably not going to find low mileage take offs since the Pros are now at least 4 years old.

Not only does Toyota not only sell just the spring, the entire front FOX suspension system is backordered via Toyota. Too many people ordering PRO parts who dont own PROS (just what I'm told) Eibach, cant / wont sell the spring as its custom to Toyota. Hoping to find someone we has raised their TRD PRO (maybe with the Eibach springs +1.8 inches) and looking to sell the OME.

    Thank you Toyota / Eibach

I really think you are going to have to have custom coils made. Maybe Eibach is willing to share dimensions???

Pretty shitty of them and Toyota, as suppliers to not be able to provide replacement parts.
