Hey quick electrical question for you...

The In-laws have a switch off to the side of the kitchen counter that powers a plug under the sink (was for the garbage disposal)... Is there a way to (safely) remove the wall switch and wire in a standard or GFI outlet where the switch is and not use the outlet under the sink???

Yeah, the neutral should be in the switch box just wired together down to the outlet.
Kill the circuit and wire up the outlet like normal where the switch was. White to silver screws and black to gold screws.

 

Christmas is like everything else in life, it's what you make it out to be. It all comes down to you. It can be materialistic, spiritual, a time of family gatherings etc...There will always be outside entities using it as an opportunity to make money off of you just like any other occasion, holiday, month, culturally significant date.

I can look at any month on the calendar, pick any significant date on it and there will be some sort of sale or marketing gimmick trying to entice me to spend money on something. It's up to me to decide if I want that to influence my behavior and how I choose to celebrate a given holiday.

I personally don't like the materialistic aspect that Thanksgiving/Christmas have taken on and I have chosen not to participate in the shopping frenzy that revolves around them. Does that mean I miss out on "great deals", I guess I do. I also don't find myself buying useless crap because it is a "great deal".

As for Christmas presents and whatnot, I have always done the same thing. Money in a Christmas Card/Envelope. People can use it how they see fit and prioritize how they want to use it. I received countless crap growing up that I never used/wore and I had the epiphany that it would have been so much nicer to have just received the cash value instead. I admit it may not be as thoughtful of a gift but I prefer the practicality of it. I do the same thing with birthday presents. Money in a birthday card.

TL : DR If Christmas sucks and seems like a hedonistic abomination, it's because you have let others turn it into one for you. Don't let them.

 

Christmas has morphed into a day where our small immediate family gets together to share time in a pot luck dinner, watch the grand daughter open the presents and play some new kid board games. Get out for a walk, albeit 47 mph gusts yesterday, and enjoy our good health of being able to walk around.

 

that is true wealth.

 

One thing I miss about Christmas from before I had kids was having enough time to play cards or dominos after dinner. Now we have to eat, watch the kids open a couple presents then rush home to try to get them to bed at a somewhat reasonable hour.

I got my wife a Google Pixel 9 Pro for Christmas. It was a "free" upgrade, so it only cost was the case and screen protector, but not the $1000 for the phone. My line is also eligible for an upgrade to the pixel. They were softly pushing it. I like my current phone and declined.

Why would Verizon want to encourage me to get a free $1000 phone?
