Window Switches & Lock Button Illumination on the driver door

This has bugged me for years and thought I’d see if anyone has a work around? When I open the door at night the courtesy and interior lights are on but the door and control panel is dark. Finding the unlock button is challenging sometimes. Once the headlights or running lights are on the door panel controls light up.

I did a search and I can see other people don’t like it either but haven’t seen a work around?
I have a 2022 Limit OR with premium and power packages.

For example my door before sunrise, the light at the bottom is the courtesy light. The camera makes it look brighter than it is, but you can see the control panel is dark.

 

What exactly is the problem?
You can't unlock the doors because it is too dark?
Don't the doors unlock with the key fob before you get in?

One would think hitting that unlock switch would be muscle memory after a bit of ownership..

 

The control panel on the door doesn’t light up with the courtesy lights. When it’s dark finding that unlock button is difficult in the event I need to. It’s not often but seems like a simple thing if the courtesy lights are on the control panel would be illuminated.

 

Well, you could rewire it to come on with the courtesy lights, but then it would be off when the courtesy lights are off..

OR, push the unlock on the key fob twice and it unlocks all the doors.
That would probably be easier..

Hi all, you can program it to unlock all the doors.

 

There is a setting that unlocks all the doors when you grab the outside handle.

 

All great answers, I am aware that hitting the FOB twice unlocks all the doors and of the programming settings for the doors and the handles. My use case is when I am off road with my truck and my keys aren’t on me.

The old man with the 2014 forgets about touching the handle to unlock....

 

Mount a little led in a blank dash button spot on the lower left and grab a 12v wire off of one of the installed buttons. Maybe a blue light to match the footwells if you have those. oh....just read again. Your truck is off. Maybe mount the light above the door pull handle and tap the courtesy light.

 

Check Carista it has a bunch of settings that could help. Have found it a useful tool.

 

Agreed. These should come on with the courtesy and interior lights. It's rather moronic that they don't. No excuse for this Toyota.

 

Just noticing this myself. The illuminated lights for lock/unlock when you enter the truck should be lit up and easy to see.

 

Here’s a very easy and cheap solution maybe… I have a couple handguns with photo-luminescent sights.
A high quality luminescent will hold and transmit light with low, brief exposure… as when you’d open your door and the overhead courtesy lights come on. Hole punch some luminescent tape and stick the punch out on the switch..
