Well boys... P0770 was fixed up until yesterday. Was driving over in the city with the girlfriend when it popped back up. Drove about 5 miles and the transmission started making grinding sounds, giving off burnt trans smells, slipping, all not good. Even came to a stop once and the truck did not want to go back into gear. Had it towed to a transmissions shop. They said I needed a new transmission. Then took it over to an indy Toyota shop to get a second opinion. Transmission pan was full of metal chunks. New trans got ordered, taking two weeks and has a 100k mile warranty. Not what I wanted, but it's what happened.

I was thinking when you found all the debris in the pan the first time, this was in your near future. Bummer for sure, but at least you're covered for another 100k. I dare no ask what the quote is. It's better than buying a new car and taking on a car payment I'm sure, but not wallet friendly. Wrong time of the year for it too, wtf kind of gift is this?

Yeah, that's definitely on my mind also, and yes, my middle is stiff, I need to get off my ass and give it its 15-20 year re-lubrication routine on the cables and whatnot.

Definitely not the present I was looking for, but at the same time now I am pretty confident in the longevity of my tundie. Both shops did a full vehicle inspection and said my baby was in perfect condition, only issue was a blown up transmission lol, oh and some dirty brake fluid.

The first shop I brought it to wanted to charge 6k for a new transmission + install costs. However, they were literally just going to put in a used transmission and only give me a 60 day warranty. IIRC the lady said the transmission had like 130k miles on it or something insane. So I said no thanks and brought it over to this Toyota shop, dude is literally called Yoda. Super nice, cool staff too, we chatted about wheeling and our adventures. He quoted me 4k for a rebuilt transmission and another 2k in labor costs. Also added on that 100k mile warranty which made me feel way better than just a 60 day one on a transmission that I have no idea where it came from or whats been done to it. Much prefer to have it rebuilt and pay the same price. Anyway, getting her back the first or second week of January and hoping my baby is ok. Happy I had some emergency money stashed away. My biggest regret now is that I left my favorite trucker hat in the backseat at the shop...

Damn man. Sorry this all popped up on you. Sucky for sure but at least you're able to get it taken care of in a pretty quick timeframe.

Yea most definitely. I was worried it was going to take 2 months or something ridiculous to get it all done. And the more I think about it, the more I feel better about the costs and whatnot. Spent 5k to buy the truck back in 2021 and have really only spent $1500-2k on maintenance(oil changes, new radiator, water pump, timing belt, LBJ) and maybe another 2k in unnecessary goodies like my lift and bumper. So all in all I'm about 15k deep at this point and looking forward to hopefully not having to fix anything major for quite some time. Trucks like mine in my area go for that or a bit higher so I'm relatively content. Oh, and I've learned so much doing all the wrenching and such myself so there's that all too.

It's so easy to get your money's worth back out of a FGT. 150K miles from now you'll forget this ever happened.

I don’t understand why you’d put another slush box back in it. At least make sure the OD planetary is 03+ spec.

    Simplicity.
    Ease of install/operation.
I know you're going to say manuals is simpler and you're not wrong. Just more work involved.

I know, but a clutch pedal makes driving so much more involving & interesting. Especially off the highway. I understand some people have better things to do while they drive… but they shouldn’t.

Close ratio Honda were a lot of fun. They’d keep you busy & 108hp has to work to beat the stoplight schedule. If my trans fails before my 50k timing belt, I’d definitely get the computer that’ll run it like flappy paddles, but I’m hoping the engine fails first, so I can swap in a mercruiser 470 3.7L & ford diesel zf 5 speed.

Stop hoping your truck fails. I need it to live long enough for you to do the swap of the day and for me to blow my engine or trans.

Yup, center is definitely firmer. But I think it’s a lubricity issue. I think I neeed to service the cables. The OEM knobs are equally difficult. The outer two knobs are fine, although that last little click on hot and cold have that weird difficulty. And the left knob (speed selector) does have a little light bleed around the edge. But the knobs feel so much more stout than OEM. And look way more modern.

Well, Donut decided to give me a crank/no start on Tuesday, and Ironman had a completley dead battery. I'm glad I have a work truck. I'll jump Ironman and he'll be fine, but I have no clue for Donut. I'll probably hook up the laptop and act like a monkey with fire.

Same experience this morning. The Camry battery had a bad cell. And the tundra battery died for a second time this morning. I charged both overnight without success.

Santa really had a grudge against me this year. I swear I'll be good this year.

Was quoted $1600 for a rear main seal replacement. I guess it's just gonna have to keep leaking lmao. F-that.

Insulation recommendations for this square? I'm about to patch this spot but the old fiberglass insulation was ruined. It's roughly 30"x30"

If I buy another roll I'm going to end up with a ton I don't need.

Why not but the Owen’s Corning insulation in the $5-$6 roll without the vapor barrier?

Wrong answer: Beer Cans and takeout containers.

Option 2: Just patch the drywall and fugettaboutit. 9 sqft of missing insulation is negligible.

Option 3: Buy a roll and replace the missing section then use the leftover to bulk up any areas that have compressed insulation, gaps etc.

That's exactly the type of recommendation I'm looking for. Can you send a link? I'm not seeing any rolls that cheap.

Aww man, too bad on that beautiful stomped ceiling. Was it a freeze out? Or just some weak point in that copper/damaged? At least it looks like it's a utility room.
I would be inclined to go this route, and just break it up by hand and spread it, but you wouldn't have a vapor barrier like the backing on the fiberglass.

It's my garage which is below our bedrooms. I had a pin hole leak in one of the copper supply lines.

I think I'm going to skip the insulation for now. This garage doesn't get below 50 degrees, even when it got down to 0 last January.
